Just because Zack Snyder is an absolute idiot doesn't mean you go in the complete, total, opposite direction. That's Hollywood's problem now. It's been Hollywood's problem. When one perspective doesn't work, a perspective which is extreme to begin with, they go in the complete and utterly opposite direction with the next attempt.
Hollywood either doubles down on the first perspective, like with Batman Versus Superman, or they go in the complete opposite, and do what James Gunn is doing.
