How was he able to get his first show at such a young age?
How was he able to get his first show at such a young age?
26 isn’t super young
connections
I'm 30 and failed at life
Want to make an indie cartoon but my skill is low
I also masturbate 8 times a day and am bulimic
That was common. The OGs from the 90s and 2000s were all under 25.
Unironically connections he made thru CalArts, which got him on Flapjack, Fish Hooks and then eventually Gravity Falls.
Should I just rope at this point?
You can change. One day you'll be 35 and you'll either regret or appreciate your last 5 years. Come on anon
Also, Gravity Falls SUCKS
Maybe start with a comic since it’s less time consuming. Even at 30 you’ve still got like 50 years before you die so get your life together if you really want to accomplish your dreams
Nah, just start a comic or something and shill it
Make some money
Hire a few artist
Then make it into a cartoon
Shut up retard
make list of all the bad things you do
spend two hours figuring out how to stop
do the right things to get you ahead
this. connections give you opportunities into the industry. If you're an isolated mute fuck with no drive for ambition then you'll never get anywhere.
Sucks a mean dick
Nepotism
Hey Alex, how does it feel going back on all fours to Disney? At least Dana had the balls to walk away.
I also masturbate 8 times a day and am bulimic
at least you're not fat
You can also change anon. And Gravity Falls still sucks
He asked nicely
I can't have a conversation without (((noticing)))
He had boarded at least 3 shows by that point
Maybe pay attention retard
No.
Unless you mean old fashioned networking.
Hirsch didn’t have family in the industry, and both nepotism and cronyism imply that someone completely unqualified is given a position due to family or friends in high places. Typical Anon Babble hyperbole aside, Hirsch does have skill and even if you hate everything he does, it’s not an example of nepotism.
Jared Kushner being tasked with brokering peace in the Middle East is a prime example of nepotism. He had no experience or training in statecraft and was given the position simply because of familial connections.
Sorry, but your text combined with your reaction image made me laugh.
Hirsch does have skill
In what? His art isn't stellar, and I've heard mixed things about him as a showrunner. He went overbudget with the Netflix show.
Got into Calarts at the right time and in the right place
Put out a student film that got several studios to notice at an annul student festival
Intern at Pixar at one point
Got calls from Disney to do some gigs before he can pitch them his own show
Rest is history
Calarts open more opportunities for him if he went to a mediocre art school or went self-taught. If Hirsch never got accepted that school right after high school, he wouldn't able to pitch Gravity Falls or make it where he is today!
Networking is cronyism. There is literally no distinction.
There is. Cronyism is when you give your buddies a job despite them having no experience or expertise. Networking is when you recommend someone you know for a job (or hire them directly) because you know their work and think they’d be a good fit.
Networking occurs in nearly every industry. Meeting people who work in your field is just a smart thing to do, but you still have to be qualified for a position. Cronyism is when you get a job you’re not qualified for solely on the basis that your friend is doing the hiring.
He worked for Flapjack
He managed to create a hit big enough for Disney that they were willing to do 3 book deals with him after and are considering bringing the show back. His skills are good enough that Netflix wanted to hire him after GF ended.
My point is that he actually knows how to animate, design characters, write a story, and understands the animation pipeline. He was trained to do this specifically at CalArts and boarded on 3 shows before he got GF. Again, you can hate everything he does, but he was pretty damned qualified.
Cronyism would be if he was just some random bro who had no experience or training, but got a show at Disney because he played video games with one of the execs.
You could say the same thing for people who go to Yale or Harvard. Schools do open doors. It’s not the only thing, though. Tara Billinger is 100% self taught, and she’s doing pretty well.
Only rich people are people, so comparing him to human bodies who would never have the opportunity is irrelevant
If you're a born businessman, you will be able to form your own connections even if you start with no one and just $5 on you. It's one of the biggest blackpills in life.
I know a guy who has that kind of disposition, he became a millionaire under 25 through YouTube. His channel has under 50k subs, but he's achieved insane connections and deals in his niche. He's certainly not MrBeast level, but you'll have to get millions of subs to get to that point on views and popularity alone. Then you have stories of actors or athletes who became super wealthy but go broke as soon as the well runs dry.
Timing was definitely on his side. Gravity Falls was pitched in an era where Disney TV was looking to younger voices to develop cartoons they'd never done before. It was a risk, but it worked out for everybody in the end.
Average Anon Babble loser
He has a big forehead for a cartoonist.
Give it to me straight, Anon Babble is it possible to get a show on cable/streaming these days?
My dream is the only thing keeping me alive
you will be able to form your own connections
Yeah, that’s networking, dipshit
If networking is so important then why doesn't it work? The industry should be booming with all the hand picked referrals and the collapse should have never happened.
Because networking alone won’t get you there. It’s a part of the equation. If there was a sure-fire method then this shit would be easy. Nothing is guaranteed.
The industry didn’t collapse from lack of workers. They lost a significant source of revenue when things moved to streaming (no ads) and kids stopped buying toys in favor of video games.
This, but I'm 33, have art block and lose interest in things easily, even though I have a really good world that I want to illustrate.
Also, I am not bulimic and I don't jerk off 8 times a day. That's how you get ED.
you can go to any of these schools if you loanmaxxx- you might be fucked for your adult life and it's a risk, but California is full of people from around the world heading over to try and make it big..and most failing of course
