Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS introduces Marvel’s First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) — as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from ravenous space god Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

What does this mean?

Member Fant4stic?

Galactus is gonna cuck Reed

Galactus is reportedly after Franklin as well.

How long until we have porn of She-lver surfer?

Will happen as soon as the first picture of her drops.

Why couldn't Pedro shave his face for the role

I'm digging the Gable 'stache. It fits the mood.

Idk, we shall see.

we already have a full scene of her in the trailer.

Why couldn't Pedro shave his face for the role

because this is the effort they're gonna put in the "good" version of this franchise.

He's a fucking spic playing Reed Richards and his shitty facial hair is the biggest gripe you have?

we already have a full scene of her in the trailer.

No, we don't.

bump

I'm legit hyped for this.

4th times the charm

It's like poetry.

Oh boy can't wait to get lectured on how problematic everything was 6 decades ago

Bonus points if it's the woman doing the scolding

If the Silver Surfer isn't just a hot silver chick I'm not watching it.

Why does it even need to be set in the 60s though?

There were two rumors

they're adapting the story where they have to turn Franklin into a replacement for Galactus. The Surfer then departs with the new Galactus promising he will be more compassionate.

Reed is actually from 616 but his theories and science work in this universe; in 616 Sue, Ben and Johnny all died from his test flight.

So heckin wholesome

nta but yes.

A black man played Johnny but that shit wasn't released the year after they killed one of the most iconic portrayals of the character.

God if I were Joseph Quinn I would be so fucking mad at Feige. Quite possibly the most unfortunate casting since Jake Lloyd.

I call bullshit on both of these.

It's mainly an homage. More so than other Marvel characters, a lot of the DNA of the FF is rooted on atomic-age optimism, the spacerace and traditional americana, so setting it in the 60's is a good insight on how the book captured that spirit. Plus it's the 4th reboot so I guess they'd like to try something new.

Franklin's heavily rumored to appear in both this film and the Avengers duology, and some time ago a photo of Vanessa Kirby with apparently a baby during shoots got leaked. "First Steps" is also said to have a double meaning: a reference to the space race and the family bringing Franklin into the world.

Plus it's the 4th reboot so I guess they'd like to try something new.

They're already doing that without the '60s setting. Whether it's with shit that could easily work as well as it can backfire (genderbending the Silver Surfer) or with genuinely egregious decisions (Ben's actor shitting all over practical effects)

Yeah, I just hope it's at the least decent, the FF deserve it. Altough as a last thing about the setting, I appreciate they decided to have the film take place in a whole different universe. For a story called the MULTIVERSE saga, it comes off as a missed opportunity to have only two films not set in the main MCU (other one being D&W)

Yeah, I just hope it's at the least decent, the FF deserve it.

And the MCU doesn't.

There is absolutely ZERO reason to make The Thing practical. They could do better with CGI 13 years ago.

Wah, wah, wah.
What a tiresome, predictable creature you've become.

Ah yes, the "you only hate the MCU because it's popular" argument.

Cool, cool, nice. I hope you stick by that motto during the rest of Phases 5 and 6.

P.S. you cunts deserved fat thor

We can separate things. I don't like the MCU that much but I want a good FF film regardless of what franchise it takes part in.

"Wanda, Black Bolt has a supersonic voice i'm sure me telling you that won't make it easier to defeat him"

"I want a good FF film" you won't find that shit here, that's for sure.

GET HIS FUCKIN' RAGS OFF

All joking aside, I want to adress the elephant in the room.
Fantastic Four are rooted in a very particular brand of 60s future romanticism. It's a very sincere "we're close to flying cars and meeting aliens" kind of feel that coincided with the rise of the space program.
It's the kind of charm that makes the original Doctor Who and other sci-fi movies and shows still watchable despite their cheap props and at times questionable acting.
I'm not even remotely convinced MCU could recreate that charm. Hell, MCU couldn't even recreate the 90s feel for Captain Marvel beyond the most barebone "membah Blockbuster? membah Nirvana?" lipservice. That never felt like it could be a 90s movie. They probably could I'm imagining the 60s wank would feel just as shallow.

quips

I'm pretty sure they used the fucking Saturn V for the rocket.
