Everything
Well, I decided to drop out of High School and now I work at a soul-crushing factory job to make ends meet.
As for what went wrong for the movie? Dunno, maybe not enough Sentry.
It was the first movie I've watched where you can tell the writers are zoomers.
now I work at a soul-crushing factory job to make ends meet.
Anon, that's nearly everyone now, including CS college grads
You're no longer alone
Outside of Bucky, the casual audience has no clue who these characters are
Fucking called it months ago when BNW flopped
People for whatever reason believed that this shit had a chance.
F4 also has high chances of underperforming
Legitimately one of the better post Endgame projects. A shame too
This. Back when everything in the MCU was a hit, it was possible to get people to turn out for new characters. Now the only MCU movies that are hits are the ones with super-familiar characters (Black Panther 2 is sort of an exception but it's a special case).
This is normal for a movie with nobodies and B-listers, it's just that Feige greenlit it at a time when he still thought nobodies and B-listers were enough with the Marvel brand behind it.
It's still wild to me that their big promo for Avengers: Doomsday consisted of chairs with the names of the Thunderbolts cast, the FF cast, and all the B-list X-Men.
They should have released this first and bat girled brave new world
BNW flopped so hard that it hurt the reception of this movie
It wasn't crossover slop like Deadpool and Wolverine.
glowing reviews
Everything gets "Glowing reviews" nowadays, especially cape flicks. People obviously tuned out of that.
It would have flopped even without bnw
Also this is sort of a holdover from the days when Feige thought the Disney+ shows would be a launching pad for movie characters. "The Marvels" proved how wrong that was and this has that problem in a less extreme way, being partly a followup to "The Falcon & the Winter Soldier" with two characters who made their debut there.
It paid for the sins of Eternals, Love and Thunder, Quantumania and Brave New World, a barrage of stinkers. Let's pray for its soul.
glowing reviews
No one cares what (paid) reviewers think.
having the word "Avengers" attached to the marketing
Iron Man is dead.
Black Widow is dead.
Captain America is old.
Thor is a joke.
Hulk even more so.
Hawkeye? To be fair, I have no idea.
Those were the Avengers people wanted to see.
Brave New World had mediocre reviews compared to Thunderbolts, and Sony's spin-offs, even Venom, can be treated as cinematic war crimes. Capeshit is not a sacred cow genre anymore. Look at this nigga tear BNW a new asshole, I love it.
Kneel
Same studio
Circle of life, anon. The show must go on.
This has nothing to do with why it didn't do well, but it still vexes me that they had the perfect setup for the original Thunderbolts premise -- the Avengers are gone, the world is traumatized and wants new heroes to believe in -- and they didn't do it because Feige doesn't care about comics before the 21st century (using Thanos was Joss Whedon's idea).
Maybe there is a sort of sub-explanation which is that this movie didn't have much of a premise, while "villains pretend to be heroes" is an actual premise.
They seemed to think that the Avengers reveal would be enough of a twist except that, as someone already said, "The Avengers" to most of the world means the established MCU stars, not these people or even the team Sam is putting together.
It wasn’t a great movie, people overhyped it and the hype died within a week.
Hawkeye isn’t coming back because after the actor had an accident Marvel thinks he’s worth less
Eric Pearson, the man who wrote the script, is 40.
Joanna Calo, the woman who rewrote the script into something that wasn't a blamd pile of shit worse than Cap4, is 44.
I was told it didnt matter what my college degree was, i could still get a great paying job. Now I'm in debt and working for 20 dollars an hour at a customer service job. I hate everyone who lied to us and said we all needed college degrees.
The problem is they put Pugh up front in marketing
It really isnt. Just cause a turd is shinier doesnt make it any less shit.
It's genuinely insane how hard parents and teachers pushed college. Telling you that if you work a retail/service/blue collar job, you're worthless
Ah well, at least the recession will humble a lot of people
I pray it's soul goes screaming into the pit.
