I think Popeye is the perfect cartoon series, consistent in animation and humor.

I eats me spinach.
How much of it? Do you go as far as the Famous shorts? If so, how much of the Famous period do you consider good
The original Fleischer run from 1933 to 1942.
Based
all of the popeye shorts are great but the Fleischer studio shorts are hands down the best of thebest (and that includes looney tunes)
Is Olive... hot?
no but i wouldnt call her ugly either
Not at all, but she was the one given a good redesign in the 50s, tough sadly not in personality
Yes.
No but I thought it was a subtle joke about how sailors were so starved for a womans attention due to being at sea so long they would beat each other to pulp over an average woman.
Popeye sure thinks so, and I'd trust the judgement of the manliest man whoever sailed the seas.
... so which is it
god damn it fred
personally the best tv iteration of popeye is the hanna barbera all new popeye hour, the studio fits the thimble theater vibe nicely
popeye and son could go walk the plank
Did you ever see a dream walkin'?
once when i was a kid watching boomerang late at night
Better animated than most cartoons today. John k was right. Max was right that cartoons should be cartoony.
one piece is that now
I know it doesn't "spring out" immediately, but you are aware there's a ginormous dong in your image, right?
Weird, I could have sworn he got his power front sniffing feet. Anyone else feel like there's some Mandela effect going on with people misremembering Popeye's foot obsession as this stange spinach eating bit?
The biggest gripe I have with what became of One Piece is they keep cutting down the frames on Luffy in rubber hose animation. They go so hard on the other visuals that they sacrifice having smoother animation on the more cartoony antics and it looks wrong having that loony toon-esq animation move so choppy.
There’s a lot of cartoons from back then set on construction sites, I remember a Mickey Mouse one with him being a crane operator.
In Thimble Theatre there's actually multiple stories where it's clear Popeye doesn't find her that hot, he just likes her anyway
It's both. Popeye just actually loves women, unlike many modern "men".
Those statements all have literally nothing to do with each other.
Famous studio Popeye shorts didn't become consistently bad until 1948. There are actually a lot of good Famous shorts.
Popeye sure thinks so
Well
Eh. I gave the show a try, but it sucks. It feels like it’s aimed squarely at kids, especially with the inclusion of those PSAs. Popeye has always been a general audience franchise, something both kids and adults can enjoy. But this version doesn’t offer anything that would keep an adult engaged. There are no clever jokes, it's just basic TV-Y7 levels of writing.
It also tones Popeye down too much. He fights, sure, but never actually throws a punch, especially not at Bluto. It's a big departure from both the classic cartoons and the original comic strip, which was part of his charm. Even the '60s cartoon had characters hitting each other. Popeye isn’t just about violence, but it is part of his character, and you do need it.
ace of space, eugene the jeep and insect to injury in f tier with the cheaters
I can't stands it.
that episode where Popeye has enough of Olive's fickle bullshit and dumps her ass at the end of the episode
she laments losing her chance at dating a sailor only to immediately bounce back by wanting to date a soldier in the army
Olive's a fucking slag and only gets attention from Popeye and Bluto because she's the only woman willing to give those two ugly mugs the time of day
Why is his laugh written as "Arf arf" but when we hear him, it's "ah guh guh guh"?
Ace of Space is D-tier on that list, and that’s fair. It’s basically a remake of Rocket to Mars, but it's worse, so it deserves D-tier.
Eugene the Jeep is just plain boring. The plot goes
Popeye tries to keep Eugene out of the house
Eugene keeps getting back in.
That’s it. Not exactly riveting stuff.
Insect to Injury is just the best of the worst, it’s one of the few halfway decent shorts from the '50s era. But if you compare it to the cartoons from the '30s and '40s, it's shit. It’s the best of a bad bunch, but overall, it's still an F-tier entry.
Someone post the comic where bluto rapes olive oil
but muh violence and surreal fleischer humor
Ace of Space is cool cuz it's 3D and Sid Raymond is in it. All of the voices in the Paramount cartoons were good — Mercer, Quetzel, Beck, etc —but Raymond has a really funny voice. He's funny in Duffy's Tavern and the Baby Huey cartoons.
I might be mixing up the Jeep cartoon with a different one, I just remember there being a Jeep cartoon that was really cool.
I like the plot of Insect to Injury and how it's so different from most late Famous shorts and not the tired Pop-Olive-Bluto triangle. I saw it a lot as a kid too so I might be biased.
The cheater cartoons suck so I just feel no real cartoon should be in the same category as them
He clearly has a type considering Olive's younger curvy cousin Sutra Oyl has thrown herself at Popeye and he still chases Olive.
Sutra Oyl
I don't get it
You should never let women get between your friendship.
I wish King Features wasn't so stingy with the license, I'd like to see this game come to the Switch.
I've never seen any of the shorts that had the witch in.
I think she appeared in those 60’s cartoons, along with other strip characters.
Bluto or Brutus?
Are they that stingy? They approved that dogshit Switch game, they approved that manga-style reinvention, they seem to approve most anything. If this game isn't on Switch I'd faster assume it's because Nintendo.
doesnt olive have a super hot cousin that is nice to popeye
Sutra Oyl
ok but what if instead of eating spinach, popeye got his powerup from sniffing feet
This, but only men's feet.
Pack it up guys. Apparently, Popeye cartoons are just boomer brain rot.
They are anon.
But they are still respectable for the craft, and Zoomers dont know shit about art or craft. Mostly because everyone is half desert people now.
I might be mixing up the Jeep cartoon with a different one.
You're most likely thinking about the 1938 short "The Jeep" which is a much better short with lots of funny ad-libs.
I would love to see what this guy thinks is clever.
Popeye would be asking you why you care about this rando and walk away probably
If you compare brainrot like Elsagate videos or 99% of what’s on TikTok to classic cartoons, they aren’t even in the same league. They’re simply not comparable.
Isn't that the shit Austin Powers has? I don't think KFS would reference that.
The name is clearly a Kama Sutra reference, the only question is if it's also a "Kama Sutra Oil" reference or if that's a coincidence
