Moana 2 is on its way to make a record earning, likely over 1.5 billion just like Inside Out 2, despite being episodes of a Canadian animated show being strung together
Disney never has to try again in making its animation or even make new stories, because the consumer has proven themselves as idiots who will watch anything with the right IP. Next one will likely be largely AI generated because the consumer has proven any cuts in quality will be supported as long as it’s the right brand.
And in the end, you all deserve it. Iger intentionally killed off 2d animation and now he’s killed off original creations being made.
It’s officially over
despite being episodes of a Canadian animated show being strung together
So this is just a glorified Buck Wild Adventures or some shit? Wow.
What's the appeal of Moana anyways? I thought the first movie was boring and it doesn't do anything that other Disney movies haven't already done before
Why is it so popular?
Frozen 2 also made 1.5 Billi despite being terrible.
And don't forget all the live action remakes.
brand recognition is so important it's unreal
Interesting. I didn't think this franchise was especially popular.
John lasseter wasnt joking when he said that you can have an hour and a half of blank film leader with the Disney name on it and people will go see it.
Reminder
glorified Buck Wild Adventures
It's literally how Disney used to make their durect to video movies from the late 90s to early 00s. They were animated by their TV animation division who made Ducktales and Goof Troop and it was easier for them to make "anthology" flicks whete each story is actually just a bunch of tv show pilots.
It's Disney. As long as the princess doesn't have nappy hair like Wish did and more-or-less looks feminine, little girls will love it and parents would feel comfortable taking the family to see it.
It’s more than just that, it isn’t the “Disney” brand it’s the series brand itself. Disney couldn’t save Wish, but Moana branding on Wish saves it and makes record profits
Here it isn’t even that, it’s straight up direct to dvd content
No way a movie that has no fuckable furry animals gross over 1.5 billion.
Inside Out has ugly, disgusting characters in it. Moana has some dolphins I could fap to at least.
That was 1994. A whole damn lot has changed since then.
The first one had good songs snd visuals.
The sequel machine will never stop
oh so it's essentially just Pokemon. Can't wait when it gets a Palworld equivalent.
Can't wait when it gets a Palworld equivalent
That was the main reason Dreamworks came into existence
Wish proved that very wrong.
Yeah I hate those fucking cheap sequels.
I love Moana compared to the shit that's Tangled and Frozen and I will fucking watch this.
I had to search deep in my memory to remember what the fuck Wish was. Did it come out last year? Two years ago? Who knows.
I think there isn't any real alternative for this huge audience with a real need to distract their kid for an hour.
Trump winning is also proof how stupid people are
Not overrated, but declining. They could deliver good stuff if their decisions were less focused on being marketable, but on the other hand if they try something different, noone watches it.
jeez anon, not every church is as corrupt as yours :^)
I'm lucky. I expected that to happen 4 years ago, so I'm deflated opposed to the Dobson thread and ignorant about it.
Not exactly, that only applies if the Disney movie in question isn’t part of some random culture war debacle, today that can turn people away from a Disney movie if the ridiculous internet drama grows big enough to pop the bubble and bleed into real life conversations.
What random "culture war debacle" was Wish involved in?
if i had to guess probably the mc being a brown female
That applies too with Dreamworks movies. Case in point, pic related.
Moana isn't as likeable as Rapunzel. I say this as someone who dislikes every Rapunzel-esque girl they keep making after Tangled including Anna.
The Rock being a cocky douche and his relationship with Moana dragged the first film up from the pit of mediocrity that is the rest of it
For me it was You're Welcome and Shiny.
Other things may have happened in the movie, I don't remember.
Everything is always "breaking records" because inflation is a bitch and everything is constantly getting more expensive.
Fuck Hollywood they're constantly boasting about how every new movie is a huge success making them a bunch of money. How many other businesses do that?
hey come buy our eggs because we're making more profit than ever before
come live at our apartment complex we jacked up the prices and are making more money than ever!
Visually it's way better.
The reason these films flopped was because mass audiences are indifferent to original properties with no reputation or fame. Movies based on IP are different, as they can either benefit from good reviews, or make bank regardless of reviews just due to how recognizable the characters are. Despicable Me keeps getting worse movies, yet they're still successful because little kids love minions. As long as the movie has the characters kids wanna see and the animation isn't absolute dogshit, families will make it millions. You need some Lightyear level of weird take on your IP to fail in that level.
I admit that Moana isn't fleshed out as a character at all, including compared to Rapunzeln. But I friggin hated everything about that movie except the horse and the look (which is way less impressive now).
Things sure are expensive around here, it would be pretty moronic to start a trade war with 2 of our closest and friendliest neighbors.
other businesses do effectively the same thing all the time by announcing sales figures. box office is just a different numerical representation of 'thing popular, go buy'.