Sebastian Stan wasn't in the mood to market the movie
youtube.com
Doesnt include inflation, so it's worthless. Also assumes its profit makes it in anyway betrer than the original, making it worth even less than that.
My mom wouldnt even let me go to community college to get the basic credits out of the way.
All they had to do was not put Pugh at the very front of every poster.
She's the protag tho
They wasted Sentry on this. One of t he most powerful beings in the MCU and they choose to have a bunch of regular humans and a handful of knockoff supersoldiers to show off his power.
The last several movies with her (including Oppenheimer) were hits or huge hits. Deal with how the issue is Marvel bleeding casual audiences, not her. She was great here.
Stan was busy filming another movie while other members of the cast where marketing this. Once his schedule cleared he was shown plastering movie posters after release, he's always been supportive of the movie.
I went into Thunderbolts expecting it to be shit, I left thinking only 20% of its online criticism is worth considering, 40% of it is just comicfags upset for the exact same reason they're upset with every other capeshit film and the other 40% of it comes from people who have not and will not watch the movie but still insist on having people listen to their opinion on it anyway.
It's not bad and it's not shit, but it's not amazing and it's not even great, it's only okay, and that's good enough, because it could've been mediocre.
It literally was.
Finding out the original script pre-2023 strike had Walker be convinced by the worst manipulator in his to overdose on Supersoldier Serum and become a Hulk before being talked down by the Thunderbolts made me appreciate the "Sentry Cut" even more.
Buck Broken Bucky with Marvel TV Slop characters and some bad actress with a worse accent
*Stamps your Fell for the Mythical Progressive Audience Again card*
This was the best possible way to introduce him to the MCU actually. The Bolts are filled with supersoldiers and Bob's comic origin is tied to the Captain America project. So what if the Bolts can't beat him him in a straight fight? That's been the case in the comics even when fighting the actual Avengers, pic related. It would have been dumb to introduce him in a Doctor Strange or Thor movie. Part of what makes this movie great is how it handles Bob better than what comics have been doing for years. And there is speculation he could have a big role in the next Avengers movies.
Stamps your Fell for the Mythical Progressive Audience Again card
antagonist is a lonely depressed white man who is defeated by recieving actual affection for the first time in forever
Huh?
It's not about beating him, it just lessens the impact of how powerful he is when his opponents aren't that powerful themselves.
Most normies I've talked to who watched it found it boring and preferred Captain America 4.
They all liked the Sentry, though.
Prolly cause the action part of the movie is really small in comparison to Falcon's movie.
if it makes you feel better they're passing over engineering grads for h1b visas at record rates.
There are no safe degrees anymore. That bogus art degree is really only bogus if you thought it was going to make you money in the first place
t. physics
Bingo. Plus the hug finale is rather anticlimatic.
So this.
Ok cool he can tank puncehs from D-listers and then is cured by a hug. And we supposed to think the void is some actual threat?
Eh Marvel fatigue, also people stopped going to the movies for the most part. I saw it and it was a good movie, but honestly it’s not worth rushing to the theater for. It’s perfect for on Disney plus it’s like Ironman 3 not bad but nothing that makes it amazing.
What the FUCK went wrong?
If you're too retarded to see the extremely obvious things that were wrong yourself, someone else explaining it to you isn't going to help you understand.
D&P was crossovering with Fox characters from eras when that mattered, Deadpool who never went away, Hugh Jackman Wolverine who was there for all of modern capeshit, and fucking Blade.
Yelena was in a movie but it was a dual release due to the pandemic and was not the main lead. D+ show characters are proven now to be commercial fodder. Bucky peaked in movies a decade ago.
So the movies are not comparable, just be glad we got a good movie in case Fantatic Four shits the bed.
He did a remake of the first Avengers movie invasion, only it was city-wide nightmare dimension rather than aliens going pow-pow. It's something I suspect Valentina will struggle to explain in her upcoming PR return tour.
