Hero defeats a vastly stronger opponent not through tactics or outsmarting

hero defeats a vastly stronger opponent not through tactics or outsmarting

not through foreshadowed and set up powers

not through a satisfying culmination of their character arc

but through suddenly developing an incredibly thick skull that's never referenced again

Why do people praise this shit writing again

headbutt.png - 1080x574, 294.42K

sometimes it just be like that though

It's just American shonen, don't put too much thought into it.

He broke his skull in 3 places and focused his force on the weakest part of Conquest's forehead. Nolan said it best: Mark wanted it more than Conquest. He was fighting for real while Conquest acted like an observer to his own fights. He if locked in Mark and Eve would've gotten one shotted

Both times Mark defeats Conquest it's because he has other people to help or distract his opponents and because he gets lucky.

In the first fight Conquest gets overconfident and Mark gets some good shots in, breaking his mechanical arm, taking a bite out of his neck, and after Eve blasts the fuck out of him it gives Mark enough of an advantage to knock him out. In the second fight, Conquest gets overconfident again - he breaks from the fight to chase after Oliver which opens him up to a big hit from behind from Mark that knocks the wind out of him, and then Mark's able to hold on long enough to strangle Conquest.

...do you not know how hard the forehead is compared to your face, which has numerous holes in its structure?

Mark's big two learning moments of the season are 1) don't trust Cecil and 2) always confirm the kill yourself

at the end of the season, Mark trusts Cecil to confirm the kill

There is nothing clever about the fights. No one thinks of a better strategy than punching harder. Imagine the viltrumites invading marvel, there are so many telepaths and intangibles and soul-eaters that don't need brute force to win.

I'm so tired of modern capeshit's "hero wins, but doesn't ACTUALLY win" bullshit, that I'm happy to see a fight where the villains gets the shit beaten out of him and I don't even like Invincible.

Viltrumites literally do nothing but punch harder. They have no powers aside from flying so they can punch hard in mid air, none of them have any combat training at all, they just punch harder than everyone else, so obviously Mark has to end up hitting conquest harder to win

This makes it sound souch more interesting than it is.

shonen

interesting

suddenly developing an incredibly thick skull that's never referenced again

It is referenced every time you read the show's name.

In all fairness, an incompetent jobber like Eve did 80% of the work

I'm sure he won because of Eve powers that are as powerful as the author wants at the time.

Protip: The facial bones are much weaker than the forehead plate.

That's because you're focusing on the "shonen" descriptor and not the "American" descriptor.

Shame she does jack shit afterward outside being drama bait. Maybe the show could tone it down, but I doubt it because it would be kneeling to spergs on the internet.

suddenly developing an incredibly thick skull

You're an idiot - the forehead is incredibly hard and resilient compared to other areas of the skull, like the orbital sockets, nasal cavity, the jaw, the temples and even the top of the skull which sends the shock of the impact into your spine.
You clearly have never been in a single fight in your life. I've conscientiously tanked punches with the forehead and broke someone's knuckles.
While you think of a fist as strong it's not as damaging as a headbutt - impact from sheer bone with the entire weight of the torso behind it - will actually be. This is why headbutts are banned in virtually all forms of martial arts.

Why does Invincible have too many fucking subplots?

It's like constantly "OH NO IT'S GLOOP SHITTEN III, HE'S HERE TO GAIN THE VENGEANCE THAT IS FATHER, GLOOP SHITTEN II FAILED TO ACHIEVE WHEN MARK KILLED GLOOP SHITTEN I IN AN OFFSCREEN BATTLE!"

Don't care about powerplex, don't care about the lizard league, don't care about Angstrom Levy. Hell, Angstrom Levy just makes me question why the Viltrumites aren't checking other dimensions to unbottleneck their population. Multiverses were a fucking mistake.

I kind of prefered the spinoffs to invincible.

let me guess
brown?

I don't read or watch this slop because it looks like edgy garbage masquerading as deep intelligent fiction.

Beaner

Based Slam Dunk bro.

doesn' matter, you are getting the general gist of it via cultural osmosis, I mean you did post in this thread despite "not caring". You aren't missing much anyways so eh either way.

People like to pretend invincible is 'smartly written'

Capeshitters don't count as people.

That's cheating, Takehiko Inoue is always peak.

a

After that fight I was sure she'd have an arc where she unlocked her potential or something, but nothing happened. I dropped the comic when that weird blue alien boyfriend showed up, so I don't know much about what happened to her towards the end of the comic other than that she married Mark and is immortal.

Multiverses were a fucking mistake.

This is completely unrelated to Invincible but yes multiverses were a terrible idea and have become a garbage science fiction trope that has skewed the entire course of media.

