What happened to the kids in south park actually acting like kids? Mispronouncing words and not understanding adult concepts was heavily prominent in the earlier seasons.
What happened to the kids in south park actually acting like kids...
We get it, dude. You prefer early South Park. Just rewatch the early seasons all you want.
Being topical makes more money.
simpsons did the same thing
I do watch the early seasons. What's the problem with what I said though? I just find it interesting the way things changed and I wonder why they ditched the concept, if it was done on purpose or if they just forgot.
WHERE IS THE NEW SEASON, PARKER?
I NEED PICTURES, PICTURES OF THE NEW SEASON.
Didn’t you see the new trailer?
After spend 20 years bragging about how easy it is to have a full South Park episode made in less than a week. How it's the fastest animated show on tv and the secret to how they can be so topical, etc.
It now takes them 2-3 years to get a couple of episodes made.
They’re doing a lot of other shit now. They bought, rebuilt and now run Casa Bonita and are working on a movie.
And apparently the footage from the new trailer is from what was supposed to be another Paramount+ special.
They grew up. Like the "fans" of this show need to do before they can understand the jokes. Do you guys even watch the show or is it a Family Guy situation where you saw clips on TikTok?
A genuine question.
Remember when you could watch literally any and every episode (except 200 and 201 of course) for free on southparkstudios.com? I miss those days
What’s funny is that the whole reason Matt and Trey did that was to honor the message of the episode “Christian Rock Hard”.
But they didn't grow up, they're still children. I do not watch new episodes of the show, I will try and I can only get about 5 minutes into an episode before I realize how old and depressing the show is. Nobody uses tiktok except for women and children and maybe older guys who think that tiktok is something that all young people use.
Huh, didn't know that, actually. Figured it was standard Viacom practice at the time, considering you could also watch every episode of 1000 Ways to Die for free on the Spike website.
it was so much cuter
they didn't 'grow up' though, they're only one year older than they were in the first season.
Like the "fans" of this show need to do before they can understand the jokes
the "jokes" in the modern show are hollywood liberal "punching up" trash without a hint of edge
I'm guessing Matt and Trey just started making their characters mouthpieces for whatever news or topic they wanna cover, and that pisses me off because it's basically flanderization
I now need JJJ & Trey Parker in one room.
I never watched southpark till like last year. Up to season 12 now. How were the early season received at the time they came out? The first three weren't bad but they don't hold up as well.
But that's because I'm watching them on my second monitor in the year 2024-5 and not on a 14 inch CRT in 1997 when there was nothing else like it. Oldfags pls respond
t. born in 1998
Paramount must be pretty angry with them considering Trey and Matt are taking years to fulfill their multi-million dollar contract and shitting out one special a year.
Mispronouncing words and not understanding adult concepts
Just watch Rugrats, since it's probably more your speed.
I think it was season 6-8? One of those. I think they won an Emmy or something and then stopped trying and it all. Became really preachy and obnoxious.
I mean, it's not meant to look good. It's meant to look like its made of craft paper. The early seasons are the best at sticking to the simple aesthetic.
It was a massive success already from the first season. I think I was in 4th or 5th grade when it came out and all my friends were watching it. We loved it. It was basically like the plot of the movie, where the kids go to see the Terrance and Phillip movie and repeat all the new swears.
The first person shooter on N64 was pretty fun for multiplayer too. Not a great game, but a fun alternative to Goldeneye when we wanted to mix things up.
youtube.com
The first season was a topic of discussion on CNN and FoxNews for being really vulgar and how cartoons shouldn't be like this. Why can't cartoons be more like old Hannah Barbara cartoons? That sort of shit.
*born 1988 btw
I referenced the CRT more for the time period than the aesthetic. The style is something they really nailed day 1. I just mean there were a lot more weak episodes in the first 3 seasons or so. But of course they'd be weaker to me, they have lost 99% of the shock value that came from their era.
Damn your parents let you watch it when you were that young? But also I am a little surprised it took off out the gate. But then again there just wasn't anything like it. Still isn't really.
Sidenote I have never seen this game before in my life.
Makes sense. Even the simpsons made old people lose their minds.
Thanks for the first hand perspective. This question could have been googled for sure but I like asking people stuff.
The South Park cast still act like kids, so I don't know what you're goin on about.
Whats wrong with rugrats? I like some later seasons of southpark but I'm just saying it used to be different and it was better.

We all know this is chum for engagement, 'm-member when it was just the kids bros? le sigh...'
engagement
I figured it was an interesting topic. I was watching the episode and I found it interesting since I never really noticed how the characters have changed over time, the kids are much smarter in later seasons than they were early on.
he's saying that's literally it. The baby talk is even worse in later seasons, with them mispronouncing words they've said before, all cause the head Karen won full creative control by making some of the guys quit and always wanted it to be cutesy slop
I don’t even disagree with the point but this thread gets posted weekly. Talk about beating a dead horse.
flanders got to them
Woops, I was unaware.
SP was never about the visuals, it was always carried by the writing. That's why in the newer seasons they occasionally have these visual gags where part of the joke in the scene is just the characters being shown from a non-standard angle.
The first three weren't bad but they don't hold up as well.
People thought it was just going to be a fad and there were even trade magazines dismissing the South Park movie for showing up so late.
YOU WILL MAKE SOUTH PARK POPULAR AGAIN.
YOU WILL DRAW STENDY AND KENDY ARTWORK.
they're 10 yo in the new seasons? they were 8 before
Kenny is my favorite character but I wish is was more on the spot light
Better send Liane off to a samurai so he can make horse meat out of her
When they were in their early 20s they related to or liked riffing with kid type hijinks more, that tracks. Now that they're in their mid 50s they wanna have some fun with themselves, their generation, or milieu. It's fine. For instance, I know Randy gets on a lotta nerves here, but he is very much a 'type,' I identify and am sad to say sometimes identify with. The mainstreaming of recreational marijuana and the corniness that came with it is well skewered, not some 'duuude weeeed' endorsement some here take it as. And i'm on the east coast, couldn't even imagine being in the thick of it in CO with that type of dude everywhere.