Some people got put into a little nightmare for a few minutes
Hardly on the same scale as the invasion from the first Avengers movie.
community college is a 50/50 of whether its going to be a scam with no transferable credits or not
it can make school a lot cheaper. it can also fuck you over
Phase 4 opened with Black Widow, and Phase 5 closed with Black Widow.
Phase 4 opened with Taskmistress getting incinerated
Phase 5 closed with Taskmistress getting incinerated
kino
The timing couldn't be more perfect, seeing how there are knock-off Supermans running about with the real article about to make his redebut against the fakers.
the real article
written by Gunn
for the silver age stuff he's putting in the movie, i'm not expecting it to be comic accurate at all, Gunn doesn't know what those words mean.
sorry buck, you're gonna have to rename your web domain
The problem is that the MCU tended to kill all it's villain. The roster for the thunderbolts here is pretty much everyone we have sans the Spider-Man villains (I assume they're cucked by Sony), Abomination (has become zen or something) and Zemo (who's way too different from the comics to really work).
And the premise is pretty simple, a bunch of broken, disposable glowie agents decide to do some good for once.
Some people
All of New York was covered, you won't fool me
Few minutes
Nah, starting with Hoult getting shadowed, everything about the Bolts reuniting to help civilians in the streets, and everything they went through the Void dimension, which they only escaped, including releasing the populace, because they bonded with Bob for the entire prior of the movie. The creator of the Sentry, who consulted this movie, said he's not supposed to be about power but pIn, even if he's certainly supposed to be powerful.
not supposed to be about power but pain
Fixed
This raises a question; how the fuck is the name "Avengers" NOT already patented? Wouldn't Tony have done that already years ago, and now owned by Pepper?
Were they implying that spending too much time inside the void wouldn't ultimately decay victims to nothing? Because there are at least 2 guys in that Malaysian lab not coming back
What the FUCK went wrong?
MCU didn't end after Endgame. That's what went wrong.
For how much shit that goes in the MCU, why is the world so fucking static and still {current year} levels of technology and vibe?
Sam hasn't respected the law since Civil War, he only wants to use it because that's the easiest way to get what he wants, actual villain behavior.
Do you mean the guys in the helicopter that probably burned to death when transported back to the real world in the middle of a burning copter?
Otherwise Bob said the Rooms were about causing pain not outright death, like a PG-13 version of the Labyrinth fom Hellraiser movies.
That's a shame because the flick was pretty decent
It’d be funnier if he willed it away to Peter.
It's my favorite MCU film, even above Infinity War, Winter Soldier, etc. It genuinely upsets me it will never get a sequel and they'll probably kill most of them off to prop up RDJ Doom. All because most of phase 4/5 is unwatchable garbage.
My guess is that one of the reasons Doomsday is getting delayed to next December is because they’re rewriting the script to feature the Thunderbolts in a more positive light.
Audience polling and review means more to them than the total box office worldwide. Because it usually means a strong sequel performance.
No as I clearly said, the two victims in THE LAB. There are shadow marks at the beginning of the movie where they first experimented on Bob
I’m sure they’re fine.
They're not marketed to get a direct sequel, don't worry. Just marketing another franchise movie and being confirmed to be in the next Avengers which will be successful no matter what should be enough. Sentry is immortal in comics and film, I don't think Doom will job him him for too long.
Phase 4-6 has been a complete misfire that soured the general public's attitude towards the MCU. Rumors are that the next two Avengers films are supposed to be a new beginning for the MCU because they fucked up that bad.
YELENA
IT'S YOUR DAD
DON'T GO INTO THE VAULT
VALENTINA IS GONNA BURN YOU ALIVE
Why Quill? He's not even the leader of the GotG anymore, that's Rocket.
Yeah, but how much of a new beginning?
Just a jumping on point or straight up new recast Iron Man/Cap/Etc.?
…Who the fuck is Peter Parker?
If the Void can shadow teleport a couple random scientists from an overseas Malaysia location he was in years ago into his current dimension in New York, tha's even more impressive than I thought.
