Adventure Time

Something I really appreciate about AT is that no matter how long it goes, no matter how seriously it takes itself, it never under any circumstances stops being aggressively weird.

For being the final girl, and the one Finn is pretty much destined to get with (looking at all the AUs), Huntress Wizard didn't get enough screen time. She should have been introduced properly way earlier, interacting with the cast in meaningful ways, should have had more adventures with Finn throughout the seasons (or even fights, she's a fey nature wizard, her and Finn's goals could have been at odds sometimes), and maybe towards the end they'd have hooked up.

We never see that ridiculous bass again. Shame.

I've never watched it before but I recently watched Fionna and Cake with my kid and we both very much enjoyed it. The missus less so.
I was surprised by how good the animation is despite the character designs being so simplistic.
The story-telling style reminded me of the weirdness and grand scale of 80s cartoons I watched growing up.
Fionna was recommended to me and the missus by another kid's parents after I brought up how I don't think cartoons these days are as engrossing as ones we had as children except Hilda and Infinity Train (we still haven't watched IT with our kid but I watched it on my own; I guess he's old enough for it now) and the recommended AT and FC both. Since FC is a single season and I was assured we didn't really need to watch AT to appreciate it, I decided to give that a go and, if we liked it, to try the original.
I'm guessing Adventure Time has a less older-kids theme than Fionna and Cake does, yeah? We were warned FC is more mature, with blood and mild language but it turns out it was nothing our son couldn't handle. He was more freaked out by the spiderfrog from Hilda than anything in FC.
So should we give Adventure Time a go?

Yes

Pretty much the only real difference between Adventure Time and its sequel series is that the latter is on a streaming service, and is thus able to get away with mild blood and cussing. Otherwise, you're getting just about the same thing.

Very well. Thanks and thanks for reading my blog. We'll start with ep 1 tomorrow after services. And when I said "recently watched" I mean we just finished Fionna a few hours ago shortly after lunch so the show world will still be in my kid's mind

Feels like Fionna and Cake would be pretty confusing with how many subplots from the original show it referenced.

I think Adventure Time is worth a go if you're curious and can appreciate that it's a weird kid's show, but the tone and themes of it all can vary a lot between seasons.

I definitely understood that there were things I would have better understood had we started with AT but I watched TV show episodes and movies out of order all the time in the 80s and 90s because if you missed one, you were SoL until the next time it aired. I didn't mind it and hoped my kid wouldn't either, and he didn't, considering how absolutely silent he was any time I put an episode on over the last two weeks.
I enjoyed watching the episodes I missed and having the blanks filled in.

oh, so THAT'S what that meant!

That sorta thing.

wanted to marry an underage girl

Unironically how did they get away with it?

It's okay when villains do creepy shit. Cause they're villains.

I meant that his design looks like a black racial caricature.

No? He looks like a weird goat man.

You're gonna experience what everyone that watches influencial shows too late experiences. The things the show introduced will appear quaint by today's standards and you're gonna get tired it it. But by all means give it a shot

He has darkk skin and donut lips

That's hardly true. I've watched several other old cartoons and TV shows I've never seen before then and liked them. Not everyone is you.
Or do you think I was born in the 1940s for me to appreciate the old Looney Tunes and Disney shorts?

why are you arguing about someone's opinion, either listen to it or don't you fucking cretin.

she doesn't know what an opinion is

lmao
You're going to kill yourself tomorrow <--- statement of fact.
I think you should kill yourself tomorrow <--- an opinion.
Nothing in qualifies as an opinion, sweetheart.

obviously they didn't plan it from the start and made it up as they went along

Yeah, it could have been so much more had it been built up properly. As is, it kinda does what the writers originally wanted to avoid with Marceline and BB (making Huntress Wizard mostly defined by her relationship with Finn).

I think that was true of the original run but both Distant Lands and F+C feel a lot more "conventional" in a way that I can't quite articulate

yeah one of my favorite things in this show are when characters do weird shit and no one really acknowledges it or explains it, they just act like its normal.

Something I really appreciate about AT is that MC ended as a pathetic unloved virgin beta male soiboy cuck

F&C literally confirms adult Finn is a monster slayer and HW pussy slayer

Cool fanfic

I might do a sketch or two later on, anyone got requests?

Ice King would never.

How about Huntress Wizard as a Princess?
