Actually, thinking back, Ian had something in mind to basically restore the old versions of the characters that didn't get Pender'd. But that was the least likely scenario, at best Sega would have probably just allowed memory restoration (which they did at first). But yeah's it's at least a nice alternative to think about. But if I'm being honest, the reboot was a tragedy that deserves appreciation. A punch in the gut that overrode previous narratives without feeling too forced, considering what was happening in the background. Turns out that friendship and love capable of transcending time and space wasn't enough, that Sonic's speed wasn't enough, and Evil (Eggman) was granted the ultimate victory. The good guys don't always win. It sounds like a very simply subversion when I just break it down like this but after reading the entire comic it hurts and it hurts good.

Ian and co (And Sega) did not expect Ken to gain the upper-hand in the lawsuit, so when everything was finalized, Sega stepped in and forced everyone to immediately reboot everything. I'm honestly surprised that they were able to pull off what they did, it was genuinely enjoyable, from the first half of the SGW to the megaman crossover. Anyhow, it was quite literally the best outcome because of legal issues. They straight up couldn't use the old continuity anymore and Sega wanted stuff to be more aligned with the games.

By that time, Sega was becoming more game-purist and was also getting annoyed with Archie so they simple just didn't bother and forced a reboot.
