I just found this show and finished it pretty quickly. Hell of a ride. What did everyone think?
Pantheon Thread anyone?
meh
It was super hyped by Anon Babble
Holy shit what a letdown is all you need to please Anon Babble a lack of gays and brown people and the show is a 10/10
I watched the first season over the weekend and found it very disappointing. Didn't even bother with the second
an odd take. do you just have really high standards that no other show meets either?
huh, I missed that hype entirely. Anon Babble has become kinda shitty. And it sounds like it still is, what are you talking about? Hell they even had the requisite hijab-where-hijabs-do-not-go moment.
huh. I dunno what you expected in 2023.
Heyy you're right. it didn't have gays in it, did it?
God I don't even notice, I'm still stuck in the past. Thank god that can still happen.
There's kind of three stages to the scifi in this show, at different quality levels:
-The world at large, the hardness of the tech, pretty good.
-The state of 'cyberspace' and what goes on in it, pretty soft. More about being cool than realistic.
-Toward the end, it felt like maybe they weren't quite worrying as hard. I can accept the timescales and the massive scale of shit that went on, but the inbetween, the world of 2040, I don't buy easily. A lot of it felt kind of untenable, but particularly the idea that the orbital ring was going to somehow provide near-limitless power AND cooling for the CI servers. Power? I mean solar panels are nice and all, but, you really need nuclear reactors.. cooling? Space is the best insulator there is. Despite it being 4 degrees away from absolute zero, it takes 36 hours for your body to actually freeze in space (you'd be dead a lot sooner, but not frozen) It's the absolute worst place to put a computer. There's a reason they were in Norway earlier.
tfw no mist gf
Heyy you're right. it didn't have gays in it, did it?
I wonder if that's why the show got canceled with season 2 as a tax writeoff. Not enough blackrock money.
Dont listen to contrainfags. Its peak. I just wish season 2 was 12 episodes instead of 8. Would love to see the 20 year time skip fleshed out more along with MIST and better closer on some side characters.
Mist is a fucking cutie pie. I wish we'd gotten a bit more with her. I want a cute digital little sister.
youd think they would have loved the subplot about an israeli defecting to the enemy to stop the "occupation"
sorry i don't know what blackrock is but i assume they hate jews.
I like how they just gave Caspian Spike's hair and didn't even blink, like when Pokémon gave Satoshi Goku's hair. Fuckit, it looks good. let him have it. And it sets him apart from young Stephen. Which makes it even more meaningful when he loses it at the end to save everyone.
Caspian is literally me if I weren't retarded
I felt for him vicariously when he had a cute weird girlfriend. broke my heart when it was fake
did it bug anyone else that Stephen's real gf looked like that in the 80s? Seems a bit anachronistic. Yeah punk existed but she was hardly punk.
The very first scene is more fun knowing how the series ends.
it's funny, it kinda feels largely like a show that wouldn't be good to rewatch since so much of it is the excitement of what's next? buuut there are a lot of scenes whose context totally changes later. I didn't even pick up on who some people were in their important early scenes, since we're hit with so many characters so quickly.

that recent cod does this too for the 90s, many characters dont look like they belong in the period despite being labeled as "punk". i dont know why they are starting to do this more often
it bugs me as much as when people rope
shaving-half-the-hair-and-dying-one-streak-and-looking-like-your-stepdad-raped-you
in with
coloring-the-entire-head-and-looking-like-anime
those are drastically different things
The jew and the iranian kinda make a gay baby in season 2
Being uploaded sounds attractive but yeah, how do I know it's me out there and not just a copy of me running around the cloud while the real me rots with an empty skull?
Also Chanda being uploaded was pretty creepy, well done scene.
It IS just a copy of you while the real you got vaporized. That’s why they call it “die now, live forever.” You still have to do the die now part.
Yeah I'm not a fan. If I'm going, I'm going.
hahaha no, they did the fusion dance
that part was beautiful. they were desperate and admitted their deep secrets and worked together, because neither of them wants tons of people to die.
it's really amazing what a -shitty- judge of humanity stephen was. like cripplingly out of touch. but his gf being killed right before he was gonna lose his v-card and move away from his shitty house.. that would mess with anyone.
i liked that they didn't have any kind of confusion there, they were fully aware they were copies. and they could even have copies of the copies...
but for the most part, they were NOT leaving copies of themselves as they tranferred to new drives or servers, even though that is typically how it works. Same kinda shit with the holodoc from Voyager.
