Why has Marvel been unable to make a Blade reboot?

Blade.jpg - 2233x2969, 1.29M

They can’t grasp the kino of the series

Because they keep shooting themselves in the foot trying to replace him with a woman (his daughter they made up for this purpose)

it’s simply because blade is cool everything about that first movie is just cool and marvel does not want cool anymore

They don't know how to just make a straightforward cool action flick anymore.
Blade is so inherently cool and nuMCU so inherently uncool that even nuMCU feels some kind of disconnect trying to reboot it because every attempt is so blatantly uncool that they just feel something wrong deep in their souls. They themselves will never understand it because of how lame they are, but they feel it, it weirds them out

why does this just feel... WRONG?!

When they reboot it and look back on the original flick.

Because you simply can't meld his story with shit like Spider-Man swinging through NYC. You're telling me the vamps that secretly rule most corporations wouldn't capture Spider-Man to see if they get extra powers from his blood? Basically every single Avenger except for Strange would react catastrophically to finding out there's not only actual goddamn vampires but fucking DRACULA is real and a threat to the whole of humanity, except this one cool black dude is taking on the entire vampire world on his own and somehow none of them has heard of it because the vampires are powerful enough to silence any media after he's gone on a killing spree. You could get a team-up with Frank where he's told about a mob family made up of vampires at the upper echelons but all the other heroes would balk at going on a killing spree with Blade, no matter how much they're told they're soulless vamps who can't be cured.

Introduce Blade and you have to flip the entire fucking universe upside down. Like when they had the whole Shield/Hydra reveal, except even bigger. It just doesn't work and any attempt they've done has failed when they realised that they'd have to isolate it from the MCU at large and then that there's no point in making it then. The only shot they had was if they'd gone full magic reveal after Iron Man died, making Strange the leader and doing magic stories like Shang-Shi and Blade instead of sci-fi stories to differentiate the two phases, but they fucked it up by making the Fantastic Four their big goal and doing all the skrull and super soldier serum shit instead of focusing on supernatural storylines.

Woke faggotry currently prevents cape kino

all the other heroes would balk at going on a killing spree with Blade, no matter how much they're told they're soulless vamps who can't be cured.

This is why superheroes suck.

Blade itself is a deconstructionist movie. It takes the blaxplotation setting of the original and goes with a story that updates and plays on tropes of the genre. It's strange but it was released at the same time as other deconstructionist films with leather clad protagonists. It's not just a good superhero movie, it's a good action movie. I think if they give free reign to the John Wick nigga maybe they'll have a hit. But after the Snyder fiasco I don't know if there's still room for the ''Auteur'' in the Big Budgeted superhero flick

Because there's only one Blade and only ever gonna be one Blade.

Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill.

kino

Kiddy word.

So true

They just wouldn't.

Big Budgeted superhero flick

Why does Blade need a huge budget? Its a black dude in a trenchcoat killing vampires.

Because Blade is black. So to Marvel they need to figure out how Blade's skin colour defines him, missing the point where Blade as he known now is cool regardless of his skin colour. Really if they want to "say something" with Blade being black, they should just take him back to his original 70s blaxploitation roots and have him be a young, struggling BLACK vampire hunter, trying to fight against old, oppressive WHITE vampire groups. But of course Marvel would fail to hamfist it so much that they'd make actual blaxploitation films look nuanced.

They can’t grasp the kino of the series

To be fair, nobody really does. Even Snipes' cameo lost the plot. It was played for laughs and Snipes is much older now, but the point remains that nobody really gets what made Blade movies cool instead of forgettable slop of that era.

/thread

Men did the original. Marvel now is full of women and fags. That's why.

His cameo was fine. He still kicked ass within the limitations of the actor. His jokes weren't cringe either, he was sarcastic, unlike Gambit who had a more childish sense of humour.

Is there even any actor in Hollywood who has a shot at being a new blade? They can't even replace Hugh Jackman as wolverine, they'll pump him full of horse steroids and cgi de-age him before they recast him.

At this point, they can just cast Snipes in the new movie and move their MCU™ version of Blade to the backburner.

That's really the issue. Every writing attempt for a Blade film was exec mandated to have his daughter be the star instead of Blade which pissed the director and star off and had them push back against it causing it to be delayed. Until they get off this idea that there must be an MsheU none of this will have happened

Based entirely on having seen him in Rebel Ridge I think Aaron Pierre could do it. They could even take it back to comic canon and make him British. He sold all the physical fight stunts in that movie very well and they could give him spooky vamp eyes without resorting to contacts.

yfw the mcu circumvents the Jackman Wolverine problem by trying to cater to the people who grew up thinking Daken was a cool character, replacing Jackman with his "son" and "daughter" fighting over his legacy.

Yeah, what's wrong with doing an Old Man Blade movie?

No it's a regular word that leftists are allergic to

leftist

Kiddy word.

I'd rather separate worlds where supernatural shit like Strange, Blade and Ghost Rider reside in one world, whereas sci-fi shit like Spider-Man, X-Men and Fantastic Four are in another. Having them all in one place causes issues. Are angels aliens or not? Is Hell where bad people get sent to or is it just another dimension?

But Blade doesn't age.

No

Kiddy mentality.

TL;DR on the production problems

FEBRUARY 2019 – Mahershala Ali approaches Marvel Studios about producing and starring in the movie with plans to make it “as big as Black Panther.”

MARCH 2020 – Development is paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

FEBRUARY 2021 – Stacy Osei-Kuffour (HBO’s “Watchmen”) is hired to write the script. It is PG-13, set in 1920s New Orleans, and follows Blade protecting his estranged daughter from a vampire lord who plans to use her blood to create an army of vampires immune to sunlight.

