Was the fan reaction to this episode justified? Writers were getting death threats and people were threatening to blow up the studio.

Something something Heckin Pupperino Pizzarino something something

people were threatening to blow up the studio

over a dog dying in an animated sitcom

Us cartoon fans don’t deserve to be taken seriously by society.

That didn't happen. Stop making shit up and castrate yourself

It was too contrived, like there's a part where Fry's family walks past the capsule and totally ignores the dark barking at it, just rtificial feefees to tug the heartstrings unnaturally

Wasn't the original plot gonna be Fry's mom fossilized but they changed it to being about a dog to make it LESS depressing?

Isn't his mother a cunt? No one would have cared.

It was too contrived

Can't the same be said of most Futurama Emotional moments?

Reddit thought it was sad

Seymour's Original Episode

Philip J. Fry, the Original Martian

Leela meets her Parents

These all packed a sincere emotional punch and were quality storytelling. Almost everything else has been contrived and cringe. The holographic flute thing was cute, but kind of meh, but everything else? No. Especially after they started bringing it back. Stuff like Hermes and Bender's origin story and Fry's actual Mom episode was an obvious attempt at recapturing the magic that just fell flat.

it's just Hachiko

Why are you still waiting for Fry to come back, Seymour?

They probably would've done what they did with his other family episodes and recontextualize their relationship especially after he died. It probably would've been closer to Game of Tones because I can't imagine they just have Fry say "well she probably just stopped caring" like maybe they find out she was dying anyways when she was Fast Fossilized so Fry literally just wakes her up in her final moments to say he was okay so she can die at peace after decades of worrying.

you asked chat gpt about this nonsense, did you?

And they didn't do it?! fucking cowards. This is why stuff like PPG 2016 and Teen Titans Go exists.

Remember that Seymour was taken care of by Lars so he was never alone in the first place

Mr. Panucci actually cooked and served him in a pizza.

Luck of the Fryrish is a better episode

This is largely my thought. I thought the Bender origin story "worked," but it was mostly the good choice of music and it's hard to escape the feeling it's just trying to recapture the magic of those three original, emotional gut punch episodes. Which inherently makes it not work as well.

I'm pretty sure "Philip J. Fry, the Original Martian" was the first one, and it was very effective because of that. Seymour's is sort of different because it was actually the reverse: the reveal of "Philip J. Fry," is tragic, but ultimately uplifting because it was about how Fry's brother genuinely loved him and remembered him when he was gone. Seymour's is the same, but renders it much, much more tragic: Fry assumes he lived a long, happy dog life, but the reveal is he spent all of it just waiting for Fry to come back and then we pretty much watch him fucking die.

Leela's parents is much more like Fry's brother, in that it's about recasting a painful memory into a happier one, and not one I remember quite as fondly as the first two. Because it is, ultimately, mostly just a rehash of that and a bit more, like, convoluted, relying as it does on the comedic, Judge Dredd goofiness of the future (mutants are outcast by aliens are fine).

So with that one already feeling kind of lesser, we end up with the further retreads continuing to lose their luster.

Anon, Game of Tones will explain everything and it is coincidentally the best episode in all of Futurama

Shut up faggot

awww, cute doggie !

I've seen cuter I'm sure

Normalfags melt down over fictional Hachiko copy

I preferred Amy

Also valid, they're both baddies~

lel

More adult cartoons should center on an exclusively adult cast of friends/co-workers. Why are almost all of them family sitcoms?

Philip?!

I want to lick all the sweat off her body

Amy would probably let you, too.

Post more Leela and Amy.

There are many reasons to hate on Hulurama, but one I find especially unforgivable is how they utterly failed to tug at our heartstrings with that Mrs. Fry birthday episode. The episode concept was already stupid, but the ending reveal somehow made things even stupider. I can only *consider* forgiving it because the song choice was fire: youtu.be/qGg-hitVZKQ

jurassic bark is forced soul
luck of the fryrish is genuine soul

Her personality sucks balls.

I don’t get why they couldn’t focus on her more beyond Kif stuff.

Her personality sucks balls

Leela is "I Can Fix Him" personified.

As a hopeless manchild, I find that attractive. I would do everything in my power for someone who believes that I can go through self-improvement.

wtf

Leela is "I Can Fix Him" personified.

No, sh absolutely isn't, now has it ever been her intend when she settled with Fry. The fuck are you on?

Writers were getting death threats and people were threatening to blow up the studio.

really? first i'm hearing of this and i've been a fan of Futurama for a long time.