Like hell they are
It's a movie that is not as overtly fucking retarded as BNW, but it is still a pretty mediocre movie with a ton of wasted characters and a plot that doesn't really make sense, wholly dependent on the pathos of a character that has a single terrible movie to her name where she wasn't even the main character.
Sentry is alright though. Too bad he only really gets one fight scene where he beats up a bunch of weak losers.
They retired to Belize.
What the FUCK went wrong?
In entertainment. You're only as good as your last movie.
I don't know the timeline of how this film was rewritten, but it feels like they were taking cues from the success of "WandaVision" with the "mental health is the real villain" theme.
I saw someone post that the MCU can now use Bob instead of bringing back Wanda because Bob is now such a fan favorite, and I would not put it past a person at Disney to actually be dumb enough to believe this.
The "glowing reviews" are astroturfed by Disney.
Ever wonder how this movie might have played different had The Punisher/Frank been on the team?
You can say he's ain't worth DICK to them!
Renner was easily the dullest part of the MCU, and at times he had some stiff competition.
Why would that be dumb? People clown on Wanda’s selfish ass all the time now.
Walker is still wearing his wedding ring under his glove.
I think you're mistaking a few online voices for the broader world but again, Disney thought the world would be equally excited about a new Captain America or Black Widow, why wouldn't they think the new, improved mentally-ill overpowered hero would be just as popular as the more expensive one?
Because Bob is being received unexpectedly well by both audiences and critics. Nobody cares about Wanda. Not even the characters in universe care about her.
It makes sense when you realize that everyone involved unironically failed to understand basic supply/demand economics and derarification.
College boom started sith the GI boom, with the idea being that degrees, being rare were in high demand so well run our troops getting them for their post military careers, which had the side effect of bloating colleges and making them realize they could be selling a product essentially, commercializing things.
It also built a cultural idea of a degree as a magical medallion that would just get you a job, and a high paying one, and early on it was a fairly safe, cheap investment since colleges weren't as corrupt and wouldn't be aware of what they could get away with, and from there over time it became an expectation for how to secure a good life even as it became a billion dollar industry.
The problem was that degrees got more and more expensive even as they became more and more expected, and the supply of degree holders went up more and more which devalued said degree holders as a product to companies, because everyone forgets that a company is essentially "buying" labor and can get picky because like you it will pay more for things that are rare and useful.
So basically the market tanked because it became bloated with oversupply that costs too much to produce except in this case it's your labor as degrees became the norm and the base level expectation rather than the rarified exception.
At this point the only realistic way to solve it is to cause a kind of intentional bubble burst effect by finding a way to adjust the rarification and cost of a degree, probably by making a bachelor's or associates so cheap that the new standard is actually cheaply attainable and trying to re-rarify beyond that point to inflate their value but it's unlikely. The only other solution is for the entire industry to collapse which isn't happening.
Posts the shitty, fake suicide squad thunderbolts.
Newfags were a mistake.
MCU is an event to bring your girlfriend and toddlers to.
Funnily enough, Sentry actually predates Omni-Man and Homelander.
How fucking high did Walker jump when he was trying to escape the vault? Spider-Man shit.
You will never be Captain America.
You have no super strength, you have no indomitable spirit. Every form of public support you get is astroturfed by Disney. Behind the screens, audiences lauchg at you. You are a foot soldier, twisted by a bird costume into a crude mockery of Steve's perfection.
Thanos's snap hindered development for the years it was active, then nobody knew how to restart after the blip.
Then, uh..... Wakanda began taking back its vibranium even after T'Challa willed that it be shared with the world, then all the nations of the world began rushing to the dead Celestial in the Indian Ocean to get their share of adamantium, which is also better than vibranium.
It's okay. They've got a buddy in the Void who's always with them.