The concept is fine. Where it went fucky is corporate stooges using multiverses as a brand IP management device.

It's not, multiverses have never been good ever, even once

Both his arms and legs were broken. What did you want him to hit conquest with?

That's fair.

Kinoverses are inherently cool unless used by hack writers to force villains / a way to defeat the big bad
Needs to feel organic

don't trust Cecil

Oh please.jpg - 329x225, 11.84K

getting sneeded to death by conquest 24/7 and doing no damage

only does any damage (to his metal arm even lol) by hitting so hard he breaks his own arm

suddenly can just break his head with his own just cuz

That's the nonsense
All the force going into conquest's head should be going right back to mark, he'd crack first

So you want mark to lose the fight? So eve could kill conquest?

If the answer to an unwinnable situation is "just make him win" then the writing has failed
Eve has le ebin plot powers so she could've won it for him, yeah

unwinnable situation

No it was quite winnable afterall mark won in the canon story lmao

playing dumb

Alright

Whatever you say, tourist

Just because you think its dumb just doesnt make marks win over conquest dumb. If anything you should be calling conquest dumb for not making sure eve was dead.

I'd want them to write the fight better from the start. If you establish that Mark is no match for Conquest in strength, don't have him win with strength. Its that simple.
Use teamwork. Use unconventional tactics. Use something mentioned in one of Nolan's scifi novels about what can hurt Viltrumites.

Hell, you know what would have been a neat subversion? Have Mark conflict with Cecil several times throughout the season, getting BTFO by the sonic weapon but getting noticeably better at fighting through it in the last couple times it gets used. Then, when the Conquest fight happens, have Mark beg Cecil to deploy the sonic weapon and it fucks up both Mark and Conquest, but the difference is that Mark is used to this and can still keep fighting and Conquest is having this happen to him for the first time and isn't prepared for it so he's basically disabled while Mark wails on him. THAT would actually be a decent payoff to let Mark get a bunch of good hits in, but have Conquest still be objectively stronger than him and he can still badly injure Mark even through the sonic weapon fucking with him.

No, the forehead is stronger than the face, thus Marky-mark wins, especially after softening up Conquest.

no-sells mark wailing on his face (with his fists) for a solid 30 seconds to prove a point

mark wins by headbutting him

lole
writing

Because focusing too much on the Viltrumites would force power creep so absurd that the Viltrumites that aren't Thragg would be a pile of Retro Marks/Immortal tier jobbers or something. That and Invincible is just edgy cape slop; you gotta have your small timers to appreciate the big shots.

Nothing makes sense about vilturemite breathing, they can apparently hold enough oxygen to survive travelling and fighting in space for ages but somehow suffocate in seconds in atmosphere.

That's because the writing in Invincible is shit and is focused around wanking off the vilturemites.

The series itself ends in them taking over the universe being the best thing ever just because Mark turned out to be from the special bloodline like this was Naruto.

I don't. I'm just here for the fun schlock, and I'm leaving after Robot's tard out.

showfag here who just finished,
I'm probably gonna come back just to watch the rape scene next season, but man I feel like I wasted my time watching 80-90% of the last two seasons. I heard everyone hype up the conquest fight just for it to be entertaining in the moment but underwhelming after the fact that there was literally no strategy to it, just asspulling. It's pretty sad, really.

Eve should have just killed Conquest here, not doing so was nonsensical writing

Strangle? The guys who can hold their breath for as long as they want in space? He should have torn Conquest's head off, but he "strangled" him?

Apparently, Mark's committed to not learning. Its really frustrating to know that, but apparently he had that issue in the comics too. I think he's a pretty shit character.

Because focusing too much on the Viltrumites would force power creep so absurd

That already happened in the series anyway anon, another reason why the series is shit.

In all fairness, Mark winning out due to being a beta male with absurd willpower and bloodline memes seems more legit than some mentally unstable incel who keep betraying anyone for any deranged reason in his mind.

Invincible really runs on lesser of two evils.

Shame the power creep only applied to Robot's sperg ass and ayylmoas (Battle Beast, Allen) and their adjacents (Tech Jacket). The ayys dying or fading into the background

oh my science i can freaking reasneed molecules!

throws a shitty laserbeam that burns his skin a little or whatever

Yeah

Are knuckles stronger than the face? Are buildings? Because neither of those damaged conquest in any meaningful capacity

It fucked Cockquest up more than anything Mark was doing.

He just got back up and mark had to asspull a victory anyway though

Why didn't Conquests fists make mush out of Mark's face first? He got wailed on far more and Conquest is implied to outclass him all around, is Mark's face stronger than Conquest's fists, and his forehead stronger than Conquest's face?
