Lion King 2019 earned two billion dollars off of the success of the beloved animated Lion King
Mufasa earned only 750 million at the boxoffice, a drop of over a billion dollars compared to the previous film, because the Lion King 2019 was utter shit.
Lilo and Stitch could just be 90 minutes of literally flipping of the audience and it would still earn a billion because the animated movie is beloved. But bad movies cause long term brand damage. Things are profitable until suddenly they're not, see Avengers.
Was Hollywood always this slop-filled? I tend to think it was, but then I remember that you’d still get a handful of decent movies every year among all the terrible ones. I guess it feels less like there’s “an abundance of slop” and and more an abundance of audiences who are more than willing to give slop a billion dollars. Why are audiences so lame now? All the most soulless movies break records.

It's exactly what you said. It was still full of slop but there were at least genuinely good movies getting made and even getting popular. Big studios would even expressly make prestige films that were made just to be good as a means of boosting their reputation. Nowadays good movies don't get any attention at all and big studios just push out straight trash.
That makes the whole movie pointless.
Worse, it makes the movie's character arc with Nami giving the fuck up on her sister to go to college what the actual fuck, that's her character arc, that's what she builds to.
That's what happens when studios gains monopoly, they become lazy.

That property in that location on that island is like $1.5 million - $2 million. If this were pre-2008 or pre-2020 it'd be much more like $2-2.5 million. Assuming Nani didn't just outright list and sell the property to a Facebook exec, she could take out a reverse mortgage on it to fund her entire college tuition or rent it out as an AirBnB or VRBO for $500/night with the neighbor also acting as a property caretaker (assuming the state doesn't crack down on them since AirBnB and vacation rentals are illegal in Hawaii).
