Absolute Comics

What's the verdict so far? Give your impressions, ranking, etc.
Mine is:

Absolute Wonder Woman

Love it. I'm not a big fan of Wonder Woman but this comic hooked me in. Despite her edgy looks, she is the perfect embodiment of what it means to be a superhero.

Absolute Martian Manhunter

Pretty interesting. It has the potential to be on the top but it's stil too early to tell.

Absolute Green Lantern

Similar to Martian Manhunter.

Absolute Batman

Decent. It isn't a super original spin but it's over the top fun.

Absolute Flash

Eh I dunno. Maybe I could give it another chance but it left me totally cold.

Absolute Superman

Dropped. I couldn't even finish the first chapter it reeks of marxism.

Reposting from a previous thread. Just ranking the first issues:

Art

Martian Manhunter > Wonder Woman > Batman >>> Flash > Superman > Green Lantern

Rodriguez on MM is the best, playing with the comics form and generally looking pleasant and vibrant.
Sherman on WW is decent. The fancy paneling helps break the tedium, and the colors are nice, but the human faces are a bit odd.
Dragotta on Batman is not at his best, but still carries a significant momentum, especially during the fights.
Flash suffers from digital and boring character designs with a touch of gayface. The stylized graphics and paneling helped give it an edge over Superman.
Superman has the same boring and generic digital art look, but the Krypton portions were nice and colorful.
GL's art is the worst by far. Outright bad. Character designs, environment, paneling; everything looks shitty and dull.

Writing

Batman > Martian Manhunter >Wonder Woman > Flash > Superman > Green Lantern

Batman was the best, partly because the Elseworlds approach is well-trodden territory for him, and Snyder is so familiar with him at this point. I like some ideas, like stern Joker, brutal Bruce, and agent Pennyworth, only for being total comic book silliness. Also, it had over 40 pages to tell its story. Still not strong enough for me to keep reading.
MM gets points for straying from the simple role switch formula, but not much happened. The censored "Martian Mindfucker" line killed my interest for the time being.
WW is built on an interesting enough premise (WW raised by Circe), but the monster and human stuff is ridiculously trite.
Flash's Billy Pilgrim approach is the only thing about it that can potentially be interesting. Plot and characters are otherwise super generic.
Superman made a half-assed attempt at creating a backstory before getting to the tedious, shitty parts on Earth.
GL again at the very bottom. It's just not intriguing in the slightest. Very phoned in plotting and characterization.

It stinks.

I think Wonder Woman is less impressive if you read Berserk.

People told me this was as good as the new ultimate marvel universe, but it has been pretty average. I'm still seething that this faggot Ewing chose Jo for brownie points instead of a established Lantern, it had to be Hal or Kyle for fucks sake, every other absolute book has their respective counterpart of the main universe expect Green Lantern

i don't understand this frequent comparison, the only connection you could make with wonder woman and berserk is that both MCs lost an arm and have a huge sword. Guts is a lone wolf, has deep trauma and serious trust issues, Diana on the other hand is super sweet and a beacon of hope.

Reminds me of Joan de Arc and country personifications like Columbia and Britannia

is super sweet and a beacon of hope.

That just makes her seem a lot more lame.

You seem a lot more lame

AWW

This book actually got me into comics, I never read them before this winter. I saw a video about Absolute Wonder Woman, loved the artwork and the concept, loved the cute scenes of Diana and Steve Trevor and decided to find where my local comic book shop was.
I think the books are great so far, Wonder Woman is characterized perfectly, the mythos is cool, the art is great, and the fight scenes are creative and epic.

AMM-H

Just seeing the cover in ads and promos made me want to read it.
There's only one issue out, so it might be more boring than the art and the first issue make it out to be, but so far I think it's very interesting and visually stunning.

ABM

Eh. I don't really get why I would read this version of Batman rather than regular Batman. I'm personally feeling a bit of Batman fatigue, I'm just not compelled by him right now. These books seem fine, but not especially interesting.

AF (heh)

I'm intrigued so far by Absolute Flash. I think it definitely has potential and the writing seems solid, Wally does certainly feel like a real teenager.
I'll keep an ear out for what happens later, but so far it seems pretty fun

ASM

I am really sick of any form of edgy Superman, and so I haven't even read ASM yet, and I'm not planning to either. Superman without the Kents and without growing up on Earth is just not a version of the character I want to read. It's not really Superman anymore, frankly.

AGL

This book wasn't good. The art is not only subpar, but seemingly confused about what genre the book is supposed to be. It was supposed to be some horror story, but every scene is bright as an Arizona noon. All of the Green Lanterns knowing each other was also really cheap and lame, and frankly I don't see anything interesting about this book so far.

it's ok anon you can read the boys or invincible if you want a cynical interpretation of superhero comics

In an interview the author of AGL said he was going to use John Stewart as the main Green Lantern, but felt he had personally written too many stories about middle-aged or older men and wanted to do something different, so he picked Jo.

