Sometimes I think of how much potential has been wasted from Disney neglecting it's 2D animation arm for so long, but at the same time I can't help but feel happy for the animators that can actually do what they want without having to make baby cartoon 500,000, tax write off 200, or having the thing worked on for 3 years shelved.

Steven universe fight scenes are so floaty and non impactful, it pisses me off because it had potential with all the powers the characters has but they just fight like some kid using his action figures because they can't even use any energy blasts or other elementals because of bad choreography, bad setup, bad impact, bad usage of powers, powerscaling is heavy inconsistent meaning I don't fear the outcome or consequences of the fight; you could say Steven universe isn't meant to "be an action show" because Rebecca and the crew jerk themselves om the relationships aspect, but then why include aliens in the first place, why include the cluster arc, why include the whole diamond authority bullshit, why even make it animation at this point, these showrunners "love animation" but don't fully take control of the mediums strengths
Look at this fight for example, blonde has portal rings and the pink guy has ice powers, I'd this was Steven universe crew animating this, it would be both of them pushing each other aimlessly, a few hits there, a rare usage of thier powers (because le budget), if there was any power usage, it wouldn't be impactful or use the abilities to it fullest extent, like the oink guy would just use it as a mere projectile rather than the versatile use it has on this animation, portal guy would just be used as a gag rather than a serious opponent; heck, the tension here on this fight is far more than I had than anything in Steven universe, and it had talks of omnicide and parental abuse but the characters are too much of a talking head that I didn't give a fuck as much as this cool animation

Choreography makes a fight scene, not just animation. I'd actually say the animation here is kinda choppy.
The best choreographies are usually made by literally 1 (one) person. Takes a real creative to make one.
