I really can't understand why people buy modern comics. I mostly read old stuff, usually 60s/70s. And even if they were 22 pages, they had a lot of content. Sometimes I check storytime threads, and I'm surprised to see the few content there is. Plus the mediocre art and disgusting coloring. And stories and dialogue also sucks. Why would you waste your money buying comics???

We all know the real reason is because characters like Joker are too popular to kill off but if you want an in-universe reason than it's because he has a deep-seated compulsion to never see anyone die that is rooted in his origin story.

Not his job, he stops crime, the people of Gotham could just have him executed or a cop could shoot him while in custody. There are so many opportunities to kill the Joker between Batman handing him off and him escaping again. Batman doesn’t exist in a vacuum. If he is solely responsible for putting an end to the Joker then that means no one in Gotham has any character or freedom outside of being an extension of Batman and his villains.
