In all honesty, they shouldn't be, but they tend to charge higher rates since a lot of writers are doing it as a side gig (that they want to turn into their main job) whereas artists usually have rich parents backing them, and just want the extra money due to living in expensive cities. Writing is also faster to shit out than art is, and because of the lack of public competition or any management over what prices should ideally be like, you get writers going "gimme $40 for a thousand words".
