"It's ok Oliver. I know you were just trying to help."
Less than 20 seconds later
"You've been teaching him your ways, haven't you, Invincible?"
Why does anyone like this character?

I don't know. People like old dudes and licking boot I guess.
Cecil witnessed Nolan surviving an orbital laser and Mark benching 400 tons with ease
Then he thought he could contain a Viltrumite stronger than both of them combined with 400 tons of tungsten and some TNT, he's clinically retarded
did battle beast appear yet
He's a realistic depiction of a typical glowie?
Yes
How many coups have Cecil organized in the third world? Having Omniman would make the work very easy
Because he's not bitch made like Mark, and his questionable ethics won the Invincible War.
I don't know what to make of these two. It seems like the show wants to make their relationship seem "cute", but it just comes out as kinda weird and creepy. It doesn't help that Robot (or "Rex") is kinda of an asshole.
The Cube has always been a shitty idea, can't even guess why they went with it in the show.
Because Mark was being a retard and a hypocrite?
Mark ended it. Cecil was running out of reanimen and he lost darkwing almost immediately. Angstrom was about to bring back the Mark variables to finish wrecking shit. He literally had nothing left for a second wave of evil Invincibles much less for Conquest.
Literally nothing Cecil does throughout the entire story has ever been the deciding factor in winning against any threats to earth. But his ego is too fragile to admit his methods don't really amount to dick in the grandma scheme of things
The whole take away from the Invincible war/Conquest fight should have been that Cecil cannot defend earth on his own doing waht he does without Mark's help and that Cecil can be a valuable ally to Mark in a pinch. But Mark still doesn't trust Cecil and we see he's completely right not to
Mark is a cry baby bitch who hides in a hospital when his hoe gets hurt. Relying on amoral science seems more reliable than a hormonal young adult.
Cecil is a liar who will say anything to get people to trust him. He wasn't actually worried about Oliver he was just trying to present himself as non threatening so Oliver would believe Cecil is on his side and trust him. This is what goverment spooks do. Mark was 100% justified in making sure Cecil does not go near his family.
Except he literally cant. Cecil ran out of reanimen by the end of the third day and couldn't get any more made in time to stop the inevitable slaughter. And darkwing was a bust. He had to go beg Mark for help and Mark probably would've been more compliant if he trusted that Cecil would be able to protect her and also wouldn't plant a bomb in her head to get Mark back under his thumb.
It was just jobbing other characters again for the sake of bad writing, so conquest could effortlessly escape
All you are doing is just sucking off Kirkman's terrible writing, where Earthlings are treated worse than Z-Fighters and not even allowed to do anything in their own comics against their own villains.
Rudy constantly gets handouts by the writer, even becoming a brain in a jar doesn't stop the pen of the author letting him win more.
The worst thing that happens to him is getting cucked, and even when he uses that to jump off the deep end and take over the world while murdering a bunch of superheroes for absolutly no reason the writing doesn't really condem his actions.
Kirkman was too scared of making his Kryptonian Saiyans a bunch of Retro Marks/Homelanders/Immortals feat Thragg. He's a massive hack yes.
Because Kirkman is a deranged NTR fetishist who thinks all cucked men should blindly suck it up as hard as Mark or go full Maker feat Eve's dad being the meme answer.
He's insanely measured. Mark is an adult who has been insanely obstinate and counterproductive to the cause of protecting people; Mark has been clear that he will throw a violent tantrum over Cecil constructively rehabilitating criminals. Oliver is just a little kid. A tiny purple baby boy. He didnt even mouth off at Cecil and this was a traumatizing moment for the little sucker. Cecil is a g-man but he's still a man, he knows Oliver wasn't being a bad kid or trying to fuck anything up. If theres anyone to blame when good kids do something wrong, its their role models ie Invincible who is a prick.
