Why do you like Marvel more than DC?
Why do you like Marvel more than DC?
Marvel has the HULK!!
Based.
DC is better.
Nah.
FPBP.
I was about to call you a goddamn liar OP, but then I thought about it and can't deny it. It's not that Marvel is good. It's shit. But just like DC, there's a few crumbs of shit I don't entirely hate in it. It's just that it feels like the things I hate are easier to ignore, even if I don't feel as strongly about the things I like. Everything feeling generally more disconnected works in Marvel's favour when both capeshit sources are at rock bottom with no hope in sight, I suppose.
Lower highs, but also higher lows.
marvel offers a cohesive work primarily made by the same 5 people within a span of a decade.
DC has Gardner Fox tying things together but there's too much cognitive dissonance and there's too much redundancy among the characters.
I like the color red.
This.
Jim Shooter's tenure as EiC
there's too much redundancy among the characters.
If only they stopped being turboberds for once and removed those characters and streamline the ideas, instead of conjuring up convoluted explanations to make everything fit.
Me love X-Men and MvC
Marvel is an exploitation rag.
Everything after Bob Harras doesn't feel official.
The Villains, aliens and monsters mainly....though also cause the cartoons and video games got me hooked onto Marvel.
Based Hulkbro.
Retard.
Marvel has class.
Kek.
Bendis?
Who else?
Kek.
Peter Parker could have saved her.
DC is carried by Batman and to a much lesser extent Superman. Yeah, its the normalfag opinion, but they're correct in this case. Without Batman, the Arkham games, etc, they'd be dead in the water.
This is a Marvel thread.
GODvel is based. DC is cringe.
normalfags actually like this character
normalfags are actually excited they're bringing her back in the MCU, so comics will likely follow suit because LOLSYNERGY
Fucking grim.
inb4 normalfags don't know about her
Sadly they do now, thanks to the equally awful Netflix show.
She's very relatable to the ArtHoe & BPDemon crowd.
ArtHoe & BPDemon crowd
None of those people are normal nor are they considered as such by actual normal people. Twitter isn't real life.
Women aren't people.
True.
Kek.
X-Men TAS was the first one I watched. That shit conditions you for decades.
Thor is great. Prefer him over Superman.
How do you feel about Donald Blake?
DC treats Superman with more respect than Marvel gives Thor
Like him too. Shame what Cates did to him.
Cartoons were about even for me. I liked DCAU as much as I liked X-Men TAS and Spider-Man equally.
Spider-mania of early 2000s was what completely shifted the balance for me.
The pre-OMD comics, the movies, the cartoons, the videogames. It's hard to walk away from this unscathed.
I dont.
Everyone loves Thor.
Bros.....
I barely care about Marvel nowadays, especially Spiderman. Hes been fucked too much at this point. I'm only interested in Daredevil and Hulk lately, maybe F4 too.
Kek.
Same, but Moon Knight for me.
I like Spidey.
Fippy bippy.
Marvel feels like Coke while DC feels like Pepsi.
True.
Tribalism.
I don't.
I do.
Same.
They had better themes for the main heroes, and they aren't forced to do dark stories, at least not as much as DC. That gets boring
Yeah, dark is the default for Marvel, DC has to force itself into it, it's unnatural.
Because x-men, spider-man and hulk.
Also The punisher, Ghost rider and venom are the wolverine, hulk and spider-man of the 1990s
suspicious:
Real honest to God reason: I got exposed to Marvel earlier. Raimi and early MCU got me hooked.
Decades of lore spent establishing the Marvel reality as a cynical and often grim reflection of the real world, in direct contrast with DC which is presented as a fantastical, idealistic universe
TDK trilogy and the MCU coming around at the same time makes irreparable damage by making audiences think DC is edgy and Marvel lighthearted
Agreed.
Stan Lee's Marvel wasn't dark, just deeply misanthropic.
DC first went dark in 1986 to compete with Marvel, though it tried to be a more mature and sophisticated dark. Darker still in the mid-90s before lightening up with a neo-silver age revival. Then full on edge in the early/mid-00s with Didio.
Based.
TDK
Why people think it's some dark and edgy film I will never understand.
For fuck's sake, it had plenty of quips and that corny as hell ferry scene with "people believe in good" that wouldn't look out of place in a cartoon.
/thread/
Only reason TDK isn't R is because it has no blood or swearing, it's not a kids' movie. Burton's Batman films were considered dark Batman movies for their time and they're so much campier and kid-friendly by comparison.
I kneel....
WRONG
More nuanced characters.
Better and more varied designs.
More interesting powers.
Oh no I have a bum leg & the rent is due!
Burton's Batman films were considered dark Batman movies for their time
Only because the most recent comparison was Adam West's show. Otherwise they weren't very dark either.
