How do you cope with normies constantly spreading misinformation about characters you love
How do you cope with normies constantly spreading misinformation about characters you love
Remember that I'm better smarter and hotter than them and they're irrelevant clowns
basado
I misinform people to gatekeep the stuff I like.
I try to educate people about the actual way the character normally is
That's what you get for not liking normal things.
I've seen people who read more stuff than I did still get things wrong. Even fans still the x-men started as a racial allegory.
the comics industry successfully gatekept comics from normalfags by making comics horrendous dogshit for decades. you should be happy.
Even normal things can be misconstrued by people not understanding it
I’ve always thought the X-Men worked best as a mental health metaphor. It’s constant around the world, it’s usually not diagnosed until the teens with some exceptions, people can either be basically unaffected or have severe symptoms, and people are always trying to “cure” it
Normal things are things like drinking, sports, and beating the shit out of the weak.
Popular consensus and Cultural Osmosis are not a problem.
Just because something is old doesn't make it good.
It's fine stupid or cringe shit gets forgotten.
Do you know how often certain players and teams get construed to be better or worse than they actually are. People still make fun of the Cubs even though they’ve won the World Series multiple times now
Kys you limpwristed faggot
It's just an excuse to get drunk and fight. That's all that matters.
There was a shocking amount of people who thought Injustice happened in the main universe.
Well, Marvel capitalizes on that so it could be intentional. Do some dumb shit in the alternative universe, sell it as something that happens in the main one for publicity.
Remember how Ultimate Peter Parker dying made the news? Nobody cared that it was an alt. universe where characters dying was not even remotely shocking (especially not after Ultimatum), everybody not "in the know" thought Marvel is killing Spider-Man for real.
I've unironically heard normies tell me that and it took all the willpower I had to not sperg out and go "ackshyully" on the spot.
"it happened in the comics"
looks inside
Injustice
This also applies to any other Elseworld or non-canon story.
Back when the Venom movie was still in cinema I was sitting on the bus and I heard two girls sitting behind me talking about it. One asked who he was and the other said he was a new superhero made specifically for the movie. I really had to resist the urge to turn around and correct them. Yes I'm autistic I know.
There was a shocking amount of people who thought Injustice happened in the main universe.
I knew a guy who asked me how could they do that to Superman and I told him it was a different universe so it doesn't matter. Dude also asked me that a second time like I didn't just tell him the day before. Guy was a total follower too. Just agreed with whoever.
Last I checked Ultimate Marvel was told through comics.
So they'd be right.
People who dont read comics probably think its just one chronological story you can follow as long as you go by date.
Honestly, how you felt is a completely normal reaction, at least to me, though I’m also autistic, but wanting to help people know the truth on something, even if it’s insignificant, is completely normal behavior and I’m sick of it being portrayed as someone being a know it all
I envy those fools
the other said he was a new superhero made specifically for the movie
Why do people make assumptions like this and act like they're correct?
I blame the popular perception of Manga for that, even though a lot of Manga isn’t like that either
Thank you anon, I appreciate you saying that. Yeah its an understandable urge and I do think you can correct somebody in a way that doesn't make you come across as a know it all or condescending/patronising. But sometimes like in my situation you just gotta grit your teeth and accept it.
"Whoa can you believe DC did this!?"
it's pre crisis
I really don't know. I guess she just couldn't have been bothered to think about it for more than two seconds. Or maybe she was such a normie she only thinks characters like Spiderman and Superman, like the household name characters existed before the movies and everything else is movie exclusive?
The real answer is probably that she heard it from somebody else and believed it since humans have the uncanny ability to assume anyone we talk to is telling the truth if we know nothing about the subject
You're probably right. Whoever told her that sucks ass.
I mean, that would be much better than what we got.
Most of my favorite characters are pretty obscure.
Leave my autism alone
There is a very similar, if not worse, problem with mythology. Achilles and Patroclus are probably the best example. The Iliad was written in the 800's BC, but the oral traditions are thought to be even older, around 1100-1250 BC. In the Iliad, there is no indication that Achilles and Patroclus were lovers. But when the classical Greeks (literally a thousand years later, a completely different civilization) looked at the Iliad, they did see it as a platonic ideal of pederasty, or the sexual relationship between an adult mentor and a boy. Since there was no evidence that the age difference between Achilles and Patroclus was that great, the Greeks did not know who fit into which role. So we have a play where Achilles is the pedophile who rapes the child Patroclus, and a work where Patroclus is the pedophile.
So you mean fake-normal things
"can you believe Marvel did this"
it's from DC
I always feel really bad for mythology nerds because it’s basically impossible to get an accurate adaptation of any mythology because of all the pop culture additions over the centuries
Which also plays into why people get confused and have a hard time getting into comics
"Which issue do I start with, there's many?!"
When it can be as easy as just googling what is the main universe and what isn't
Honestly, at this point I’ve pivoted from telling people specific issues and instead focus on specific writers. You want Flash, read Waid's run; Suicide Squad, Ostrander; Wonder Woman, Wolfman or Rucka; etc. It makes it much easier to condense characters down for people that way
they did see it as a platonic ideal of pederasty, or the sexual relationship between an adult mentor and a boy
Bunch of perverts inserting their fetishes into the works of others. Nothing's changed.
It really is, because on one side you have Tumblr types who see the whole thing as shitty MCU fanfiction, and on the other side you have Right-wing morons who just hate Christianity and don't understand much about myths either.
The thing is, these practices were common in Mesopotamia (where civilization began), but the Greeks intellectualized it and then basically institutionalized it. If you were elite, you had to get fucked in the ass by your teacher and then you had to do it to another boy as part of teaching them to be a man, You find similar practices in Japan, the Islamic world, and some established settled societies in pre-Columbia America. The persistent aspect of all of these cultures is an extremely sexist culture where women are treated like cattle.
all the interracial cuck posting from AUs (like the one with Sue and BP) that arises any time Marvel Rivals release a new female character
Humans are so fucking disgusting
It must be nice to be a Skrull and be able to look like anything you want, whenever you want. But I don't think its fair to throw that in our faces. Not all species are as ''fluid'' as yours, anon.
The persistent aspect of all of these cultures is an extremely sexist culture where women are treated like cattle.
Women will default to self destruction if left to their own devices. They need men to keep them stable.
How do you deal with the fact that every culture that has treated women this way had institutionalized pederasty?
Sometimes they are right and the version of the character you like only existed for a fleeting period of time.
I'm from the Negative Zone thank you very much
That's what you want us to think
the version of the character you like only existed for a fleeting period of time.
Me with Spider-Man TAS.
I'd post a pic but Blastaar and Annihilus bombed my planet and left it unrecognizable.
That... sounds exactly like something they would do. Maybe you are telling the truth after all...