I really wish the show was called Incecilable and was just about him having to protect democracy by manipulating superpowered prima donnas who refuse to let themselves be replaced by safer and publically controlled alternatives to superheroes that standardize the process. Why do we have 117 people of varying power levels and utility? Mark should be 100% on board with helping Cecil create reliably powerful Reanimen and Robot drones so nobody can invade earth, not even him.
changes his name to Rex after his funeral
Why the fuck isn't anyone calling him out as fucking weird? It's one thing to steal his DNA to make a body, but now he's just taking his identity too? And everyone's just cool with it?
hes always right
Why does anyone like this character?
what's to like? the character is a fucking cunt and Goggins' performance is so underwhelming it sounds like he's half asleep most of the time
You have no idea how much I hate a good character like Monster Girl being saddled with his mopey, solipsistic ass.
"But I Do Not Understand, A Protein Rich Nutrient Slurry Is Much More Effecient Than A Mere Hamburger. It Is Not Even Produced With Ham, Granted We Are In A City With An Unusually Dense Number Of German Immigrants. By The Way According To My Calculations Your Next Period is in 17 Minutes :)"
DOGE sounding retarded
The writing is bad man, and its only going to get worse.
I wanna rape him everytime he says "no shit"
Robot's entire thing is he is LITERALLY turbo-autistic.
I'm surprised Kirkman hasn't gotten shit for making an autist a villain.
Cecil never claims to be able to operate independently without Mark against threats like the Viltrumites. He's super upfront about how defenseless humanity is and how strong Mark is by comparison. Cecil even takes time and resources away from the GDA to train Mark and help him grow stronger. Its Mark who throws an absolute bitchfit when Cecil tries to do the same for humanity and give us a fighting chance. Suddenly it's only ethical for Mark to be powerful or forgiven for immoral deeds. Mark is an asshole tyrant who thinks he's above the law, what scares the shit out of Cecil so bad is that he functionally *is* and he throws a temper tantrum if you do *anything* to even the playing field. Sinclair could formulate a vaccine against death itself and Mark would get on Cecil's case over "NOOOO ONLY I CAN BE 500, FUCK YOU, MEDICINE IS EVIL, SCIENCE IS EVIL, ONLY MY NATTY SPACE STRENGTH IS VIRTUOUS!"
Then idk he'd sob "LEAVE ME ALONE SEA SALT" like he's the victim and strangle an old man
Amanda is cute but Rudy is too autistic. Child Atom Eve was a better portrayal of autism
You're nuts, Cecil is carrying that show for me. Literally the only adult in a room full of teenagers desperate to feel powerful. Goggins is hot as fuck and Cecil is a certified husbando.
It'd be one thing if like idk Machinehead was running an underground pro-humanity super defense organization, or if Doc Seismic got unconcussed and formed The Social Justice League. Then we'd have alternatives. As it stands there's really only the GDA and it seems like in this setting Omniman tier kaiju just fucking spawn every so often.
Cecil is a baddy for staring that shit down.
He's insanely measured
Kek, no he isn't. Hes just grasping at anything
that could give him an edge against the viltrumites. He's not interested in actually reforming villians he just wants anybody or anything that can hurt or put up a fight against a viltrumite who's also dumb or cowardly enough to not question him. Cecil does a lot of dumb things that come back to bite him in the ass.
Also the idea of your story sounds lke an insanely boring fascist's wet dream.
I for one welcome our new viltrumite overlord
Rexsplode in-universe is an annoying weirdo only liked by 2/3rds of his hoes, while Robot is a big brained genius.
Still dumb to ignore the red flags; still funny that Black Samson is seeing them somewhat.
I'm ready for the abortion trainwreck.
t. butthurt Mark stan. Moralfaggotry isn't gonna save the world.
Nobody really liked Rex. Well except for Shrinking Rae in the show. Maybe she'll point out how werid since she seems to be the only person who cared about him outside of being a superhero.
