When did south park become bad?

When did south park become bad?

South Park.png - 422x236, 164.12K

when it stopped being an irreverent mocking of pop culture and society in general and became a satire of current affairs

When Butters replaced Kenny.

Like 15 years ago

When they made South Park: Snow Day. Seriously, after Fractured but Whole, that was the best they could do?

And Stick of Truth was much better than Fractured, these South Park games are getting worse.

Around 10 years back when it started serializing itself id say

It stopped being worth it since the ep they grew up in...

always was

they really got up their own ass after the episode where stan sees everything as shit

South Park was never good though

it was irredeemably bad after season 19 but it started getting shittier after season 11
i genuinely hate the newer seasons. i can't stand kyle's new SJW personality. that's not the boy i fell in love with.

Shortly after the movie came out.

When they realized they can cash a paycheck by just making fun of anything topical happening.

When it started making fun of the ideology you personally agree with

When it started having season-long storylines.

15 years ago, maybe more

Probably when Trey Parker started identifying more with Randy than with Stan.

This.
I don't give a single fuck about any of the adults in South Park because every one of them is irredeemable. That's their role. So whatever Randy's latest misadventure is, I don't care because he doesn't deserve to succeed and I'm not interested enough to watch him fail.

Probably this. Randy was fine as a side character being retarded on a sideplot or whatever, not the fucking spotlight.

I'm still seething at the season 18 finale, that final was anti-climatic as fuck.

it's sad because the randy episodes on the early seasons were the best ones

I remember thinking about how long-in-the-tooth and nearly unrecognizable South Park had become by the time they had made the World of Warcraft and Nintendo Wii episodes.
I'm not convinced you could actually tell any difference between a 2008 episode and a 2024 episode except by the date of whatever it's referencing. You may as well be talking about the difference between the Simpsons seasons 19 and 35.

the World of Warcraft episode

I'll forever curse that episode for tricking me into wasting years of my life in that game thankfully without paying a cent kek

Never. It’s still going strong.

Much like Seth, he secretly wishes his popular show would end, except he’s still running it and figures he should just do as he pleases so that he isn’t miserable running the show

somewhere around imagination land and fishsticks. that's where you could say it starts going downhill. guitar queero is kind of the first Randy episode that pushes him too hard as the main character. pretty much the season where randy is the focus is the start of the end.

technically where it gets really bad is the season after stick of truth came out since that season just reuses jokes from the game and it's the start of the overarching storyline seasons.

When Trump won.
Something about it just broke Matt and Trey.

This show is literally all he has left. His wife and kid left him and Matt isn't gay for him and merely used him for the show, so he has nothing at all.
This, Trump winning broke every single L leaning mind in 2016. 2024 was just stomping on the rest of the mush.

My sleepy brain read that as raped.
That would certainly make the show bad.
Goodnight everybody

I dunno, but I stopped caring after the Game of Thrones console war arc since I didn't watch Game of Thrones nor play on consoles.

I think current South Park (with the streaming movies) is a bit better than the Serialized era of the 2010s.

Season 15

This
Unironically felt off from the start of the season
It's almost like they stopped caring after the 200/201 fiasco from the previous season

I don't remember when I stopped watching, but it didn't really just get bad flat out, it just started mixing in bad elements with the good. I'd wager it's still miles better than Family Guy or modern Simpsons

You’re Getting Old felt like they were tired of the show altogether.

The hashtag specials were the Principal and the Pauper of South Park. There are some great episodes before, and there are still some good episodes after, but it was clearly the end of an era.

How would you have felt yesterday evening if you hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch?

When they killed off Pip!

Whenever they replaced the original soundtrack with the weird, extremely generic "cinematic" score

I miss how in earlier seasons the focus between characters was evenly spread. I wouldn't mind some more Kenny though.