I mean shit, if we could make that cyber world where you can be whatever you want, you could just VR in there. they already had incredible tech for that, somehow. no nausea, full haptic feedback.. shit was cash. might as well stay flesh.
right before he was gonna lose his v-card
That was not gonna be his first time.
it felt like it to me. at least they were gonna bang.
Maddie told Lil Dave to just do that, but Lil Dave still didnt think that was good enough, because all of his uploaded buddies and relatives were living life hundreds of times faster than his meat brain could keep up with.
And the UIs should be able to work really fast at fixing disease and injury too.
yeah there is that part
but conversely, if we all just went in VRwise, we wouldn't have to worry about that.
that's what computershit should be letting you escape. the drudgery of life, not life itself.
oh yeah the UIs cured cancer.. that is pretty big. it's like, the more they did, the fewer people NEEDED to upload.
oh yeah the UIs cured cancer.. that is pretty big. it's like, the more they did, the fewer people NEEDED to upload.
Which is the point Chanda made early on iirc, the UIs could work to fix and handle everything. That became slavery, but still...
Both seasons??
Yep bofe.
I couldn't look away, so many twists and turns. i'm a sucker for that shit.
also Anon Babble showed me the screenshot of Maddie in bed and I was like aww yeah
I think the first season is fine if not good but the show gets to its peak in second season. Which is why it makes me sad Netflix only has season 1 available. It even has a fulfilling enough ending in season 1 that people can stop there and think that's the end.
I can't join this thread, wasted a whole day trying to order a pantheon commission from a fairly cheap artist, then they suddenly flaked out told me they were "too busy" after we agreed on everything, I'm fucking pissed
oh yeah i heard aboot that, fucking oceania are the only ones who get to watch it legally
insane. but that's what you get when you let corporations dodge taxes by locking off access to the sweat of people's brow.
That's the issue with smaller artists. Cheaper yes. But they have less of a reputation to keep up.
sucks ass dude. but at least you didn't already pay, right?
also that artist isn't a they. "some artist" is a they.
i could maybe draw it for you. i'm not quite as good as this show's style yet but.. close.
I watched the entire first season in a day. After the third episode, I was completely hooked. This was two years ago and season two took so long and limited that the hype died out for me, especially since no one ever talked about it outside of here. I'm rewatching the first season now that it's on Netflix and can hopefully finish the series by the end of the week.
the new UI world is neat but I have some logistical issues with it, kind of the same as star trek suggesting all these people will work for free.
yeah a UI can speed up to a million times faster than usual, but to them, they still FEEL the years pass as they labor on creating whatever, right? most people wouldn't bother.. they'd just build a pleasure button and press it. the currency here is somehow speed, not pleasure.
You wouldn't download an indian.
the iranian
That dude is gay now? The last time I watch the show I thought he's in relationship with that hot bong lass
so you're going to start over and then watch season 2 for the first time?
because there's a lot of spoilers in here
i like how both him and uhhh Peter was it? the least-evil guy at logarithms.... both of them grew rockin long hair in cyberspace because why the hell not
tfw his uploading scene
Sweet Christ that was a hard watch
yeahhhh that's the only thing making me worry about recommending it to my mom. especially since they repeat it a few more times when he shows people.
but it works for the plot, and it wasn't THAT bad compared to how it could have been.
What amazed me is how we left the world of 2043 in such a shambled mess and we never find out what happens, because in the end... it doesn't matter.
No one likes a girl who's weight and IQ are both over 115
Lads....I think I'm in love
because there's a lot of spoilers in here
I largely just skim through threads to avoid blatant details. If I see something that may look like a spoiler, I just skip it. I think it's worked so far for me.
Some spoilers I know about are:
Maddie gets railed
Caspian dies?
Maddie's daughter is named Mist, who some anons apparently think is a cute
And that's kinda it.
I've got threads saved up from when season two first came out that I plan to finally read through after finishing
american anime?
she was kind of great
she's a little exercise away from being a top tier bro chick
Let me just say, without spoiling, that some of what you saw is actually not right. so keep your mind open.
it's trying
there's also an excellent GitS reference or two
some of what you saw is actually not right
That's what I hope for. Rewatching has revitalizing my interest so I'll know for sure soon.
i have actually had some amazing experiences from getting mistaken spoilers, usually in videogames. the only thing better than going in blind is having a misconception so you get a real surprise.
