billy did sue apollo legends frivolously, but he didn't take any money from him in their settlement. he did force apollo to shut up about his cheating, but he didn't financially destroy or bully apollo into killing himself. apollo legends had a metric ton of health problems and cited those, along with darkviperau and the speedrunning community cancelling him at the time, for pushing him to suicide.
karl knowingly lied when he pinned the blame on billy. he claimed billy pushed apollo to suicide, was informed by various parties including apollo's brother that this was false, but republished this claim anyway, and proceeded into this suit knowing his claims weren't possibly provable. he did this purely out of spite and for the sake of putting a stain on billy's reputation. there's no other way to put it, he acted with malice.
