This is like the worst thing she could say to him. He's spent his whole life feeling like he has to be perfect for everybody and it's burning him out.
I almost feel obligated to give Taeshi props for this, it's kind of interesting? Like the comic harps on "Mike bad bcuz Sandy" so often that it sometimes feels like Taeshi just forgot about the actual character she wrote.
Also a nice detour from the "Mike and Lucy are literally the same" thing she's been doing with his downward spiral. This problem feels distinctly Mike to me.
I suspect Taeshi was inspired by bleating hearts and wanted to also have a plot with a fucked up mom who "means well" but damages her kids with her actions. She's good friends with flakop and follows that comic closely

Mike having an eventual breakdown is going to feel more Justified to me than than Lucy's December one. Honestly I think that whole thing was a mix of Taeshi having no real idea what to do with Davind because his character is just random memes , and not being able to help herself from dunking on mike for "Comedy". So instead of Mike and James going to the movies ending on them being friends with a mutual understanding of the situation, you got David and the cats coming in to muck things up, and James suddenly fawning over him like Mike didn't matter.
I don't dislike David, and I hope he and James get together, also I kinda like Eternal Flame.
