to be fair, Magneto is one of Marvel's most nuanced character and irrespective of how badly they mess up the adaptation it's definitely a character he could be interested in playing
He insists on it having a minimal cast, practical effects, and nailing the source material. Magneto solo movie becomes best movie ever made. Jack Kirby's family receives royalties. Everyone wins.

Naw. It's the money. Daniel Day Lewis doesn't really strike me as a comic book guy so I doubt he's aware of any comic book character outside of Ian Mckellan's portrayal, maybe Fassbender. DDL was and is notoriously picky about the movies he's in partly because he's kind of a snob and also because he's a notorious method actor and likes to immerse himself in his character's world for months ahead of filming. He normally wouldn't take a role unless he had a script he liked before filming starts so he can get in character and mcu movies are notorious about not having a script finished untill way late into production cycle and sometimes well into filming.
So either one of two things happened. Either fiege has an Oscar worthy x men script that lured Daniel day Lewis out of his hidey hole and they're offering him a shit load of money and DDL is running low on cocaine to do lines off of his oscars.

It's not a hard problem. In fact it's not a problem at all. Secondary mutations are a thing with mutants, so why stress about it? For example Emma Frost's primary mutation is her telepathy, yet she can also make her skin diamond. Same could be said about Nightcrawler's primary mutation being teleportation, and his secondary being his appearance.
So Magneto having slow aging/longer lifespan in addition to magnetism isn't that big of a deal