Because Conquest needs to appear again for the rematch with Mark, so Kirkman has no choice but to make Cecil act like a retard
Its weird its not brought up more or explored.
Like could have had Rudy and Rex hanging out more, since Rudy is technically his new lil brother or something.
Conquest is a massive fuck up, but the Reanimen are worth it despite being Shrinking Rae victims.
Im an anarchist and I didnt design the Invincible setting so that authoritarianism is the only viable path to democracy. A series of kaiju can just undo all civilizational progress, you can't just stick your thumb up your ass and hope that a clique of super-oligarchs with the literal minds of children deign to help you and actually succeed.
Keeping Conquest around is the only real fuck up I'm counting atm, but as far as Cecil knows there's a planetary empire of Conquests coming. Is Mark going to volunteer to help the GDA test anti-viltrumite weapons? Gather intelligence? Dont make me laugh. He's going to jerk off to rule 34 from Seance Dog Rivals and then try to snap Cecil's neck before he collects his pension because Cecil said that criminals can be reformed. So I'm sorry, but even him taking Conquest as a prisoner to me is on Mark. If Mark hadnt been so fucking mercurial in the first place maybe he'd have been part of the decision making process or kept in the loop. But Mark cant be trusted. Which is Cecil's point.
the abortion trainwreck
Wait what's this? Showfag here obviously.
"Mark thank God you agreed to help us test these new sonic cannons, if we didn't have your help I don't know how else we'd gather intel on the Viltrumites."
"Hey anytime Seasalt, I'm a human too. We need to stick together. I'm about to punch out for the day, want me to stop by the Reanimen wing and see how they're shaping up?"
"Yes please thank you Invisible. I'm glad we have an open dialogue and you're a partner in humanity's protection."
"Me too, I hope the Maulers' figure out how to splice viltrum DNA in minute amounts into base humans soon. Then I can retire and we can have a proper army for earth. See you tomorrow Seesaw."
"See you tomorrow Indivisible."
This is just bad writing on Kirkman's part so he can have Conquest escape for little reason later.
It would be more plausible if Cecil brought in some sort of psychic to mine the comatose Conquest's mind for information, but that would be the Earth heroes actually being allowed to be shown as even slightly credible in any way or the superheroes being allowed to use any powers that weren't just dumb brawling.
Mark is NOT moral. He's a petulant brat, the story doesn't set out to do this on purpose but it really does tell the story of how power reveals our baser natures. And Mark is.... Mark is kind of a pussy and a bully. What did he have to prove against Cecil? Strangling him was pure intimidation. The boy is Mr. Liu without the charm or talent.
In a way Invincible has one of the best collections of heroes and villains I've seen in a standalone capeshit. Cecil, Donald, Damien Darkblood, Titan, Debby & idk 1 of Atom Eve's 7 brain cells all do something noble while being powerless. Its the Marks, Nolans, Immortals and Robots who shit on everyone's hard work.
Its extremely disappointing how little background the other heroes get. Everyones powers are just innate and unexplained, mysteriously obtained and unexplained or (my favorite) the result of an extremely ethnic curse. Dragon Ball Z gave it's bench more of a background than that lmfao, Titan weeps at Tien's comparatively rich backstory. Robot can only look at Piccolo being a black asexual aura farming chad and think "gee why couldn't I hack it like this guy does?"
The only guy whose coming out looking good here in comparison is Cecil, whose Dragon Ball equals (Mr. Satan or Roshi) are more like gag characters. Cecil is when Mr. Satan says "GEE I DUNNO BUU, I THINK EVERYBAWDY SHUD LERN TO USE KI BLASTS IF WE KEEP GETTIN INVADED"
Are you sure?
I only feel Mark gets the good ending because of MC self-inserters and Kirkman losing a lotta readers after the Rudying and the reboot bullshit.
