Was Tintin simply too European to succeed in America?

It was pretty big in Canada, for what it's worth.

the country that helped animate it

Not exactly a surprise now

Well, the albums were big there even before the show came out. They even had a boom in the early 2010s when the movie was released.

It failed?

Sizeable population with decent french knowledge helps traction.

It works better as a comic but not as a series.

He's a bit too faggy. Is he supposed to be a teenager or like in his mid-20s?

But enough about you, anon.

not true

That's because of Quebec, same reason why Asterix is mostly known there too.

it's just boring
nobody in america cares about some regular dude and an old sailor going around doing regular people things
it's like indiana jones but with boring characters
tintin is like judge dread or the phantom, where the biggest fans are the people who grew up with it because they had little to no access to real cartoons or comics

Tintin did succeed, when they finally translated and brought the comics over. The ones that aren't pulled for racism are staples in school libraries and book stores. But Hergé died 40 years ago and there hasn't been any new comics for obvious reasons, so it's one of those things that everyone's seen but nobody talks about.

nooo stories must be about men in spandex who can fly and the good guys mow down baddies with machine guns!!! Duh dada dannnnn!!! Death to nazis!!!

Tintin is unironically too mature for Amerimexicans

I remember the series not having the best time slot. That kills many shows.

I don't think they brought it in to "take off in America". More HBO got a deal to dub the show and show it in North America, but because of other popular shows and I assume HBO not sure if it would do well, just gave it whatever timeslot it could get and just released all the episodes that were made before they took it off syndication.

the artstyle just isn't appealing the faces particularly, that's why I never picked it up anyway

the artstyle just isn't appealing the faces particularly

Imagine being filtered by Herge, of all fucking things. The guy who pioneered an entire style.

pretty strange watching the animated series and hearing Tintin with an Albertan accent

nobody in america cares about some regular dude and an old sailor going around doing regular people things

what is Flapjack

what is Spongebob

Canadians are Americans who wanna be European.

I saw the Spielberg movie and started hating everything about it starting with the belching into the dying engine scene and pretty much all the other scenes after it.

The problem with Tin Tin is that he's a pulp character similar to Indiana Jones who traverses the world but.......he's a skinny dude. You can show him fighting as much as you like but he is a scrawny looking character physically. No one expects a skinny man to be a great fighter against villains. Tin Tin in general has an unflattering design for a hero he looks stupid. And his name is also stupid, seriously Tin Tin? That doesn't sound macho or cool. That's a lame sounding name. At least Asterix sounds like a tough scrapper which he is. And it helps that Asterix doesn't take itself seriously. Tin Tin looks silly and lame while taking itself seriously.

That's a huge problem with the property. And Tin Tin is also really boring. How can you make a show about traveling the world boring?

I watched that movie recently and I really liked it

The problem is no one wants to read comics especially in current year. The only comic book fans are greying hair old farts.

Ignorant US niggers don't know these things are popular worldwide and don't need retarded americans to like them to be successful.

That's fine, I'm glad someone did. I'm just saying I didn't.

it's like indiana jones but with boring characters

Indiana Jones isn't the most interesting of characters but that may be because Harrison Ford himself sold out and ruined Indiana Jones for a paycheck. Now I can't help but see Indiana Jones' old movies as he being some shitty asshole piece of shit entirely. Harrison Ford has ruined the brand and remember this could not have been done without his permission. Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones and has ensured the character is seen as ruined trash.

Basically like Robin Hood or Peter Pan. Both of them are recognized but no one really cares too much about them, hence all their reboot movies being failures for many years now.

You can't do a series that's adventure themed with an ugly art style not every ugly art style adventure series will be successful like Adventure Time which is lightning in a bottle.

Don't worry their birthrates are worse than the United States. Canada will die and thanks to women and Jews it will become a Chinese colony since China keeps buying property there.

He isn't manly enough. He looks too cutesy. To go with an example from the same time period, Americans want their heroes to look like Dick Tracy or Tarzan.

Regular people things

May you die a horrible death

The funny thing is Dick Tracy crashed and burned as a series. And Tarzan? By now no one gives a damn about the Tarzan brand. Some things never become successful majorly like Tin Tin and others like Tarzan enjoyed success but in time becomes a has been.

Uh, actually it will be a Sino-Indo colony. Indian working class governed by Chinese landlords.
