"His" version of Supergirl was created by John Byrne, and the fact that it wasn’t Superman’s cousin was an idea DC editorial liked a lot and enforced from COIE until 2006-ish, so David had no choice in this.
What he did have a choice was to write "Many Happy Returns", which was the first appearance of Kara post-crisis. Of course editorial insisted this appearance was temporary, but it paved the way for her proper return a couple years later.
Also, it is by far the best Supergirl run.

It did lay the groundwork for the team though, but David said those were the characters he was mandated/allowed to use. His first draft had Secret instead of Raven, and her and Starfire in a love triangle with Robin. The second draft had him go with Raven instead, presumably with the triangle still intact.

He was also responsible for writing all four issues of Disney Comics' miniseries on The Little Mermaid, as well as the bookending parts of the two-issue Sebastian comic. It's a pity he didn't get to do more, because he had a good handle on the characters for what he did write.

Of course, to some degree, horrors that I witnessed and that have weighed on me for two decades are now gone. The kids’ lives are no doubt horrible, assuming they’re even still alive, but at least it didn’t happen because of what their parents did.
So I hereby apologize to every Romani that I offended with my comments.
Of course, I could apologize to the gentleman who I attacked. Which I did. Over the course of two days. Over Thursday and Friday I spent a LOT of time at my artist alley table talking with him, hearing him out, discussing how I could improve the portrayal of Romani in the pages of the comics that I write. But after all that, he then insisted I arrange a meeting with editorial at Marvel. I told him that that was beyond my power to do. I guess what it comes down to is, when you’ve done everything you can to make it up to someone you’ve wronged and they demand the impossible, then you just have to shrug and know that you’ve done your best.
Just as I’m sure that this apology will likewise not be enough for some people. But you do what you can.
So for what it’s worth, I will continue to treat Romani characters with respect, just as I have for twenty years with Quicksilver, and I again apologize to any Romani who I have offended because of my rash actions. And I also want to thank all the family, fans and friends of mine who have stepped in to defend me, knowing that I am no racist, but simply someone who feels passionately about things and sometimes opens his mouth when it would be better to keep it shut.

Will your Kodak FunSaver 35 produce a visual work on par with the Mona Lisa? No. That’s not the point. The point is, it doesn’t have to. Artists can, and do, continue to express themselves. But they no longer have a lock on pictorial pieces of history.
And with computers, artists’ monopoly on animation and comics will likewise evaporate. I firmly agree with artists who say that visualization is the most important aspect of comics. I think it’s self evident that excellent art can elevate a mediocre story, whereas a superb story can be made unreadable by lousy art.
But if artists such as Kricfalusi think that they are the be-all and end-all of animation and comics… that the lack of drawing ability by one segment of the working populace means that that segment is inherently inept, untalented or inferior… then such artists are kidding themselves.
If the notion of artwork on computers remains unthinkable to you, well… I presume that, ten years ago, the concept of lettering and coloring on computers would have likewise seemed absurd. Here’s news: It’s no longer absurd. It’s routine.
History and progress says that artists do not have a lock on their “elevated” position in the hierarchy of visual entertainment. Not by any means.
Kricfalusi’s bellowing about all writers of comics and animation being, by definition, bad, does not make one think of an informed opinion. Creators such as Wendy and Richard Pini, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Dave Sim…these are people with talent and vision whose muses have produced titles whose subject matter doesn’t fit in with the Marvel and DC universes. Alan Moore did not cite disgust with DC’s business practices and go off to develop a new character named “Muck Monster.” He did “Big Numbers.” The Pinis had so much confidence in their elves that they were driven to produce “Elfquest” themselves, which thrives to this day while Marvel’s own “take” on elves, “Weirdworld,” vanished without a trace a decade ago. (Ironically, Marvel’s “Epic” imprint later reprinted “Elfquest.”)
So when a creator boldly announces that he’s off to start his or her own line, my presumption and hope is that it’s going to be something new and visionary. It doesn’t have to be highly marketable. Indeed, Marvel and DC’s main flaw is that titles are expected to draw significantly higher sales than an independent would reasonably expect for his piece of the market pie. So “Hard Boiled” doesn’t have to sell like “X-Men.” No one expects it to.
If Todd said, “I’ve been dying to do a good romance comic,” I’d be thrilled. If Erik said, “My life’s goal is to produce a solid western,” I’d be impressed.
So what’s Image publishing?

I think David and Bob Harras are the only writers to ever give much of a shit about Quicksilver. And with PAD I don't know if it was so much that he loved Pietro as much as he seemed to enjoy taking characters and finding interesting angles and hooks for them. Arguably that X-Factor issue where Pietro complains about how slow the world is to someone like him had a large effect on the way speedsters in comics are portrayed overall, not just Quicksilver.
He should have received the proper healthcare and a correct compensation for all his great work, but most of his financial problems were for not paying his taxes. So even if I want to bash marvel and the mouse, he made part of his own demise. Remember, pay your taxes.

Fair royalties for what? Reprints? It's a challenge to get the big two to reprint anything to begin with.
If it's royalties for characters they created, all that does is encourages writers to not build on existing characters but to create new terrible characters, that is the reason Bendis created characters like Riri instead of a real legacy character. He wanted royalties on her. The same reason Snyder created Signal instead of using an established black Batfamily member. Most bad DEI characters are actually just creators trying to get royalties instead of building on established characters. Would EVERY writer who ever wrote a character get royalties if they are used? Comics are a work for hire businesses for a reason, it's the only way a shared universe like this can work.
You have to solve the actual issues, making Marvel and DC pay healthcare and retirement.
