one that actually likes him back then. That's why they were so boring in X, they didn't plan it until midway so they barely have any moments. Even the Chaotix said she has more romantic moments with Sonic. And they're basically right Sonic and Knuckles save her more than Tails does.
They'd hit it off initially, but once Scourge realized what a useless jobber she is he'd ditch her and leave her crying by the roadside.

Depends on what day of the week it is Surge’s character changes more often than stock market prices. Current good guy Surge hates him because he torments innocent people. Villain Surge would find him easier to deal with than IDWnic since he’s at least honest about his hedonism but would still try to fight him (and job) if he gets in her way.
Scourge is Sonic-like enough that Surge would hate him regardless of her moral leanings. MK-Ultra reprogramming goes deep.

It certainly was a choice to make a character that's promoted as a psycho badass and then have her repeatedly get her butt handed to her, and not even giving the hero a challenge. Was this idw's plan or were they not paying attention?
Ian's just a bad writer and gives Sonic too many easy wins, and not enough struggles. Whenever he's asked about it he's completely convinced Surge is a badass powerhouse and everyone else is crazy for not respecting his writing of Sonic beating her. Also Evan seems to have a completely different take on her, trying to make her a sad crybaby victim/woobie whenever she's writing, and doesn't try to sync with Ian's at all.
It's not even that Surge loses, it's the presentation of it. You can't rush through a fightscene so quickly and expect everyone to instantly give you praise anyway because of what Surge is *supposed* to be. I feel like Ian's spent more time hyping Surge up in his head than he actually has put to paper.
Same as Evan and Clutch. Hyping him up as a badass all controlling Kingpin crime boss, but he's never actually done anything to make people see him that way.

Honestly it's not even because Shadow is some cool badass guy, IDW made sure to kill any chance of him to be that. It's because he's the only one of the main cast who would put her on her place instead of doing shitty quips, meaningless heroic speeches or trying to be overly nice to her. And she's the type of character who needs to be pushed to learn rather than be coddled.
...pushed to learn what? Suck up to Sonic, like all the cast already does. Kill Eggman like she already wanted to do and Shadow never does. Run in circles around with Sonic calling yourself his "rival" for no reason and basically acting like a dumber version of Bejita.
This is a criticism of them both, they're both completely directionless and pointless. Sonic beating her up and preaching at her about nothing wouldn't make her any more interesting than Shadow beating her up and preaching at her about nothing. They're both gonna go back to being bland wannabe anime tropes twiddling their thumbs in Green Hill at the end of the day.
