Why was it such a spectacular flop compared to the first one?

Why was it such a spectacular flop compared to the first one?

Because people knew what to expect from the first one being shit.

people already knew it was going to be shit because of the previous show

No Dracula cos he's good now
No Akumajo Dracula
French Revolution for no reason, it's totally irrelevant to Castlevania

Setting it in the French Revolution was a good idea on paper tho

A spinoff not about Richter maybe

Because season 4 of the original didn't manage to pull up hard enough to salvage trust and because to quote a prior thread whole fucking sale

Place series in France during the Revolution

Which you then glaze because for some reason there's a subset of faggots who are obsessed with it.

One character has been turned into another but a milf

The character with the name of the one she's replacing is a double demigoddess former slave who practices voodoo which doesn't even have anything to do with the gods she's related to

Also her mentor is canonically one of the ringleaders behind an actual ethnic genocide but we're not gonna talk about that even though it'd be REALLY FUNNY given that it means that her first crush the mulatto would have been executed if was still in Haiti

Also the "sympathetic" vampire is a gay aztec which is a lot like if you had a sympathetic member of ISIS who was an ex-Nazi completely with transforming into a norse werewolf or some shit with zero explanation.

Some really schizophrenic and indecisive shit where they seem to begrudgingly give Christianity the same weight as every other religion but absolutely fucking refuse to stop and talk about it like they do irrelevant shit like the fucking Orisha.

Also LOL PanAfrica faggotry mishmashing 3 unrelated African religions together, unironically the meme strawman version of "Westerns doing asian culture in stories" but for africa straight up. Hilarious.

Cat Vampires for some reason?

Priestess of an Egyptian Goddess is like a bag of dove dark chocolate because they really don't wanna let that myth go.

Once the second season starts and the fucking preaching and shitty character work decreases it gets better but at most becomes "Alright with cool fights".

And then you send a white man with a whip fucking a black woman into Haiti right when they're about to go full white genocide and also purge mulattos and shit at the end of the series.

The magic was fucking lame in the first season. Summoning animals and sand weapons. Wow. Then in S2 Richter levels up his magic and Alucard joins and the fights are fucking cool as hell.

People watch for the fights, in the end.

Also her mentor is canonically one of the ringleaders behind an actual ethnic genocide but we're not gonna talk about that even though it'd be REALLY FUNNY given that it means that her first crush the mulatto would have been executed if was still in Haiti

You don't know shit so shut up

I'm mad they wasted the Nocturne subtitle on this.

because racist neckbeard incel chuds cried because there was a brown person in it

Anon are you just pretending to be retarded or are you not aware of how the haitian revolutionaries literally purged the island of white life other than, in order:

The Poles who betrayed everyone else

The germans who were uninvolved [and germany was too scary to piss off]

White women who agreed to be raped by black haitians as their "wives"

Mulatto and white girls

Over the several years of revolutionary control? Like this is literally textbook shit that happened, and as a leader in the revolution, it literally set back emancipation movements fucking DECADES as news disseminated and is a major contributor to the American civil war because the south feared a repeat. And Netflixevania fucks with the timeframe of it, so her mentor would be a participant in all that shit.

As a leader in the revolution

Fucking editing typo, meant to follow, forgot to edit it out.

This isn't the the hill to die on, hon. The show was ass. Simple as.

fuck off and die please, thanks.

I'm well aware, unlike you who seems to think that Toussaint Louverture was involved in the genocide. He was dead by the time that happened, furthermore we also don't see Annette interacting with him. Her only mentor that we do see is her voodoo teacher

So again, you don't know shit so shut up and while you're at it read up on why the genocide happened and what role the French had in it happening.

Not a real argument, Ellis

I'd give you a detailed explanation but you know what? FUCK IT.

At least part of the problem is that they didn't learn from the first series bad pacing.
So basically the entire first season of Nocturne set up and the heroes are handed loss after loss to the point that they would have unironically been better off just not getting involved at all until Alucard shows up. Which isn't really satisfying if we're supposed to root for these people, and doubly so when the resolution is literally to summon gods to deus ex machina a victory.

Anon why the fuck would I be talking about a character that didn't appear instead of the fictional one who does who we're later shown having the revolutionaries burn down swathes of the island while scary music plays and a bunch of people are running and screaming.

Also it's cute you think there's any gotcha to try and make mass genocide, purity spirals, and rape okay, it's extra funny because even under Louverture the haitian revolutionaries were already starting on it themselves before the french commander who ordered them to retaliate in kind even arrived.