Its a bunch of characters nobody gives a shit about except Bucky who was ruined in FWS plus US Agent who was gonna be the antagonist because they have some weird hateboner for that character
Its like the shitty bootleg version of The Suicide Squad with a bolted on ''mental health'' message it doesn't utilize well at all. I thought it would be Marvel playing it safe and just making dumb action soldiers movie but I guess not
Aren't Netflix/Defenders characters barred from appearing in the newer movies?
I got a job with my arts degree.
I joined a graduate program after 5 years of applications, focusing on my ability to write. Having done call centre work prior.
Now I’m doing well enough.
It’s about applications and not falling into despair.
Audiences and critics don't mean much for a movie with a (relatively) small audience and a decimated critical profession.
It's not so much about Wanda (she is their most popular female character ATM but that shows how much they fucked up with every female character they have) but the MCU people deciding that they could slide new characters in to replace the ones who were dead or semi-retired, and that might have worked in the 2010s when every MCU project was a hit, but now they're largely dependent on the characters from the 2000s/2010s when superhero movies were riding high.
Does that mean Yelena could have been a popular substitute for Natasha when the MCU was riding high? Probably. The 2010s feel like a different time, even a movie as flawed as Captain Marvel could be a hit.
General audiences see a bunch of characters they don't know and think they missed a movie (they did).
Marvel should do a marathon rerelease of their films, maybe do a 'extended edition' release and catch people up. A film edit of the TV shows too.
Well, for $15 per month, you can subscri-----[USER WAS BANNED FOR ADVERTISING]
I’m not reading all of that. Quit rambling and get to the point.
Supersoldiers are superhuman in MCU. They have gone way beyond "peak human" almost from the start.
The last several movies with her (including Oppenheimer) were hits or huge hits
Nobody went to see DUNC or Oppenheimer because of her dude don’t be retarded.
Characters introduced in the 2020s will never be as popular as characters introduced when the MCU was at its peak.
They're a nostalgia company now.
it's only okay, and that's good enough, because it could've been mediocre.
You having a high tolerance for garbage doesn’t mean that’s the normal person’s opinion
That’s retarded, and so are you.
I do think a major problem is they don’t show the movies on ABC/Disney/FX and think people are going to pay for D+ to watch these turds.
Make a big “movie of the week” slot on ABC to fill time after the NBA Finals and let normals watch them.
If Sam is suing for copyright infringement, that means he (or maybe Pepper) already holds the patent.
It was good enough to spawn at least one schizo fan who spams these threads with the same half-dozen anime-inspire fanart and seethes endlessly about Captain Falcon.
Do normies even watch live TV? I think most normies actually have D+, even if just for their kids. The most normie people I know do. Movie of the week slot sounds like a good idea though.
I think an extended editions and movie edits for the Disney+ shows would be a good 'encouraging people to rewatch and get in the mood to watch more' bait.
patent
Those are for designs. They’re basically copyrights for technical documentation.
Sam owns the trademark. Not a patent.
The only schizo here is you. Not everyone you disagree with is the same guy.
Do normies even watch live TV
Yes, the cord cutting narrative was just bullshit pushed by companies to make it sound like the new thing to do. NBA playoff ratings, for instance, are up.
Yes, it's a whole bunch of people posting the exact same fanart with the exact same filenames and comments and using the exact same wording.
Yes.
Are we supposed to like Sam at this point?
it was like 10 meters i think, crazy shit.
It's not something people are going to rush out and see. It's not the first major crossover. It's not the first marvel movie starring lesser known heroes. It's a solid movie. But nothing about it is must-see, especially with all this competition in theaters. I saw it, it was fine. But they've been making this shit for almost 20 years. Even a good one is just another one.
i like to believe the theory that the Russo Brothers hate Falcon, because it'd be really funny.
He did nothing wrong.
What the FUCK went wrong?
but but but
/co kept insisting Bob and new Not Steve were 'hugely' popular????
they are popular
just not Early MCU-tier, where you could present a fucking Stilt-Man & Shocker Heist movie and get like 500 millions and a sequel.
He’s a terrorist sympathizer.
