Now that time has passed...

Now that time has passed, this whole "Shaggy didn't want to be with Velma in public because of Scooby" was retarded right?
It would be less retarded if they just made Shaggy a closeted homosexual or just had Shaggy turned off by the fact that Velma was a bitch than the dumb explanation they gave

Yes it’s stupid.

Mystery inc was retarded

The big mystery at the end just being Cthulhu, but it was at the peak of when reddit-Americas (millennials) were sucking off Lovecraftian horror, so it was to be expected

The big mystery at the end just being Cthulhu was also retarded*

I like how they also made fun of Lovecraft stuff too. "Charhargothagone the beast that hath no name" and all that

A lot of sentiment was popping up within the industry at the time that cartoons and particularly teenage characters were basically role-models who were setting kids expectations around stuff like the teen years kids were looking forward to.
(Which honestly isn't wrong when you look at where the average kids expectations of high school came from at the time)
Because of this, an emphasis was placed on characters breaking up or having their hearts broken because they were afraid of deluding kids about the idea that their high school sweethearts would be couples that would last forever given how rare that is

Americans are fucking retarded

Started with the Canadians, anon. First Anon Babble cartoon to do this in a notable capacity was Total Drama Island. Live action and even comics had been doing it for years.

If you're to believe Tony Cervone, the Shaggy/Velma romance was a false lead and bait-and-switch for Velma to realize she liked girls instead.

I'll say it again, americans are fucking retarded and I despise them

There's limits to how far the whole "Scooby-Doo but serious" thing can be taken, and the line should be drawn at handling relationships.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Should've had it be because he was already seeing her sister instead

Did you not watch the show retard?

I also took it as an issue with Velma just sucking and Shaggy never feeling it in the first place.

Shaggy is sometimes a hungersexual.
But in reality, the Mystery Inc version was not ready for any type of relationship at the time.

This, shaggy needs to fuck Daphne and Velma nerds to fuck Fred

I think it's a disservice to Velma's character to make her cute or sexy

*bzzt* Wrong!

The entirely of Mystery Inc was shit, the overall story was shit, the characters' designs were shit as well, Fred looks like he has downs and the Hex Girls look the worst they ever looked on this show
they ruined Velma permanently by making her an asshole then the direct to video movies and Mindy Kailing's Velma doubled down on that personality as a result until both the direct to video movies and Velma were rightfully cancelled as a result

I’ll always think that’s retarded retroactive bullshit just because they’re desperate to say “LOOK LOOK! LESBIAN REPRESENTATION!” by ignoring the season worth of thirsting over shaggys cock kek

I appreciate Mystery Inc more for what it attempted than for what it actually did. I really want a more serialized and character driven Doo.

Hottest Velma is the one from What's New, that was long before writers ruined her as well

Shut up faggot

Velma is far worse. Only thing it has going for it is decent visuals and fanservice.

Scoob 2 cancelled

Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery Pups cancelled

Ghoul School sequel by the retards who made Return To Zombie Island and Curse of the 13th Ghost cancelled

I'm glad the direct to video Scooby-Doo movies are now dead, but I do wonder on how the fuck these autists were planning on retconning all the Ghoul School girls as being fake

Pretty sure he was kinda roped into this relationship not entirely willingly, and was simply too much of a wimp to say no, and didn't fully understood what it would really entail. Welma was his friend and a girl, so it probably wouldn't be that different as a girlfriend, right? Then he noticed that she got really pushy after some sweet time he enjoyed and started using Scooby as a excuse to weasel his way out. Doesn't mean he wanted to tell Scoob abiut whole thing either knowing his friend wouldn't feel as special anymore. In the end it was shitty on Shaggy's side as he played dirty both Scoob and Welma. Still she was pretty horrible and controlling.

You know what really annoys me? The Zombie island and 13 ghost sequels basically create this bait designed to say "BUT MAYBE IT WAS ACTUALLY REAL!" at the last second.
The direct to vhs quadrilogy worked because they were supposed to be sequels to the original show from the 70s and give a sense of finality. These last few cases where the gang faced real monsters that felt like it was made as a goodbye to kids who would have been catching re-runs on CN and were about to start growing up themselves at the time

I forgot Velma and Shaggy were a thing in one of these Scooby Doo versions. I kind of remember he wasn't in to her but Shaggy wasn't in to anyone in that show. He reminded me of Jughead from Archie. Kids these days would label that something so they can pigeon hole the character. But to me, as a kid, it was just a personality trait. He loved food more than girls.

The whole idea of hooking up Shaggy and Velma is stupid it’s just the epitome of a “pair the spares” ship

Velma desired companionship, not Shaggy. It's why she was constantly trying to change him.
Shaggy was very go with the flow, passive, and clearly not into the relationship. He was willing to do all the ridiculous demands Velma had about his clothes and eating habits, but Scooby was the one thing he'd grow a spine over.

Velma is not desirable.

She’s a third wave feminist, so she probably doesn’t bathe or shave regularly.

She’s also arrogant and opinionated. Unlikely to do anything you want her to. Likely to argue just to argue.

Do you know how many anons would crawl through broken glass for a stinky hairy girl to be mean to them?

because of Scooby

well that sounds like homosexuality metaphor

The Mystery Inc. characters were patterned off of the old Dobie Gillis TV show. Fred was based on Dobie Gillis, Shaggy was based on Dobie's beatnik friend Maynard G. Krebs, and Daphne and Velma were basted on their respective girlfriends.

So Shaggy and Velma were meant to be the "quirky couple" to contrast with Fred and Daphne being the "conventional couple". For some reason, the show writers forgot about that.

it's just a goof, you take it too serious

Velma is fucking Jhonny Bravo

millenials started shilling lovecraft

zoomers really can't comprehend the world before they were adults can they?
And I don't even mean this as "heh ackshually Lovecraft was writing in the 20/30s", but that the Lovecraft revival started in the 70's and 80's.

I hated the forced shipping bullshit, I just want scooby doo man, don't bring love triangles and bullshit romance into it