McDonald's has started losing money because of how many people started talking about how expensive it's becoming. It brought them success in the short term, not in the long term.
Media sales are fucked up because they're always going up. Banjo Kazooie only sold 3 million. Watch Dogs sold over 3 times that at 10 million. More people are buying more games now than ever before so even a shitty modern game might end up getting more sales than an iconic game from the past.
I compare Disney to Mc Donalds, expensive but bland.
Wish might be the worst example. Hey let's make this princess a Latina (but actually make her extra dark so she's basically black). Let's give her a cute animal sidekick I dunno make it a fucking goat or some shit.
It's all so by the numbers. What is the hook? What is there to differentiate it from other generic Disney films? With a film like Mulan? Oh it's about China and the animal sidekick is a dragon voiced by Eddie Murphy I like him! Frozen? I heard "Let it Go" on YouTube it's a pretty catchy song! Even Encanto had "We Don't Talk About Bruno" which was pretty catchy. Why in the fuck would I want to watch Wish though?
I'll never see Wish in my entire live but one review I've seen was absolutely baffling. It felt like a direct to DVD movie you'd see on a cartoon channel that ran out of money to air something better.
It looks as desaturated as a PS2 game.
Control your illegals, maple bitch.
Oh wait, they're legal because you willingly swallow communist jizz.
despite being episodes of a Canadian animated show being strung together
QRD on this?
Even the premise was terrible. If I can't easily describe a Disney movie premise to a child or a grandma it's a bad premise.
IN THIS MOVIE THE TOYS COME TO LIFE!
IN THIS MOVIE AN OLD GUY PUTS BALLOONS ON HIS HOUSE TO FLY AWAY!
How do I describe Wish?
You see grandma in the movie there's this guy who grants people's wishes.
Oh she's he's the good guy!
No actually he's the bad guy.
But you said he grants wishes.
Well yeah but the girl in the movie thinks he should grant more wishes, so that makes him a bad guy.
???
Wish is really blatantly the process of sanding off every conceivable bullet point handed in by a producer, executive or test audience to try and hit every metric or target assigned to them.
Dude it was the anniversary movie. They had the chance to make the fucking Smash Bros/ Lorcana of Disney movies but they didn't (the short doesn't count because fuck Mickey Mouse/ Walt Disney wank). It would have sold HARD. Hell they could have made it a blatant commercial for Lorcana. They were just incredibly lazy.
Yeah even with the protagonist. Hispanics have been waiting decades to get a proper "Latina Disney Princess". But Disney couldn't help themselves and had to go full DEI and make her black.
It's not "diversity" when you ignore every other race and just make every character either white or black. This is why people are so pissed off at the main protagonist of the new Assassin's Creed game being black. I'd be perfectly fine playing a Japanese samurai. Why does every character have to be black to count as "diversity"?
the more things change the more they stay the same
They made the obligatory annoying marketable sellout character a goat. A friggin goat. Who likes goats except countries that ban Disney movies?
Jennifer Lee liked it because it wore pajamas. I don't think she knows who Djali is.
I have no idea who the hell that is.
Forget about Smash Bros. They already had a blueprint in the form of Kingdom Hearts. If they made "Kingdom Hearts: The Movie" that's just instant profit. They wouldn't need to pay Nintendo for the "Smash Bros" name. They could easily ignore the Final Fantasy characters if they didn't want to pay for the rights.
Just having Sora traveling into multiple Disney films from the past would have been a great "100 year anniversary movie" and it would have made them tons of money as well. Even people who have never played the game would love the idea. It's so obvious why am I on Anon Babble pointing this out while fucking execs are getting paid 100s of millions to be fucking retards and greenlight a bunch of failure movies like Wish?
I meant Smash Bros as in "everyone being there", not literally Smash Bros. I disagree with the Kingdom Hearts thing because adults would immediately drop the movie, because its weeb shit.
It's criminal how we don't have a Kingdom Hearts show or movie. Look at all the weird stuff they make for Disney Plus but ignore this popular franchise.
It would only seem like "weeb shit" if they made it anime. That's the trick, you don't make it anime you make it live-action. And as we know Disney doesn't make traditional 2D animated movie anymore.
The Lion King movie was a massive success. Now imagine you're making a Kingdom Hearts movie. You don't just get fans of Kingdom Hearts. You get people showing up to see the live-action Jack Skelington. People showing up for Angelia Jolie possibly making a cameo as Maleficent. You can do something as simple as Danny DeVito as Phil from the Hercules movie and you'd get the audience cheering.