In case of Batman Returns, the real questionable thing is dialogue. Feels like it's written by somebody extremely horny and sex-starved. You won't hear that kind of shit in any kind of modern superhero movie.
it's not a kids' movie
It's not even darker than some of the animated movies DC has made over the years. Under The Red Hood alone feels a lot more likely to traumatize a child than any of the Nolan's movies.
The parents' reception to Batman Returns was so bad that they pivoted hard into camp with Batman Forever. They did not like Penguin being so grotesque or the level of violence in it.
It's not even darker than some of the animated movies DC has made over the years. Under The Red Hood alone feels a lot more likely to traumatize a child than any of the Nolan's movies.
Under the Hood doesn't really have any scary moments in it, except for Robin getting beaten in the beginning. All of Nolan's movies have scenes that a young kid would not enjoy watching.
All of Nolan's movies have scenes that a young kid would not enjoy watching.
This, Watching Nolan Batman is like watching Law & Order with your grandma.
DC doesn't have Carol Danvers
Carol is shit.
I hope Mar-vell comes back.
What the fuck is DC anyway? They’d be better off calling it AOL Comics. At least people know what AOL is. I mean, they have Batman and Superman, and they don’t know what to do with them. That’s like being a porn star with the biggest dick and you can’t get it up. What the fuck?
Don't worry, Zaslav will sell it soon.
Is it a coincidence she has the same last name as Supergirl and the same first name as Hal's aerospace company owner gf, both of whom predate her
Really, nigga?
decapitated mobsters
the way Joker gloats about about killing a child which could probably sound very unnerving if you're young
setting somebody on fire on-screen
one of the cyborg assassins whose head gets exploded on-screen.
the ending with the implication that Joker survived and will be free to kill again soon enough, while Jason is probably dead or heavily injured
Nolan's edge is just general tame action movie kind. It's nothing you wouldn't see in a 90s action movie and is even close to being scary.
They don't reset the continuity of characters I care about every ten years. I still don't have any clue what Wonder Woman's origin is because of the current "it's all canon!!!" tripe.
Nolan's edge is just general tame action movie kind. It's nothing you wouldn't see in a 90s action movie and is even close to being scary.
A lot of Scarecrow/Joker/Bane scenes are directed like a horror film. For all its edgy moments, Under the Hood isn't.
I barely care about Marvel nowadays, especially Spiderman
I stopped caring about Spider-Man when I realized he was just a self insert for nerds.
like a horror film
That means absolutely nothing. Children can watch horror movies just fine and all those "horror" moments are milquetoast at their very best.
Age-appropriate horror films, Nolan's films aren't. You're thinking from the perspective of an adult, not a small child who is mentally incapable of telling fantasy from reality.
Age-appropriate horror films
Nigger, do you really think Nolan's dull shit is anywhere near close to shit kids watched in the 90s? Lmao
The real reason a kid would not enjoy Law & Order is because it's the most boring show imaginable, not because it's dark.
unironically, they tend to have better sci fi.
They also have the whole street level thing down to an extent DC can't even dream of. Their biggest street level was Batman who can no longer be considered such, while other comics can only shine as parodies ie hitman / justive league unlimited or are highly "formal" or political ie green arrow.
DC still has better quality single run comics than Marvel ever had, Vertigo > Epic any time, any day.
Yes it is
Based.
All modern comics suck. But when it was good Marvel wrote characters that were actual people not gods. Also Marvel has more interesting characters with better designs and abilities. The X-Men alone are cooler than all of DC combined.
Zero good comics.
Yeah. Here's what the MPAA has to say about it, an organization whose purpose is to appease parents and protect kids.
Batman Returns
Rated PG-13 for brooding, dark violence.
Under the Red Hood
Rated PG-13 for violent content and some drug references.
Batman Begins
Rated PG-13 for intense action violence, disturbing images and some thematic elements.
The Dark Knight
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and some menace.
The Dark Knight Rises
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language.
"Intense violence" "disturbing images" and "menace" are specifically called out as reasons it got the rating it did. With Red Hood it's just "violent content and some drug references."
Many good comics.
Oh and all the insane history of DC that gets constantly reset that you're somehow supposed to know or care about is complete bullshit.
I don't. Fuck Tom Cuckvoort, Cuckbelski, and NIgg Lowe.
The sci-fi pivot is something I've taken notice to also. I'm not really into DC but as far as I know, magic is a really prominant feature, while the MU works mostly on a science/cosmic structure, and magic, while present, has a far less prominant role.
X-Men is awful.
Marvel has the HULK!!
But still never forget.
youtube.com
MCU
CHADmics Hulk is still good.
What exactly is the "disturbing imagery" in Begins, though?
Five seconds of Jeepers Creepers' Batman and (admittedly cool) fire-breathing horse created by Scarecrow's Toxin? I actually watched Begins when I was in high school and nothing about it was too shocking or disturbing.
