The idea of the Greek goddesses caring for mortal women is laughable. The gods don't give a shit about humans unless they are making sacrifices.
If it was DC canon it wouldn't matter, but this explicitly claimed to be mythologically accurate

The gods don't give a shit about humans unless they are making sacrifices.
I thought some cared, at least the roman versions did at least. Anywho, i imagine IRL gods are similarly uncaring of us, since humanity is so lowly compared to what else must be out their in the universe
It's complicated, religious thoughts were constantly evolving, there were radically different views compared to how the "Greeks" in the time of Troy saw religion compared to classical Greece (which the series is apparently based on). Gods were seen as metaphysical aspects and the stories were more allegories (at least for the elite).
Or if they are hot and can be taken as lovers.
turns you into a spider for being a better sewer
Not that I really care that she is black, but why is Athena black in the book
Depending on the version it's not even just that, Athena comes down to challenge Arachne solely out of insecurity when she hears praise for a mortal's skill over her clique.
She acknowledges Arachne is more skilled than her, or at least doesn't protest when the judging crowd leans towards Arachne's craft, but before leaving slips a veiled threat that whatever the case humility would be better than truth.
Arachne brings up how odd it is an Olympian is giving such advice considering they've seldom held to truth or humility in many of their ego driven misadventures.
Athena just snaps and transmogrifies her, no argument, no quiet concession. Just zap, that's for talking back.
Other versions make it out that Arachne was behaving arrogantly before any conversation, but that still doesn't change facts like how the Trojan War happened because the Olympian sorority were arguing over which of them was vain enough for a fucking apple.
That was Ovis, as was the story of the rape of Medusa. He's a good example of why Greco-Roman mythology was so bizarre. Cause one man could make up new HCs where the gods were cruel, petty, violent rulers and that version became popular enough to change the mythology.
The Amazons are superhuman, Aphrodite personally formed Diana out of clay. When you remove that origin it makes a lot less sense, daughter of Zeus kinda helps but doesnt explain the amazons as a whole having preferential treatment. I like to think of them as daughters/pets of Aphrodite
thats almost all religions ever that have pantheons m8. Even today that is occuring with freemasons who view the bible as all symbolic and jesuits/catholics view genesis as mythological. So it still happens.

Realistically and unironically in Greco-Roman myth, their gods were seen as egregores. When the Romans visited Egypt and saw their gods, the Roman's had the excuse that the Egyptians supposed gods were their Greco-Roman gods in that region. So the supposed deities can quite literally be of any race or origin
Youre half right and im not denying that was the Roman perception but the truth of the matter is its the same religion that was passed down from mesopotamia to egypt to Greece, to rome, etc etc they just reskin the pantheon to better suit the culture each time and it always ends up with the same principles to the point you can overlap them and find 1:1 connections and variations of the same story. There were some greek historians that did this too, but obviously any time you try to find all the 1:1 connections there will be differences up to interpretation, but its basically always sun worship/star worship hence even now "mars" and the planets are named after dieties continuing this tradition based around the zodiac and gods as nature, the sun, etc.
Even the hindu/indian stuff does it but they got more creative and weird with it.
well no one wants a black egregore
hence even now "mars" and the planets are named after dieties continuing this tradition based around the zodiac and gods as nature, the sun, etc.
I'm drawn to the fact that the Greeks and romans had the last laugh all those years ago to the present on the naming conventions of the planets being their deities instead of any other culture ( e.g. Aztecans, Mayans, Mesopotamians)
I'm assuming the writers took the fact Aphrodite was an imported Sumerian/Phoenician goddess and must have thought everyone south of Greece must be black, these people are more unironically racist then Anon Babbletards
i hate this traced shit
It's traced?
En shit
Some parts are
Interesting. I thought it was more monolithic for that stretch of time
Yeah my dad is catholic and thinks alot of the bible is mythological
I feel you, perhaps you should look into the freemasons, not that I condone them because I hate their beliefs and practices, but it will enlighten you as to why all of America is themed after greek and roman stuff.
sex with absolute hecate
See, this is why I am not catholic and will never be catholic, the Bible is meant to be taken literally and saying parts of it are myth leads one to misinterpret a lot of it. But I think their denomination like that by design to make people fall in line but thats just my schizo theory.
worship Aphrodite, who was born from the Kronus' dick
the Bible is meant to be taken literally
If you actually dont believe in evolution in 2020+5 you deserve to be dabbed on
Where's Hera?
Some Gods did “care” but this would often amount more to shit like
she took mercy on them by making them die before they were raped
Or
after the women were raped and murdered, their attackers got sick with a plague
The modern ideas of actually preventing this stuff wasn’t really as important narratively
And if one god punished a mortal then another god would give them something in return instead of removing said punishment as they wanted to avoid infighting.
I recall that there was a mortal who was blinded by one god, but then given precog as an ability by another one who took pity on him.
So Greek Myth, especially once you get to the Homer stuff, has this very heavy emphasis on the idea of fate and the things that can't be prevented, reflecting humanity's own lack of control at the time. A running trend of the mythos is that the Gods are just as beholden to this as any mortal, it was consistently shown to be Zeus's worst fear which is why he got so butthurt at Prometheus being able to see the future and not telling him jack.
There was also this idea that the Gods weren't even looking that often, a number of times they find out about the bullshit after the fact
but this explicitly claimed to be mythologically accurate
Fat black Aphrodite should have told you it wasn’t.
inb4 some faggot posts that same fat statue picture
Gods were seen as metaphysical aspects and the stories were more allegories (at least for the elite).
Certain members of the elite maybe, mostly the up and comers.
Old aristocratic families claimed descent from the actual physical gods.
This practice continued to the 10th century where Odin was retooled into a great human Warlord so he could be the ancestor to Saxon Cheiftans.
Although it is worth pointing out that might be how Odin started out in the first place.
C. S. Lewis wrote about this a lot.
And more importantly he wrote about it in a way I am able to understand.
Any specifics you can throw my way?
there is a literal physical garden of eden on earth where god literally has a magic tree among other trees, a river that splits into four, and is guarded by a actual angel with a flaming sword who kills anyone who dares come close
no it is not a metaphor for how god in granting us knowledge of good and evil has made us seperate from animals and made it so we as humans are responsible for the right and wrong actions we take
So uhhhhh any idea where eden and its guards are? Can I take pictures with the guards like buckingham palace?
"Till we have Faces" is a novel that uses different perceptions of the gods as one of its themes.
You can also try G. K. Chestertons "The Everlasting Man" as well but he really loves his sophistry, seems like he's deliberately trying to annoy people with certain arguments.
If you don't like Christian apologetic than they probably aren't for you, but neither if them are as forceful or dogmatic as American Evangelicals, they actually take time to form an arguement.
The flood destroyed it.
based I've enjoyed chestertons non religious works
worth another dive it seems
Alright, it seems pretty interesting to take a dive in to.
Thanks anon.
Wasnt the flood supposed to destroy all the wicked men as well never to come back? Also how come all the animals arent inbreds since there were only 2 of each?
How is all life on the planet descended from a single common ancestor without being inbred?
And anyways it was seven of every clean animal and two of every unclean animal.