SEPTEMBER 2021 – Bassam Tariq (“Mogul Mowgli”) is hired to direct the movie.

NOVEMBER 2021 – Delroy Lindo is cast as Blade’s mentor Jamal Afari.

FEBRUARY 2022 – Aaron Pierre is cast as vampire lord Aaron Thorne.

JUNE 2022 – Milan Ray is cast as Blade’s daughter Zora Brooks. Casting underway for Blade’s allies Rachel Van Helsing, Quincy Harker and Taj Nital.

JULY 2022 – Marvel announces November 3, 2023 release date.

SEPTEMBER 2022 – Marvel dislikes the script for lacking action and believes Tariq is unable to handle a blockbuster. Production is delayed, Tariq departs at Marvel’s request, and Beau DeMayo (“X-Men ‘97”) is hired to rewrite the script, but later fired after clashing with producers. Lindo, Pierre and Ray are released from their contracts.

OCTOBER 2022 – Marvel shits release to September 6, 2024.

NOVEMBER 2022 – Michael Starrbury (“When They See Us”) is hired to write a brand new script. It is still PG-13, set in 1920s New Orleans, and follows Blade protecting his estranged daughter from a demon queen who plans to use her blood to create an army of vampires immune to sunlight. Ali chooses Yann Demange (“’71”) to direct.

APRIL 2023 – Mia Goth is cast as demon queen Lilith. Ali dislikes the script’s tone and hires Nic Pizzolato (“True Detective”) to add more horror, but he departs later that month due to the impending 2023 Hollywood strikes.

MAY 2023 – Production is paused due to the strikes, with plans to begin filming immediately after the strikes are settled.

JUNE 2023 – Marvel shifts release to February 14, 2025.

SEPTEMBER 2023 – Ali and Marvel reassess the project, abandon plans to integrate Blade into the larger MCU and decide to retool it into a standalone, lower-budget, R-rated story set in present day.

NOVEMBER 2023 – Michael Green is hired to write a new script. It still follows Blade protecting a girl from demon queen Lilith, but the girl is reportedly no longer his daughter and is now a teenager rather than a child. Marvel shifts release to November 5, 2025.

JUNE 2024 –Demange leaves the project due to the constant delays. Eric Pearson (“Black Widow”) is hired to polish Green’s script with plans for it to lead into a Midnight Sons movie.

OCTOBER 2024 – Marvel removes the movie from the 2025 release calendar and leaves it undated until they have a new director and a proper filming schedule. Ali is reportedly growing frustrated with the process.

DECEMBER 2024 – Marvel decides to release the movie only after the Multiverse Saga concludes in 2027. The possibility to introduce Blade in Midnight Sons and then give him a solo spinoff is discussed.

FEBRUARY 2025 – Marvel approaches “True Detective” director Cary Fukunaga about directing, but ultimately decides to seek someone more collaborative. They later approach “John Wick” director Chad Stahelski, who is interested but already has the “Highlander” reboot and “John Wick 5” in the pipeline.

MARCH 2025 – Marvel reportedly puts the movie on hold to focus on the next Avengers films and Spider-Man 4, with plans to revisit the project after 2027. Ali’s involvement remains uncertain.

They refuse to make him British.

I say this as a black man, blade and spawn are the top 2 cool black characters. Do not care what you say, black panther is a dogshit character and I don’t care how much good runs and stories he may have. Do not give a fuck.

I don’t care how much good runs and stories he may have

Don't worry he doesn't really have any great runs

Great to hear as I just do not give a fuck about him. I actively go out of my way to shit on that character because of how fucking lame he just is to me. Wolverine is doing gods work as far as I’m concerned everytime he cucks him

Is Hell where bad people get sent to or is it just another dimension?

Why not both? I have no trouble with Marvel having several alternate dimensions that inspired hell that run on soul power, but putting Blade and his Grand Vampire Conspiracy in the same universe as Tony Stark and Frank Castle is just weird because you can't blame the clearly supernatural acts of Dracula on alternate dimension rules and either one of those characters should have run into vampires at some point and gotten recruited into a bigger and bloodier fight.

set in 1920s New Orleans

The fuck? Were they ripping off Interview With The Vampire? Planning a crossover? That's such a weirdly specific setting.

Period pieces are Marvel’s go-to to introduce major additions to the lore like vampires would have been, and New Orleans is just a very popular setting for supernatural stories about black folks.

Same thing that happened to Tatum's Gambit movie. Funny how him and OG Blade managed to get a cameo that people liked. Electra too, whose movie wasn't well received.

There was nothing that was deconstructive about Blade and Blade was never a blaxploitation character, that was Luke Cage.

Snipes is irreplaceable

My tinfoil theory about production is that there’s some kind of mandate/clause for this movie limiting the blood and gore. Or possibly just trying to control it in very specific ways. Would explain why they’ve churned through so many writers and directors. Probably an impossible task to make a Blade movie with stuff like that. You know, because vampires. If big daddy Disney was breathing down my neck asking me to jump through hoops for a dumb reason like that I’d walk too. Also like another anons said, the movie probably has to explain the whole existence of vampires in the MCU somehow which also seems like it would make no sense to try and write. But those are just my theories.

How are China on vampires? We already know Marvel made the whole time travel stuff confusing as fuck just to make it work with China's ban/dislike against time travel stories where the past can be changed, just so they wouldn't risk losing out on those billions of viewers.