They even softened things up in some places, like making Zsasz a generic mob hitman, a trend that keeps plaguing the adaptations involving this character because I guess an insane serial killer who's comparatively realistic and grounded would be too scary in a superhero movie so they keep making him a more "palatable" gun for hire.
I remember when I was a kid and I watched the Fantastic Four and X-Men movies, also the first comic book movie (before the Live Action ones) that I bought was an Iron Man one.
Civil War was my first comic book event that I read. Avengers vs. X-Men was the first event that I read while it was happening.
DC has its good points of course, but it was Marvel who got me into comics.
Bull X-Men is fucking GOOD spider-man on the on the other hand is pure crap. Hell he sold his fucking marriage to mephisto
X-Men is shit because it was always shit. Spider-Man used to be good at one point.
X-Men is good when they don't focus on The Metaphor and embrace its pulpiness.
Spider-Man has been shit for a long this is how it should have ended. Peter and and Gwen should have gotten married norman renew his relationship with harry. And MJ remain a party girl.
When they focus on the metaphor, it's hokey, but when they go full pulp, it's haphazard. It's shit no matter which way they turn.
The funny thing is that the first DC/Marvel comics I read were actually John Byrne's Superman comics, and I actually got a lot out of them. But they were so damn boring. Probably that, plus the Superman animated series, created a preconceived idea in my mind that DC is boring and not worth it.
Peter and MJ can go both to hell for selling their marriage to Mephisto
X-Men is shit because it was always shit.
You never read the phoenix saga or new X-Men right?
Shame.
8:37PM
Time in Kraków, Poland
Kek.
Better villains.
I don't.
Yeah you were a teenager, the right age to watch it. These warnings are for children under the age of 13.
Based Hulkposter.
And I still wouldn't have been impressed even if I were below 12.
Still no answer, though. What's that disturbing imagery in Nolan's Batman?
The Scarecrow scenes.
If you have kids you're going to end up giving them some bad memories.
Interesting
Joe Quesada and the rest of the Spider-Man editorial are going to Hell, and they're going to burn there eternally.
No batwank
Hi gothman plotu
Its because ledger died & idiots think that happened because he "was" the joker. Truth is tdk is a mediocre film at best if you don't view it thru the "oh Heath ledger died" glasses
I don't care, I just follow writers and artists around
real relatable shit vs spandex superbabies
Jeez, i dont know why DC is always on the losing side
The mpaa is inconsistent as fuck & using them as a source to justify something is laughable. Nudity and violence use to be common place in pg movies that kids routinely watched. Thinking tdk is some dark film is idiotic unless you grew up in an isolated fairyland
You have no theory of mind of how a young child thinks. A lot of kids over the years talk about how the boat ride in Willy Wonka and the rabbit fights in Watership Down traumatized them. The scary scenes in Nolan's bat films would give them just as hard of a time.
I have never once cared for Batman, I don't read Batman or watch it wither. DC is all about Batman and making goddamn sure Batman is front and center of every event and always in charge. When other books are not being cancelled to make room for a 14 Bat monthly.
Marvel will actually publish more than three characters on occasion.
I started reading comics during Annihilation and then kept up with stuff like War of Kings, Guardians, Nova etc. I really liked how Marvel had a good collection of space characters. I never gave a shit about Earth stuff, I want over the top characters punching space gods on weird planets etc. Even though Marvel has really slowed down on this in recent years.
DC is too damn glued to Earth, half of their space characters still stick to Earth 90% of the time. They have very little going on in space, and when they finally get something it is incredibly short lived and the characters are either depowered and go back to Earth or they just sit around on Earth fighting low level villains every week. Green Lantern is about as good as it gets with DC space stuff and the notable GLS are entirely humans that never ever leave Earth at all. JLA Odyssey was pretty much it for me, I liked that and now all JLA teams are back on fucking Earth again... Hawkgirl is kinda sorta in space, but then she got a monthly book and it was starring the fucking Earth based Hawkgirl instead.
I honestly swear marvel seems to be bent on making more and more characters mutants. Hell they even made 616 Gwen Stacy one I guess this means she never really "died".
I started reading comics during Annihilation
You must be 18 to post here
Zoom zoom the fuck out of here underage nigger
lol i've got bad news for you
That's more a return to form than a new thing. they were doing this back in the 90s too when all things X-Men were fucking huge. They casually hinted around that technically all heroes are actually mutants too but it was cosmic radiation, radioactive spiders or terregen that activated a latent mutant gene.
Annihilation happened 17 years ago.
If that anon started reading at age 1 they would be old enough to post here.
What year do you think it is?
Annihilation happened 17 years ago.
2006
Because DC's constant multiverse wide reboots killed my interest in their product.
Silver Age DC was the best period of DC
