Watched it and have some good moments. Dog Man's origin disgusted me, tho, too grim for what I was expecting of a more for kids movie.

Aside that, I like how well played is the loneliness theme is along the movie. It's good in general, but, nothing special.

Its entertaining and made me laugh a few times. Not knee-slapping out of control laughing or anything, but I enjoyed it and thought it was fun. I'd read all the books to my kids before, so knew it, but dont think you need to know the material AT ALL to enjoy it.
