This honestly feels like a fever dream to me. We’ve waited years for this to be shown and now it’s finally happening.

I love how angry the posters a couple threads ago got when I implied they viewed children's animation as the only piece of modern culture worth preserving for the future. No other form of media holds any value to them

children's animation as the only piece of modern culture worth preserving for the future

Very true.

I can see why they would think that given this is Anon Babble, but I believe we should preserve all aspects of culture that we are able to so that future historians have a better idea of what we were like.

What would a human that got revived in the far future say to our replacements, who were convinced we never created anything of value beyond shallow artworks, much like we viewed Neanderthals for a long time

I used to love Thomas as a kid, so I'm familiar with the episode, but what's different about this pilot compared to the final version? New music sounds more interesting, as Campbell/O'Donnell's score has always been an especially good part of the show.

There isn’t too much if I recall correctly, the major thing is that all the characters (except maybe the humans) all have different models.

He’d probably try to explain that the stuff they have is just the tip of the iceberg of what we created and try to fill in the gaps they have on our history

Different models and some scenes are framed differently(like the shot of the mine caving in).

Am I the only one feeling disappointed?

Gatekeeping of sitting on the pilot for 40 years

Models are ugly as sin, Gordon especially

Is just a worse version of Down the Mine

Thomas bros...were so back

I got it downloaded, I've waited too long to lose it again

That's presuming they'd even believe him by that point

Nah, it's interesting seeing earlier incarnations of these things, makes you appreciate the final product further.

I think I actually like this take more than the final version. It does a better job of illustrating the events.

does it really count as being "found" if it's just the original creators finally releasing it? it's more like the pilot was released from prison more then anything

I guess so, it's just uncanny valley of knowing a show I've known for decades since my childhood looking slightly off. But the pilot makes me feel uncomfortable, as cheap as Season 1 looked, it's much better than the pilot.

The shot of the mine collapsing is brilliant and I'm somewhat at a loss as to how something like it wasn't included in the final version.

I also don't know why we didn't see this unless the film rushes didn't survive but they showed off another shot that didn't make the restored cut.

I feel like “found” in this case relates more to the ability for the general public to finally have access to it. A lot of lost media is like that

I want to pass Thomas down to my children so badly. The problem is that the current incarnation of the series is complete babified dogshit which will have zero staying power. I care very deeply about Thomas being as good and as nurturing to my imagination as it was when I was little.

Just read the books to them and show them the seasons you want to, streaming makes it super easy to pick and choose what they consume

My best friend from college is having his first kid in a few months. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy him the omnibus of the books or if I should go and find a set of the original 26 books individually.

Also, on a selfish note I hope they find a way to release The Missing Coach rushes next. Or anything from behind the scenes of Season 2 since there's such a dearth of that by comparison.

I hope they find a way to release The Missing Coach rushes next

I feel like missing coach is next for the 90th anniversary, I think the 1950s pilot or the Andrew Lloyd Webber pilot are straight up destroyed.

bros...

I just want them to release the original OSTs. According to Mike O Donnell, they have them but are just sitting on them. The reconstructions on youtube are nice, but it'd also be nice to have the straight originals.

the reconstructions are made on modern software and don't even attempt to sound like the original synths
I know it's the actual guy making them, but they kinda suck

I wonder if it’s a legal thing with Mattel that he can’t just recreate them with the same instruments.

Mattel is a horrible, incompetent company run by retarded, spiteful fucks and they expect people to come crawling back by throwing them candy like this

A broken clock is right twice a day.

Mavis M

that's a man.
also Mike O'Donnell himself has made reconstructed versions of his own music, and even sells (copyright-skirting) CDs of it. The problem is it's not the original synth keyboards, so it just sounds like old music... but modern

Thomasgods... we won

it's a surprisingly better shot than the final, though i guess he was too close so people would notice the slight differences even more than the other repurposed shots. i might be a bit retarded but i was kind of surprised the shot of thomas passing under the bridge they used for the episode names was also from the pilot.

Whoooaaaaa no waaayyyyy, toddler show bros we are so BACK! Seriously who the fuck gives a shit? It's fucking Thomas the Tank Engine, that shit's about as relevant as Betty Boop or Thundercats. Nobody gives a shit about it.

If you enjoyed something as a child to the point you value it and want to pass it down to your kids like you would a family heirloom, you give a shit about stuff like this. And even then having something new after all these years still makes my whole day.

its almost like they should've acted their age long ago

shut up thomas you cheeky cunt, you went down that mine on your own
