The Diagetic premise is that darkside created a universe in which the justice league are given reduced circumstances in their origins.
The real life pitch is that they're creator lead books that have very specific ideas that run not counter to their mainlines, but strongly unique.
Start with Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman, they're the best of the lot.

Technically the premise is that there's this new universe made with "Darkseid energy" I don't know if you know who that is, he's a Justice League villain. But honestly that hasn't come up at all yet.
It's mostly just re-imaginings of these DC characters with new origin stories, new powers, and new status quos.
So Absolute Wonder Woman is raised in hell by Circe instead of Paradise Island with the Amazons, Bruce Wayne isn't a billionaire, Superman grew up mostly on Krypton instead of Earth, and so on.
It sounds edgy, but it isn't really.

You can read the issue 1s of the Trinity for free on the DC website. I recommend Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter the most. They are generally seen as the best of this new line.

Nope, it's a fresh start.
It helps to know a bit about the characters, so you can see how they've changed. But that doesn't really factor in. I don't think not knowing about Etta Candy would have diminished by enjoyment of Absolute Wonder Woman #3 for example.
So far the art is terrible, and nothing really has happened yet. It's supposed to be more of a horror comic, but the art does not sell that at all.
It could get better once the main Green Lantern actually starts doing Green Lantern things, but that could take a few months to get ging.

I'm familiar with the regular DC cast yeah, I just stopped bothering with their huge events after bullshit like BWL or Barbatos or whatever, and the official descriptions of the premise for Absolute Universe kept mentioning those events and that same "Darkseid energy" term and I understood none of it.