If executed right a Kingdom Hearts would make a ton of money.

Honestly, I bet it's Square's fault. I remember them collaborating with Monster Hunter World and for some fucking reason it seems they only joined if their content can be a permanent addition to one of the maps, which is bullshit.
They are so horny over their licenses, I bet they are too demanding to start anything with them.
It would only seem like "weeb shit" if they made it anime
The characters look weeb shit even in 3D, and Square surely won't let anyone design them western.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Box Office of Moana 2 revived the Disney Direct to Video line desu.
Square surely won't let anyone design them western.
Nintendo allowed Donkey Kong riding around to "Take on Me" from A-ha.

It didn't even make sense from a thematic standpoint it was just an old popular American song hamfistedly shoved into the movie. I doubt Square Enix has some sort of "standards" that would prevent them from allowing a Kingdom Hearts movie from going through.
I’m going to shoot all of us in the foot because you didn’t stop this guy’s dog from pissing on my rug
Which really fucking sucks because a Kingdom Hearts movie would make gangbusters at the Box Office.
I'm ok with this, I would rather have endless sequels than having the garbage we had been dealing with before
By the way Disney has been making shitty sequels longer than not so it's tradition
It neurone activates little girls into spending money
How many other businesses do that?
Tons
x show is sold out
x album is triple platinum
x game sold 46 million copies first day
New York times bestseller X
America's favorite X brand
etc.
Yes but as I wrote before... I think the weeb shit character designs would scare the adult audience away, and you want that one too.
I want Disney to start adapting the Twisted Tales books and do sequels/midquels/spinoffs of Disney TVA's most iconic/popular series.
But isn't visiting so many worlds more suited for a show than a movie? Aqua's sad adventure in Secret Episode/Fragmentary Passage could probably be a movie but the other adventures are just too big.
It is that's a good point, so scratch the movie idea, it should be a big budget TV series although the pilot could be a Movie with a limited theatrical release
Especially If they were to revive the DTV Movie line
Every one of your examples is "media" though. You can promote media due to it's popularity. You can't really do the same for something like let's say, milk. You can hype up media because it's the unknown. People don't know maybe this new movie or book is life-changing!
But for a known quantity like milk? Well everyone knows what milk is like they're not going to be so easily tricked into thinking some new brand it something special.
Technically since the country is based on Spain she's Afro-Espaniola.
It would be interesting to see writers have a do-over on the story. A chance to include a lot of the Ultimania stuff that was told after the release so most fans don’t even have the info, with more hints/continuity of future events (games Nomura hadn’t fully planned), and taking details from the novels and manga is an interesting possibility. How about this...
Season 1: Kingdom Hearts 1 FM
Season 2: ReCoM/Days in chronological order. Or should these be kept separate?
Season 3: Kingdom Hearts 2 FM
Season 4: Birth by Sleep Final Mix w/ Final Episode & Secret Episode. Should this continue on into Fragmentary Passage, or should that be its own season? Nomura never got to make that 0.5 game he wanted; maybe he could tell those stories in an ‘original’ season that’s not fully based on a game? youtube.com
Season 5: Recoded/Dream Drop Distance
Season 6: Kingdom Hearts 3 w/ Remind and all that later stuff
it was just an old popular American song
A-ha is norwegian, USA-centric fucktard.
The songs were kinda good (how far I’ll go, shiny, and your welcome especially) but yeh it was pretty boring and generic
Nah, to the average consumer (mainly kids and families) just having Disney appear will automatically give them a more positive reaction, don’t let culture war shit fool you.
Frozen 2 has this same issue, it’s plot is nearly incomprehensible compared to the 1st movie whose plot is almost paper thin.
It would only seem like "weeb shit" if they made it anime
Isn’t anime super popular nowadays?
Not if you also want the boomer audience, and those bland Disney movies these days are made with a formula that talks to all audiences. Shitty animal sidekicks for the toddlers. Princesses and bad jokes for the kids. Visuals and music for the adults.
It's sung in English, not bork bork language
I see, that makes sense
You're ok with this, until they reach a film you liked, and they do their typical twisting
any cuts in quality will be supported as long as it’s the right brand.
*cough* Windows Vista *cough*
The latina princess thing is hilarious because she isn't either. Her mom is african, her dad is a spaniard and she grew up in some spanish island in the mediterranean. Disney wanted to market her as the first afro-latina princess but they knew they couldn't.
We already have our latina Disney princess, but since she was created by the television branch Disney pretends she doesn't exists.
Elena deserves a theatrical feature
dont like that she doesnt look as thicc as in the first one
1 was a good movie with Moana actually learning instead of instant master of everything
also the music was great
this could have been way better but was still a decent watch
