Without going into her whole plot the premise of the Ducklair sisters is the dueling influence of their cruel, power hungry mother, and that of their father who, while a piece of work himself, ran away with them specifically to try to avoid his daughters becoming monsters (ironically causing them to become even more maladjusted along with both developing a deep hatred of him)
Curiously the pic related is from a period of the story where Korinna is on the run and steals the identity of a governess hired for some wealthy man's children
The combination of her mother's "nurturing" style rubbing off on her and mind powers predictably make the venture a nightmare for the kids. But it's really interesting for showing how Korinna gravitated towards a parental role in the first place, and formed what she perceived as a close bond with the kids