He should have picked Jessica Cruz

You’ve posted this thread 100 times already

Fucking kill yourself you insufferable faggot

This is literally the first time I post this. A new comic line aimed at new readers getting a lot of attention and discussion is not strange, take your meds lol.

Or I could just read manga.

that grammar

ESL?

ok i made a small mistake so what

Not in agreement with which comic is best (though I really don't like any of them, so my opinion doesn't mean much anyway), but I'm glad we can all see that Green Lantern is the worst so far.

Absolute Superman is my favorite one. I wasn’t surprised when I saw how much Anon Babble hates it since this board is now 95% fascist bootlickers.

This, its honestly like the third time in as many days,

There was an Absolute Green Lantern storytime up for several days, then I made an Absolute DC thread that lasted a couple of days. I guess this OP missed my thread.

Absolute Wonder Woman

Dogshit lesbian bait.

Absolute Batman

Ok. Not peak fiction.

Absolute Superman

Haven't read it, don't have high hopes.

(you)

a polack groomer who hates DC

Back to your containment thread, Spider-Schizo.

I'm personally feeling a bit of Batman fatigue

But you just started reading comic books
read Dark Patternss if you want to read a good Batman comic

I'm fatigued with Batman as a character, not just his comics.
I haven't read his comics yet, actually

Most of them aren't worth it
Then again I feel that way about roughly 99% of physical comics
I have a Surface Studio for reading comics on so that might be why

That said, I did think Absolute Sandman 1-5 was interesting when you realize the entire thing is literally
just people fucking dreaming and Lucifer is the actual story in the spin off

None of these are worth it.

I want to hope they plan a tragic hero for Hal, making him a shittier Parallax is a bad start for a Ultimate like universe.
The friends group seems too friendly for it to be broken without some friendship metaphors, there will be some power of friendship is magic at the end and everyone is saved aside from Hal if they decided a white man living is bad.
And very hopeful Hal doesn't get turned gay for John who heals the black hand with the power of gay love.

Isn't the entire point of these Elseworld stories to show new takes on well-known characters? Why are we using a character that no one knows or cares about as the MC? What does a new take on a new character that no one likes (Jo) matter?

Superman has been the worst one so far because nothing happens in the present scenes. It's mostly other people talking about Superman, and when he does show up he's just angry and yelling at his on-board AI which is a weird thing for Superman to have anyway (I also don't like the dust thing as a replacement for the cape, get this man a real cape). It took six issues for us to even see the villain while the other series already had major confrontations by this point.
The flashbacks in Krypton were fine, although there are several dumb moments where Aaron thinks he's being clever by pretending that he's gonna do the same thing that happened in the main universe and then he does something different. Wow amazing, you subverted my expectations.

Absolute Batman is just Daredevil

Absolute Superman is just Supergirl

Absolute Wonder Woman is just Mr Miracle

Absolute Martian Manhunter is just Johnny Thunder

Absolute Flash is just Spider-Man

Absolute Green Lantern is just Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)

Absolute Green Lantern is more Flash, where the incident that gave the hero it's powers also gave the villain powers (Zoom)

Jessica was the better choice, nobody gives a shit about Jo. Also read Ewing found John to passive for his story, but it makes no sense, could have gone for Hal or Jessica if he wanted a more active character. But another anon saif Ewing is a nigger worshipping faggot so that's why he chose Jo.

I think they're cool. Superman is holding my interest but has the worst pacing thus far. At least we finally have the full context of Absolute Kal-El's origin

I want to hope they plan a tragic hero for Hal, making him a shittier Parallax is a bad start for a Ultimate like universe.

This. What made Parallax tragic was that it was the end of an era.

Some of these seem arbitrary.

I don't believe Absolute Hal is a villain, merely unable to control his Black Lantern powers. What's interesting is no one has a power ring, they just simply are. Makes me think they're reworking the entity stuff, no Parallax or Ion, just hosts becoming the means to channel the emotional spectrum.

Maybe that's the point, they ARE the lanterns

Parallax ref.jpg - 1041x1600, 718.32K

That concept sounds cool af, but the embodiment of will should have been Hal tho due to all the shit he has done in the main universe. Him being death is interesting as fuck ngl, but I dont have high hopes for this book.

No interest. Do your dumb fucking event this is le 'building up to' and let it deflate, already.
ZERO interest.

God forbid we talk about comics in the comics board.

but the embodiment of will should have been Hal tho due to all the shit he has done in the main universe

But this isn't the main universe, that's the point.

Ignore that fag.

Marvel shills getting upset

The other heroes were all their main most iconic names, Clark, Diana, Bruce and Wally.
These elseworlds are supposed to sell their big names for short and epic adventures.
Making Jo, the DEI no one give a shit about and only pretends to, the Will entity when Hal deserves it more for keeping the GL brand afloat for decades is really shitty. Even Kyle deserves it a little more, if not Jess.

They're fusing Alan Scott origin with Hal origin for Jo

Kyle deserves it more than Jess

All shit
