For some reason, Marvel wanted Carol to be their answer to Superman and made her the "face" of Marvel by removing almoat everything about her that made her good.

Marvel DESPERATED wanted a Wonder Woman of their own to sit in the big chair alongside Cap, Thor, and Tony, and decided Carol Danvers was their best pick, and proceeded to try to sell her to us as hard as they fucking can, but in addition to it being incredibly forced because not a lot of people were super into her in the first place, the dumbfucks in charge of writing her basically wrote her as a belligerent, egotistical, jackbooted asshole with an incredibly fragile ego that prompts her to be extra belligerent, and given such an overinflated power level no one in the immediately cast can just tell her to shut up and sit down. Which you know wouldn't be a bad thing except they kept trying to bill her as the hero, and that these flaws weren't actually flaws but strengths.
I'm also pretty sure Kamen America was made deliberately as a response to it too. So if you hate that you can blame her for that too.

The truth is that she was never really that interesting and it took a change of costume for everyone to realize.

Storm is already tied to a team in a permanent status with X-Men, pretty sure they wanted someone to sit in the Avengers seat in particular in a similar permanent matter.

Her second Ms. Marvel book was outselling Wonder Woman already. Then Disney happened and now Carol is pretty much a different, much less liked, character.

Marvel wanted their own Wonder Woman equivalent since Marvel didn't have a solo female hero that was at that level and decided that Carol was the horse that they were going to bet on. Nobody gave much of a shit about her before (this was like the third time she had been reinvented. There is a reason the only thing people seem to mourn is her sexier costume.) so they made her into a new character and forced her into the 2010's Tumblr mold. It didn't really work but they refuse to admit that the experiment didn't pan out.
Shulkie would be the obvious choice but her most popular run was the exact opposite of what Marvel was going for with Carol and they wanted a more blank slate. Storm is stuck with the X-Men.

Thing is, Carol can work as their WW equivalent, but she's made such an annoying bitch that she's unlikeable and repellent. Current Marvel only knows two women now: "stoic boss bitch" or "quirky...!"

I’m okay with bitch characters, as long as they’re presented as flawed. Kinda like Barbara Gordon circa late 90s/early 2000s. What I do have a problem with, is character assassinations like Civil War or absolute boring writers like the Kelly Thompson

Dan Slott does to every character he touches. His She-Hulk is basically a 33 issue of this.

It is a very infamous story. No one involved wants to take blame for it since it had many writers. Originally it was going to be a simpler story of Supreme Intelligence violating her to produce half-Kree offspring. While that doesn't have the jarring ending, that still would have been a horrible thing to happen to her.
