The only thing I can kind of see is that Relic's universe started getting eaten by weird tentacle monsters at the end but it was already dying because the emotional reservoir ran dry.

Also it's really weird because Edge of Oblivion is both a sequel to Lost Army but there's so many continuity errors or dropped plot points that it feels like an alternate universe.
