the show would've been 100% better if they did all the townie shit in the early seasons then focused full-time on gem related stuff until the finale

I wouldnt mind episodic episodes if it still heavily featured gem characters ya know like the townie episodes did usually in the first season. Nobody likes the shitty humans in SU, vidalia, dewey and priyanka as the exceptions

I think the real villain is whoever decided that the show should only happen when Steven is around. We are only ever able to see what he sees and even in the flashback shit it has to somehow be tied to him being able to see that stuff which i just think is lame

Hard agree. Doesnt help when steven himself becomes a worse and worse character as the series progresses. What i wouldnt give for steven-less episodes focusing on individual gems adventures

Episode set in homeworld going over the lives of gems living there and how some like that way of living but also with glimpses of some finding themselves questioning their world.....
Oh or an episode focused entirely on the gems living on Earth trying to adapt to humans and even forming bonds with them without the constant interference of Steven who needs to walk them over every step.....

Even the decent ones were ruined since the townies wound up being completely irrelevant at the end despite all of the townie time wasting being to establish Steven's connection to humanity. They all fucking disappear (except Onion) and Steven leaves anyway so that was all time we could have spent on the gem shit that we were all there for.
It genuinely broke the series. Everything that could have been interesting wasn't. The theme of the gems growing as individuals and integrating into society was squashed by the fact that we never fucking saw them by themselves.

I liked the grounded, monster-of-the-week town episodes a lot more than the gay space lesbian melodrama arcs that dragged on way too long. It would have been a much comfier show if it was more about investigating the gem ruins and piecing a bigger picture together instead of lol by the way heres a big hand cry about it for thirty episodes.

Maybe first season ones where the gem characters were still involved, but after when it just primarily focused on the humans they were irredeemable shit. Its like they deliberately chosed to focus on the most uninteresting aspects of the show while ignoring the best parts

If it is another fucking episode of Amethyst dealing with her self-worth issues and making it everyone else's problem or some shit like Mr. Universe (Worst episode in the show , made me want to backhand Steven) , I skip it .

The first season was like a fever dream in hindsight. We were dumped into world where no one knew whether the gems were magic or aliens, none of the townies gave a shit about the constant terrifying battles with corrupted gems and other weird monsters. Literally no context or backstory whatsoever. I kinda liked it though, especially since the answers we did get were unsatisfactory.

They are very clearly meant to be Magic Aliens , literally none of the 5 seasons make any sense otherwise