I felt Immortal was tolerable/kinda cool post Rudying, but that's probably because every other Earth hero was dead, became more frustrating (Brit had some 300 IQ plans but he somehow does less than a fraud like Mortal, Amanda's only use was baiting out Rudy's simp nature), or only exist to fill space (Best Tiger, Tech Jacket, the expanded Guardians as a whole)
One day he's going to stop talking mid sentence, sniff around and be like "Finally. I knew it. Thats shit. Mark you've been using your super speed to slip turds into my back pocket haven't you?"
Then idk Mark will start hyperventilating "CICI IS TRYING TO TORTURE ME YOU GUYS PLEASE HELP HE'S TRYING TO UNALIVE *AND* RAPE ME" while a confused and scared Cecil desperately tries to shake Mark's mud pie out of his pants leg and hand him his binky before it's too late.
I get it, I mean the target audience is teenage boys who grow up with the Mark character as he does. It'd be really effective to dive into Mark's flaws as a young man because of that, but its just not what Kirkman thought the kids would want. And he might've been right. I hope the show gets a little funky with it because the way the story is written right now we begin with multiple warnings against individual superhuman dictators and end with a utopian individual superhuman dictator. That chaffs my asshole wicked badly.
Cecil isnsuper smart guise, he was just written out of character bybthat dastardly Kirkman!
Also Cecil
In the comics doesn't question Nolan's story about why he's on earth
In the show realizes Nolan is lying about why he's on earth decides to trust him anyway
Takes months to figure out Nolan killed the guardians and is gearing up to take over earth despite knowing he's a liar and Darkblood telling him Nolan killed the gaurdians
CONQUEST
Gives Robot total control of earth's defense systems despite finding it suspicious
I don't know guys. I think Cecil might be stupid.
I don't know, Rex never seemed comfortable with Rudy's whole "I took your DNA so I can bang our questionably legal loli teammate" thing.
fakeout deaths out the ass so I can't truly believe that anyone is ever dead even when they say 'bro trust me'
Cecil is the voice of reason for the story and Mark is just mindlessly seething at him with no good arguments
Omni-Man and Allen spend the entire season in a single talk-no-jutsu scene to get them out of Viltrumite jail
Nolan's books about things that can kill Viltrumites felt like a dropped plotline this entire season when it should've been used as a way to tie the story together and then the payoff would be them using something to defeat Conquest
instead of going into Nolan's books we get endless subplots upon subplots about b and c-tier villains no one gives a fuck about because Viltrumite power levels are too high to give the rest of the cast any screentime
PSAs about minorities, women, gays or whatever that don't contribute to the plot nor do they make the characters grow. It's entirely performative.
show's massive budget goes to the voice actors and not towards good animation, which is just getting tired, repetitive and gory for the sake of gory.
Robot stole Rex's identity and no one has given a single fuck or found his actions weird.
I'm starting to check out
I can only speak to the show, because the comic turned me off with laziness at several points.
That said these aren't the actions of a stupid man. Theyre the actions of a desperate one who moves covertly. He's in a high stakes game here, if he fucks up thats it for humanity. Of course he's secretive. His best "partner" in protecting his *planet* is a manchild whose never struggled to achieve his capabilities and is firmly against criminal rehabilitation. In his shoes I wouldnt even get out of bed in the morning. He's there with bells on and a cup of coffee; and jokes! He's a funny guy. Office cut up.
This. It make perfect sense to have a captured enemy to interrogate about an interstellar empire they know NOTHING about. The guaranteed and deadly threat of no information is worse than the possible threat of an escape. This is a super fucking basic thing and how a learned strategist weighing options acts.
Also, this. The MC being an emotional, unlikable, wangsting, badly written cunt just brings the whole thing down, made by even worse how all the secondary characters are much more sane, rational and interesting and you keep finding yourself wishing if the comic followed them instead.
