Is getting a job in animation even worth it anymore?

Well... at least he's persistent.

Is getting a job even worth it anymore?

fixed

posted it again award

Go indie. It worked out well for Glitch and Vivziepop eventually got hired by Amazon.

Is getting a job even worth it anymore?

ftfy and the answer's no

Following your passion doesnt seem to be worth it any more, unless your passion is making money being some businessman or something.

I hate how he deleted his Twitter, so many interesting talks with fans lost like tears in rain.

Yo if I were Glitch I would have made the Netflix deal include all their shows. Even if Netflix didnt give em a dime more then what they payed for TADC they would have probably still seen a bigger spike in merch sales for Murder Drones and even Gaslight District

Well no, but largely because there are no animation jobs to get in the first place.

You wouldn't be getting a job at all. You would be working at a Starbucks all while telling other people you are really an animator and only ever telling friends online that you are a storyboarder on some cool project. You would be hanging out on some totally random anonymous image board bitching about the lack of jobs, getting just a little more jaded and bitter as time goes by then all of a sudden you realize you haven't had an actual paying gig since 2023 and what the fucking fuck did I even think to do this with my life in the first place? I fucking hate everything god dammit I just want to draw pictures.

but no, not really worth it

nah, i think is better to just get into indie animation and make money selling merch like Glitch tv.

That first day on a new storyboard is rough, I never actually know how to start one even though I have done hundreds.

yeah no, not in this economy kek

Storyboarding causes me so much pain, and yet I'm told that it's the most in-demand job.
One of these days I'm just gonna say fuck it and draw furry porn for a living

Cartoons ran their course. The fad is over. The only remaining sliver is the Disney channel.

What makes storyboarding so bad?

netflix is only interested in DEI quotas not originality.
the same can be said for most of the industry these days.

my best friend graduated in 2018. Hes had 2 gigs since then, 1 of which was really just a paid extension of an internship he had his last semester. Hes been a UPS clerk the last few years to survive. Its actually kinda funny cause he was always a stick growing up but 3 years of having 80lb boxes slamming into him has made him pretty built, but hes pretty miserable. Hes tried applying for souless marketing design gigs but no luck, so he does draw streams to keep his skill up, but I'm the only viewer half the time. Shits pretty grim.

Tell him to do a flip

no

Just learn to code, bro

Just learn a trade, bro

Ups is actually a really good company to work for. You're friend could be worse off

It’s fucking hard work. There are easier ways to make money. Don’t do it unless you really fucking love it,

This is like saying “buy lottery tickets. It worked out for the guys who won the lottery”.

Wow, you’re so smart with business despite not having access to any of their sales records or viewer stats. You should call them and tell them your idea. I’m sure they never thought of it you absolute retard

Same for music desu.

NTA, but there’s nothing more intimidating than the infinite abyss of an empty canvas. When you watch a show, all the decisions seem obvious and people think “I could do that”, but that’s because they’re thinking about being able to copy what was already done, not making all those decisions from scratch. It can be a real existential moment when you have to build something like that from nothing and the clock is ticking.

Meh. I know a guy who can crank out about 1000 panels a day.

Also, I don't see how it's so in demand I know someone that's been trying to land a job for almost five years now and everyone's saying it's going to be around 3 years before it starts picking up again.

It's the future because the industry in the West is just too fucked at the moment. The conglomerates need to be broken up and taken out of L.A.

If Craig can't get someone to pay for a cartoon he wants to make, why doesn't he just pay to make his own comic book?

No, really. Animationfags think they're too good for illustration?

I work in indie animation. It’s not what you think.
Best case scenario the indie scene shakes things up and proves to execs that there’s a demand for new original IP, but it’s not financially stable for the long term.

Because animators focus on performance, movement, action, and creating the illusion of life. Some of the people who really love the illustrative aspects may be fine with a comic, but if what really thrills you about the process is actually creating movement and drama through motion, a comic isn’t going to fulfill that need.

It’s like asking why songwriters don’t just write poetry. Some do, but for others, without the music it just doesn’t feel worthwhile.

The ones pushing them might be grifters

This, the pay is dogshit and there's no benefits, you're genuinely fucked for any basic healthcare unless where you live provides it for free. The public is idolizing the creators growing followings and conflating that with profit while assuming the whole crew gets the same treatment when they're only getting minimum wage at best for doing the grunt work. Shit man I don't think any creators besides Vivziepop and Gooseworx have actually received anything that could count as life changing so far.

The content slop farmers unironically likely are making better profits than the artists/animators on these indie shows.

never was

Goose is making a living, but I doubt she’s swimming in it. She’s gaining massive clout which she can use to pivot into something more lucrative after this, but Glitch creators aren’t making nearly what Hollywood creators would, and there’s no money on the backend.

All publishing is gambling. Either by you or your studio.

Art school is surrounded by a desert.

Prophetic.

Television animation is a wasteland. Game animation is better, but there's a lot of competition so you absolutely need a good network of clients.
