It didn't help Kyle that even after Hal put on his cape and pauldrons, Hal continued to overshadow him. Execution of the concept aside, Parallax was one of the most daring concepts the Big 2 has ever come up with. He was a legitimate superhero that turned bad not from mind control or magic but because he was pushed off the deep end. His redemption arc first in Final Night, then in Last Will and Testament of Hal Jordan, and then as the Spectre was critically acclaimed. So even while Hal was theoretically out of the picture he was still overshadowing Kyle.

Morrison gave him a nice dynamic on the JLA where he was the new, young guy on the team unsure of himself and kind of aware that he was the poochie. He got along with Wally more than Superman because they were closer in age and were legacies. He was often unsure of himself and asked his teammates what he should do. He was the Firestorm of his generation.

Then writers started to strip away everything that made him unique. The GLC came back, so he was no longer the last Lantern with the last power ring. Hal came back, and because Johns retconned him into being possessed by an evil yellow space monster, Kyle's initial character arc lost all its appeal and uniqueness.

What does it matter that he inherited a tainted legacy when the legacy was never tainted? What does it matter that he was the last lantern when he wasn't the last lantern?

Hao transcends to to a higher plane of existence by endgame so "killing" the body doesn't do much. He basically has dominion of the universe and reality. He isn't lacking in terms of firepower since he is casually whipping out supernovas and black holes while not taking the fight remotely seriously. His real power comes from his (soul) hax since he can fuck you up six ways from Sunday on that front

In lore Kamina had low spiral energy output but was able to basically rez himself long enough to give Simon a pep talk. If Simon was the one to die the gang probably gets as far as Lord Genome since I'm not sure Kamina could pull it off but hey fighting Spirit is bull shit