If you think about it, Cecil might have the worst judge of character in all of fiction. The 2 guys he trusted without question to defend the earth, Omniman and Robot, were both tyrants who betrayed him and slaughtered a bunch of heros to take over the earth. He did the same thkng twice and the secomd time cost him his life. And the one hero who never hurt Cecil and never would, who who defended the earth at every opportunity even when he was outmatched was the one Cecil didn't trust and tried to manipulate.
Like Jesus, why does everyone here glaze this dumb fuck.
glaze
Not like anyone was gonna do anything about it.
Leave after the First Viltrumite War. It only gets dumber from here on out.
Robot stole Rex's identity and no one has given a single fuck or found his actions weird.
No one cares because they just see it as some autist trying to get some tail, like Bulletproof said (paraphrasing). Also Rexsplode is a degenerate asshole only liked 66% of his fucksleeves and Mark; the latter is too low IQ to understand clone shit
The earth wasn't in any immediate danger when he decided to trust both Robot and Omni-man and hand over control of it's safety to both of them.
It's actually comical how similar how both Nolan and Robot's plans were and how they were both easily able to trick Cecil.
If you think about it, Cecil might have the worst judge of character in all of fiction
Right i mean it's obvious that he should have instead.......done what exactly?
I think Mark is written *fine* if they stick the landing by changing the ending and have his shittiness catch up to him. Instead of being constantly rewarded because he happens to be really strong.
Much as I agree with Cecil on ethics. His tactics are complete shit when you realize in a world of supers, he keeps trying to out superman the supermen instead of going balls deep into the dr. stranges.
Hell it could be argued he'd of been more effective and saved money by just perfecting the teleportation tech he was using instead of going with supers.
Besides the kaiju, supervillains and demons that all previously made the GDA and Guardians of the Globe necessary? Arguably if he didnt exist to help leverage Omniman, Nolan might've taken a more expedient route in conquering them.
Cecil is a normie glowie; he cannot harm Nolan. Robot on the other hand was fucking dumb. I bet he only trusted Robot because he gave Brit and Kid Thor some meme upgrades that don't matter because the former gets upstaged by Immortal of all people and the latter gets Rudy dot com'd
Cecil can only ever be as smart as the writer, and that's not very smart as admitted by kirkman himself.
The government ALREADY made supers capable of killing viltrumites with atom eve. She's the most OP hero in the verse held back by the writer not knowing how to creatively use her powers.
What was the point of making Debby Korean when she doesn't behave even slightly Asian? Like Eve gets an 84% on a test and is sad about it and she fucking comforts her
Cecil can only ever be as smart as the writer, and that's not very smart as admitted by kirkman himself.
Amazon's woke writers and Seth Rogan are somehow more competent than Kirkman at times
The NTR fetishes rotted Kirkman's Talmundic brain
What was the point of making Debby Korean when she doesn't behave even slightly Asian?
Diversity quotas.
She's the most OP hero in the verse held back by the writer not knowing how to creatively use her powers.
I think it's not about a lack of creative use, it's the fact that sometimes you make a character so powerful that if you fully explored their abilities, there would no longer be stakes in the story.
Token diversity
None of that was going to happen with Mark on full Good must always be just and evil in jail.
Cecil tried going that route with Mark and his dad. And got absolute shit on for it.
Not having an eve army makes sense if we assume it takes several ethic violations to do it.
Eve being a tard and brain locked on how to use her powers is believeable. If we assume she never really pushed herself to be creative and just assumed she can only do pink bubbles due to easy wins in past and no training.
Like look at modern comics. It took a long time before writers started making Flash, GL, etc do shit that was reasonably within their powers and creative without going full silver age stupid.
You shouldn't, they'd kill you
cringe
counterpoint: Eve is a girl. Asians don't expect girls to become Doctors, just to marry one.
Actually that's the reason South Korea has a very high "gender wage gap", because most parents in middles class and below families don't let their daughters work after getting the basic education
Kirkman doesn't plan things well. Its why Tech Jacket goes from stereotypical evil space empire to JRPG cosmic horror final bosses feat deranged cuckshit.