The whole thing was complicated. The revolutionary government did abolish slavery, but the planter class rejected this change, prompting the government to send an Army to remove them from power. During the fighting, a black military officer took control, freed the slaves, organized them into a mob, and declared Haiti independent. This is where much of the looting and mass murder occurred.(I’m not sure where you got the idea that they spared the mulattos; they were killed as well). Napoleon later sent a French army, along with some Poles, to deal with the situation, but nearly half of them died before a single battle due to island sickness. The Poles ultimately sided with what they believed was the winning side. Afterward, Haiti became a monarchy led by a former slave who reinstated slavery in all but name (indenture servitude). This was immensely unpopular and caused a massive riot. Eventually, that guy committed suicide and his son was murdered by a mob. Since then, Haiti has unstable shithole with no real authority

I was saying they did eventually kill the mulattos, though it actually being a policy only happened post-revolution proper. Girls were sometimes spared with the idea being that they'd be, like white women and girls, taken by properly "black" men, though it was a granular case to case scenario, further complicated by the allowed presence of german and polish expatriates, a few of which brought or started families, not that it lasted long there, most were smart enough to say "Er thanks for the oath of brotherhood and the Negroes of Europe thing I guess." and got the fuck out as fast they could.

My favorite thing about Haiti is that you can see the border with the Dominican Republic from orbit because of the environmental destruction and desolation they've inflicted.

You're backtracking and moving the goalpost, just admit you don't know anything about the revolution in Haiti.

And funny how you forgot to mention that the only reason deforestation happened is because of a french ultimatum. Pay for their freedom or face another invasion, and they only thing they could use was lumber.

I think I know what you're talking about, the few White/Mulatto women who were spared were the ones specifically taken by the new officer class

In parallel to the killings, plundering and rape also occurred. As elsewhere, the majority of the women were initially not killed, and the soldiers were reportedly somewhat hesitant to do so. Dessalines's advisers, however, pointed out that the white Haitians would not disappear if the women were left to give birth to white men, and after this, Dessalines ordered that the women should be killed as well, with the exception of those who agreed to marry non-white men.[30]

Anyway, the point still stands: the Haitian Revolution was complicated, and it required skilled writers; most of these liberals would have been slaughtered as well, the fact they got Haitian Voodoo wrong was pretty fucking funny

You're backtracking because you're not making the argument I made up in my head about someone who wasn't even mentioned.

Anon why are you retarded.

Then pray tell what argument were you making, you talk about the Haitian genocide and say this

Also her mentor is canonically one of the ringleaders behind an actual ethnic genocide

But when I point out this is wrong then you backtrack.

Except I didn't but okay faggot. If you make up a fictional nazi leader as somebody's mentor figure the assumption is he's in on the plan to gas the jews, you retard.

Did you or did you not write This post?

If it was willing to be critical of the Reign of Terror era then it might have been *about* something. But the French revolution as set dressing becomes entirely toothless if there isn't anything about you know- people being murdered in public.

There was some passing mention of how revolutions end in pointless bloodshed, but the king hasn't even been executed yet when the series takes place.

The French captured and removed the moderate rebel (Louverture) after making him believe they were ready to sign a peace agreement. Radicals took his place and carried out the gruesome stuff. In their own hubris, the French ultimately failed their own population.

The problem with all violent revolutions is that a populist strongman(usually a military officer) ends up taking power; the revolution then morphs into a cult of the leader, It's honestly a miracle that the American Revolution didn't end with Washington declaring himself Generalissimo and becoming a despot

I can't believe how much this show sucked. Captain N was better.

Have they figured out how to replant trees in the past century or so?

Not enough lesbians.

He was specifically sabotaged by Dessalines in a power grab, the Frogs literally got tricked into taking down the wrong man because of that faggotry.

You're asking anon if he wrote a post that doesn't support your strawman like it's supposed to be a gotcha. I think at least one of us is confused. That post doesn't mention Louverture at all.

Because the first one wasn't that good either, especially the final season.

No. Anon's also retarded if he thinks that the debt was either as bad as he claims or that it wasn't a reasonable war debt given that the Haitian's pushed the genocide button first.

I'd rate 4 about 3 at least because it was less of a retarded waste of fucking time.

It's telling that both S4 of the original and the later half of Nocturne were major improvements by just actually doing the monster fighting adventure shit so there was less fucking time to waste of vomiting up ideological pandering.

Made Richter a little bitch

YASSSified his GF

those are the reasons I didn't watch it at least
