I don't think I've ever seen any superhero training outside of the occasional background shot of them bench pressing on their day off, but there's never a story arc that involves them training to get stronger

It's not a normal genre convention. Any of the peak human characters have implied training in their origin story, and I'm sure if you dig deep enough there are some panels of Bruce Wayne or Dick Grayson exercising.
X-Men are a notable exception to the rule- the danger room is an important feature of the franchise.
As an aside, I remember a What If that implied Peter Parker could be a lot stronger if he actively trained his powers.