Then again Tech Jacket does feel like Kirkman played a lotta JRPGs but just wanted to shove his brainworms in it later on
He's right though. Mark is a beta male with borderline Powerplex IQ, and Cecil is the lesser of evils.
Because he’s just a guy trying to keep shit from falling apart after Omni-Man squad wiped the great value Justice League
I hate this argument.
Cecil didn't put Conquest under 400 tons. He put him INSIDE a 400 tons block of pure tungsten. If Conquest wants to break free he doesn't need to lift it, he needs to bend 400 tons worth of tungsten with 0 momentum. The force required for that is orders of magnitude higher.
This. No character can be smarter than its writer.
Also, Tech Jacket exists in the same universe and he was shown to literally 1v1me fgt an alternate Invincble without any difficulty so why he isn't the chosen hero of Earth?
I know Rudy is supposed to be a turbo autist. But thats why the other characters are supposed to step in and tell him not to steal the identity of a dead friend. Name your child after Rex like a normal person ffs. For being the token asshole Rex was actually the most well adjusted character on the show wtf.
Why didnt they just kept his spine severed, so he stays quadriplegic and immobile? Then interrogate and torture him with the sonic device or sensory deprivation or gram-tier doses of LSD or something. Hell, they could just remove the head and keep it alive in machines and build one fierce reaniman from the rest of the corpse. Maybe even keep his gonads to milk for viltrumite DNA and start a government programme where you omegacuck thousands of women all around the world so "humans" are "naturally" developing viltrumite powers.
Tech Jacket is some galactic hero who is barely on Earth in the show.
No one asked for your opinions Amanda.
We need a multiple copy/paste panel of Tech Jacket sleeping in his super secret satellite through every world level disaster in Invincible
Or maybe TJ's dad, sleeping through both the disasters and TJ asking for updates since everything is pretty quiet
Nooooo don't suck my cock!!
He's the closest thing to a Positive Father Figure the cast has
You know, someone cynical and organised who has their shit together, other characters look to them for structure and assistance when they're in over their head. That doesn't make him always right, but the others all still depend on him because they're dumb teens making their own way
People like the idea of the character not the execution. It's the same reason people like Mike and Gus in breaking bad. They're both horribly written characters but they have an imposing screen prescense so people are ok with it.
Does not really even matter, because viltrumites are the largest galactic threat too AND he was already shown interfering.
There is such a rarity of organized, sane and rational older men having their shit together and making hard decisions in media that people take what they get.
Worth it
That's besides the point. Cecil could've definitively taken better precautions, but the tungsten cube wasn't a dumb idea
The teleportation tech thing is the best example. It's the ultimate in fire support, why do you need supermen at all? Just get the targeting precise enough and you can telefrag any threat that comes along.
Viltrumite shows up, *zoop*, teleport their brain out of their skull, done.
Viltrumites are stated to create their own leverage
Should have cut off all his limbs while he was unconscious. Seems like a no brainer.
Wasn't that by Nolan when training Mark how to fly? I doubt Cecil will know that. From his information viewpoint 400 tons is a benchpressing weight for Mark, and so far above the weight to imobilise.
Smart, no-nonsense character has to act retarded so comic book shit can happen
Yawn. The best thing to do with Mark would be putting through a constant training cycle like we see him briefly go through broken up by impregnating as many human women as possible and occasionally one-shotting mid level earth villains when the GoG need to be inevitably bailed out. Mark playing superhero is a waste of time. Eve playing superhero is a waste of time when she could be creating infinite resources for the GDA, even if we're to assume that bullshit about her mental blocks can't be undone. But then, Cecil won't even give sidearms to members of GoG with utility powers like Kate and Rae, who instead just always use their powers in a way that creates the most gore when 10000 smarter options exist.
You can't criticize Invincible characters like that or the whole story and universe falls apart. You just have to ride with it and if it's not for you, it's not for you.
