It's always one of two routes whenever the adult cartoon comes from some comedian with a live-action background: either the creator lets the network executives attach the cheapest possible animation studio to try replicating Family Guy (see: any Bento Box show in the last 10 years), or the creator specifically reaches out to some literal who independent artist to develop the look of their cartoon as opposed to a professional character designer who'd know how to stylize in an interesting way while still maintaining basic visual appeal.

With the latter, said independent artists constantly make the mistake of aiming for realism despite lacking the technical skill to have their work look properly constructed like a Mike Judge or Joe Bennett cartoon. It ends up looking crude and uncanny because they didn't just embrace minimalism in their cartooning. Less is more if you want your crude art style to not be an eyesore, but the artists approached for these adult cartoons never seem to grasp that.
