Why is it underperforming despite great reviews?

Why is it underperforming despite great reviews?

Marvel lost the audience's trust after so many shit movies in a row and the roster of characters isn't exactly the most exciting.

Superheroes are boring now.

I put Thunderbolts in my top 3 in all of MCU but the multiverse saga has been horrible. Even most of the 'good' entries have major flaws. Shame they probably will get killed off in Doomsday/Secret Wars. I'd rather Elaine's crew as the main Avengers over whatever Captain Falcon comes up with.

Woke = broke

temu avengers

I really think critics overrated it just because of the frankly shallow "mental health" stuff.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! THAT IS VERY FUNNY!

nice try

Captain Falcon's movie killed whatever remaining interest people had in the MCU. The word of mouth and goodwill from Thunderbolts might help Fantastic Four though.

It's a superhero movie about characters nobody knows and no Avengers movie looming to help hype it up. Maybe if they make a sequel that will do better after people discover the first one on streaming.

It's not a movie parents want to take their kids to. Kids like Iron Man, Spiderman, Hulk, and Captain America. They want to buy those toys, clothes, and Halloween costumes.

Thunderbolts isn't a kiddie movie. Yelena the Russian and discount Captain America just doesn't have that big money feel to it.

Almost like it’s shit and the reviews are paid for

nobody is seeing movies. This is #5 worldwide at the box office of this year so far, that last Captain America that bombed? #3.

Nobody is going to theaters anymore.

Maybe people would go see it if they had more scenes of people hugging

The MCU is like a crazy bitch of an ex that crashed out on you and blocked your number.
They gave us no choice but to quit watching, find a new hobby, and move on with our lives. It's not our fault Marvel has to live with those consequences.

It was always going to be one of the more modest performers - it's a bunch of literally whos with relatively low-to-the-ground powers.

Brave New World bombing

Us? Who is us? There is no us.

Honestly, I haven't watched a single MCU thing since Endgame. It was a pretty good endpoint for superhero movies as a whole.

They have no brain cells.

that's good it made back all the money kraven and madame web lost

we're past the golden era of superhero blockbusters but disney hasn't realized it yet

Capeshit fatigue.

inb4 NOOOO ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS MAKE GOOD MOVIES AND IF THAT DOESN'T WORK THEN MAKE MOVIES ABOUT CHARACTERS EVERYBODY FUCKING KNOWS LIKE BATMAN, SUPERMAN AND SPIDERMAN. IT'S NOT DEAD AT ALL!!

If red hulk wasn’t in cap 4. That would have made closer to 200 million than 400.

This is why their advertising was so heavily focused on red hulk, even though the actual plot treats it like a twist, and he barely shows up until a short part near the ending

In comparison they made the unwise choice to not advertise the shit out of the sentry in this movie. Think about all the shit they could have done

have in world test advertisement about sentry being more powerful than all avengers rolled into one, how he’s been thoroughly vetted by test groups to make him the perfect hero, right down to his hair and costume

get hints of the void with weird shadows

have real life advertisements, where shadows get painted onto walls, floors and billboards like he does in the movie

While he barely shows up as sentry, he’s so important they needed to flash him off more. Especially since he’s actually gonna show up more unlike red hulk

For other cheap advertisements, maybe some short “documentaries” on the other members. Some CCTV footage capturing each one doing badass shit. Probably only Walker and red guardian agree to be interviewed. Would be relatively cheap and only need to put online

While not entirely accurate. I think they should’ve leaned into the “this is our homelander” thing with sentry. In that he’s entirely manufactured by a corporation down to dying his hair. Sentry tries to fulfill this but won’t kill them, he’s not evil. Bob is not comfortable with it at all. It all feeds the void even more. They only brush over it in the movie that Bob had delusions of grandeur either m from the drugs or the program

I get wanting to “preserve the twist” but it feels pointless nowadays, literally have had clips of major parts of the movie on YouTube and tiktok from day 1

needs more bucky

The actor looked fucking busted in this one, it's better he wasn't the "main" Thunderbolt.

Guardians of the Galaxy was even less known than the Thunderbolts characters, who all got tv show appearances - made over 700 million.

I think a lot of people resent the MCU for breaking Hollywood and depleting the cultural soil for the next generation.
I don't care if it makes a "fun" movie again, it sucked all the air out of movies as an art form and I want it to die.

Because even if it's solid, everyone knows Marvel's current storytelling is so dogshit you can't just walk into the theater and get what's happening, you need to see 4 other shit movies to understand the setup.

Reviews don't dictate how many people wanna see a movie

The MCU killed its own credibility. So, they have to rebuild it, and it will take more than just one movie.

Because the shit Cap movie ruined everyone's expectations for Thunderbolts. People simply don't care anymore, no matter how good the movie is because there have been too many stinkers. They need to release 3 good movies in a row to get people back.

direct sequel to black widow, while at the same time to falcon and winter soldier, hawkeye, cap 4 and it also supposed to bee its own thing

Schizo continuity.

Not to mention how much "Marvel has a Superman/Homelander now" would capture the normies' attention. I also don't get why they didn't just call the movie New Avengers to begin with.

IF YOU WANT AN ACTUAL HONEST TAKE:

Yes, the movie was good, not just by "New Marvel movies" standards, but by Marvel standard in general. But here is the thing. People have been given slop again and again, and a lot of people got disillusioned. It will take more than ONE good movie get people's faith in your projects back.

GOTG succeeded because it was a meme movie, not because it was good, same goes for Spider-Verse and Minecraft and Thor Ragnarok etc

Flashy colors + fast action + lots of one liners and meta self-awareness = a huge hit with the ADD zoomers and alphas, Thunderbolts is the opposite of that

Thunderbolts is not a big spectacle movie with a billion cameos and references, that's why you think it's boring.

still needed more

I don't know man maybe flat gray scenes with women dressed up specifically engineered to cover any hint of their sex and a team of literal who's going up up against "someone?"

but hey a couple quips and a shirtless man is all hero movies need , personally Im not supporting a company that hates me weather its a movie or a comic

i've stopped going to theaters after the last three movies i watched had people talking on the phone or watching tiktok on speaker

this
I wanted to say I never heard of them in the comics, but turns out I did, they were just not memorable enough.

typical 20/20 hindsight
anon alwasys knows what happened afterwards

Brave new world was so shit and recent enough it poisoned the well
