The Penguin

Best season of comic adaptation tv ever

Better than Daredevil, which is impressive

Amazing how it’s better than the Batman movie it’s a spin-off from

Why didn't he get an umbrella gun?

t- will watch it in a few days

too goofy for our comic book movie adaptation
bet your dumbass wanted yellow spandex back in the day too

theyre gonna surf dracula it for the batman 2 or the 2nd season

comic adaptation

In a very very loose sense.

t. person who has never read penguin/mob batman comics

Hardly an adaptation when all the essential qualities of the character are axed in favour of muh realism.

be aspiring screenwriter

write a gangster epic based in new york

no studios pick it up

lightbulb.jpeg

instead of ordinary gangster, it's now the penguin, famous batman villain

instead of new york, it's now gotham city

shill it to studios as a tie in to the successful batman movie

success

What gangster epics involve mental asylums and terrorist Attucks being important to the plot?

it was a mediocre mobster story propped up by batman adjacent branding.

As if the Sopranos didn't introduce muh mental health into gangster stories, so asylums were naturally the next step. Also, the Sopranos edged a terrorist plotline, too, with those Arabs Chrissy sell guns too. So it's really not that out there

wahhhh I hate joker because it’s not muh joker

We really doing this again?

why would you expect Anon Babble, a board dedicated to comic books, to enjoy an "adaptation" of a comic book character that ignores the fundemental elements that make up the character in the first place (E.g. Being a cockney midge, having a whacky umbrella weapon, being a welldressed English gentleman) in order to make him a bland dimeadozen New York mobster? Go back to Anon Babble

The Reeves' Bat-Verse is fucking carrying the DC brand right now
Gunn's Superman will probably be solid, he has proven to be good at delivering capeshit. It's the rest of the DCU that i'm unsure about.

Not him but is he wrong? I haven't watched the show and I just assumed they took the "idea" and names of the characters to make their own story without ever properly adapting anything.
Actually, now that I think about it, they didn't even keep the names, he's Oz Cobb, not Oswald Cobblepot, right?

I really don't get why they couldn't at least include a scene of him killing someone with an umbrella.

It was pretty good. Still prefer Flash S1 and probably Peacemaker.

lol no

He is wrong. It takes a ton from the comics and feels like them too.

Let me guess- you think Penguin is from a rich family, too?

I don't know if I'm willing to dethrone Daredevil just yet, but damn, that was a surprise.

Batman's villains are more interesting than Batman

shocker

Oz is short for Oswald.

They're all shilling this show. They're all Anon Babble losers.

Shut up chud, the snow is bad and IM NOT GONNA WATCH IT

Name 3 and I'll watch the show.

I mean, he is in at least one of his origins.

So which character should the next Matt Reeves Batman series be about? Calendar Man?

I think Hush/Mr Freeze/Court of Owls are being reserved for the films. Joker is unlikely to play a major role in anything in the franchise

Something that it was in the back of my head while watching the show is that why no one talks about Batman? Not that I wanted him to show up but you would think that these criminals would be at least a bit concerned about that while making their big plans to rule Gotham.

Joker tv show was already announced

Guessing it will be a prequel on how he was put in Arkham rather than set between films

from what i can guess, he only really chased low level criminals and all the high crime families where left alone since corrupt police etc etc etc, hes only been batman for about 26? months, even then oz might think hed have died during the flood.
i think they only mention riddler once aswell.

He’s not a concern to day to day criminals

day to day

hehe, true.

Gunn straight up debunked it

good. a joker series would just be cringe

a good one about a failing comedian being forced into petty crime and eventually getting fucked over would be good. if it was like the penguin but thats wishful thinking

I assume he was busy helping with the flood

that would be more reason for oz to mention him ?

implying Gunn is in charge of the Reevesverse

Could even have penguin cameo as one of the goons sent to collect payment from him since irs a prequel

The Joker isn't a complex or human enough character. In fact, his strength resides in his lack of humanity and the ambiguity of both his inner workings and his origins. The Killing Joke is the work everyone always cites as a definitve Joker story, and it is, but it shouldn't be treated as a defacto explanation of who he is or why he is because it ruins the character's mystique and the horror of it.

A Joker series would either be an origin story, which would be redundant because of the recent Todd Phillips movie, or a series about him going around doing fucked up Joker stuff, which isn't interesting or sustainable in a vacuum.

You're better off doing a series about one of the more human Batman rogues. A Two-Face series that literally splits fopcus between his rise to DA as Harvey Dent and his descent into madnewss as Two-Face could work. Maybe a Scarecrow series covering his growing fixation with fear and his work to perfect the fear toxin? Either way, Joker is no bueno.

The Joker isn't a complex or human enough character.

thats why you try to make him one.

God I hope they just ignore Joker im fucking sick of him. I hope the utter failure of Joker 2 will mean we wont see him again for awhile.

No, because that fucking sucks and misses the point of the character.

i retract my statement then.

He's in charge, he just isn't hands on with it like with the DCU.

Barry Keoghan's Joker is probably just going to be Reeves' equivalent of Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow in the Nolan trilogy, he just makes a random cameo in Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises then fucks off for the rest of the films.

They should resurrect that GCPD show they canned, that kind of series can allow them to flesh out Gotham while also exploring more Batman villains including that probably can't appear in the PG-13 movies like Professor Pyg.

I thought they were going to connect the whole gun umbrella thing with how his mom kept bringing up how his brothers didn’t have umbrellas when they left home. But no dice.
