Animation is dead. Live action movies are the future

why do people like live action so much more than animation

With or without inflation?

The marketing lies and acts like it's embodying the spirit of the original and that's what always pisses me off about these things. If you look at the image on the left it makes the movie look serviceable. Like a passively fun venture to recreate it, but sincerely. Just exploring it in live action but with no ill intent. But the movie itself can't even sincerely focus on its own themes or characters. It's maddening.

They see cartoons as something for children and live action as real movies.

They basically see the animated one as a prototype and the live action remake as the true, mature version of the film

Animation is for dumb diaper wearing babies, live action is for respectable adults.

t. Norman Normie

The consequences of the 1970s

It has never been more over

But with all the green screen and CG, live action movies are mostly animation these days too. At least the big blockbuster ones

Live action has better graphics.

That's genuine how they see it. 2D isn't a medium with its own style and advantages to them. It's something film makers have to do because of a lack of budget or technology. Thanks to advances CGI, we no longer need to bother with 2D.

Still brain poisoned that cartoons are for kids

Normalfags still adore big budget realism + "graphics", and it's seen as more mature from both kids and adults. Something like Avatar was able to coast entirely off of people's thirst for that kind of thing. It's the same thing with vidya.

Without, obviously. The original would half made 480 million with inflation, so the remake hasnt REALLY surpassed it.

i never understood why the circumstances of the industry are as bad as they are over there in burger world
i thought of you guys's as the best for a long time but now it's not an admirable thing recently

LA slop has no soul, so it resonates more with the soullless human cattle known as normalfags.

in B4 Disney uses this movie's success to justify un-cancelling that live-action Tangled remake they were planning.

Besides what others have said, for some reason there emerged this weird modern “meta” where in order to make people (Americans) take 2D animation seriously, you have to call it “anime”

I'm the opposite. Live action remakes are just an inferior, redundant version that's solely and shamelessly meant to make money because they're also safe to do

take 2D animation seriously, you have to call it “anime”

Now that I really think about it, I've noticed it a lot more, like with blood of zeus, castlevania, HGS and pic related, though Cassandra Complex looks cool as hell regardless
youtube.com/watch?v=dOv2keIL4RU

Which is weird because most anime is extremely childish. Even a lot of the ones that sell themselves as mature just add blood and tits to the childish writing, a 13 year olds idea of maturity

Not to stray too far off topic here, but

All these attempts, and yet none of them understand what makes actual anime so appealing

Every time

Anon Babble has no room to talk about media that's childish in any regard

to be fair, the word "cartoon" will always sound pretty childish and makes most people think of looney tunes stuff. It sounds weird calling something like ALTA a cartoon, and not just because of the anime influence
TT03 was pretty close in my opinion

Having been rewatching it recently, in retrospect, yes, it is the closest in terms of trying to capture the tone of most successful shounen anime

It's not really there, but closer than all of Powerhouse's garbage.

earnest question, is this actually a USA-specific problem? like shitposters would usually pivot into an east vs. west thing but what about Europe, South America, etc., is there any kind of similar stigma against 2D animation?

obviously without
the post is a marketing ploy to get people to think the movie is more popular than it is

I can't speak for all of Europe, but places like France and Italy seem to hold some kind of respect for animation, and 2D in particular. While the UK and Germany seem to have their views more in line with Burgerland

Make this what you will.

Are you that stupid?

Live Action is just as lame as soulless AI art.

Li&StiRe has more soul than the original

Any retard who says this basically outs themselves as being too autistic to watch anything without pretty colors.

The insane part to me is that the "it's anime" part comes entirely from a Netflix marketing gimmick before they could get their hands on the actual licensing rights. Even before Castlevania you'd have all these generic action series being called "all new original anime" from Netflix and even the artstyle was more akin to a comic book adaptation

People are more sociopathic than they think they are. A lifetime of learning to provoke included an intuitive response to provocation, which is much harder to synthesize through animation. Without which, the prospective audience feels the experience is much more hollow than intended.

The original came out 23 years later.

Animation is dead

hey buddy you just wake up out of a 20 year long coma?

I honestly don't get how people can see cheesy childish shit like Superman soaring through the sky and making stupid serious expressions with a wide angle lense and it somehow feel more mature than watching a cartoon. I can actually watch cartoons, but I feel second hand embarrassment seeing trailers for superhero movies trying to look deep and serious but still having a guy with his fists out shooting across the sky and making "oh god... the murder of innocents... the world is hell and we're part of it" up close reaction shots of some dude dressed as superman.

People here in the UK do hold some respect and pride for our home grown animation, like Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the sheep and Paddington

Shut up shill

I think people hearing "anime" and thinking "more serious" might actually be an extension of the graphics/fidelity thing that anons have already mentioned, i.e. when people see a fairly anatomically-correct character with at least 1 layer of geometrically-accurate shading they view it as "serious", but the more and more that you stray away from that look the more that people start to instinctively view it as silly cartoon stuff.

Cope faggot

it has it's own faux anime charm I like

Normalfags are fucking brainless.

Fucking end me

Shitney is just going to churn out this slop endlessly, god damn

Live action Gravity Falls may exist in our future

the word "cartoon" will always sound pretty childish and makes most people think of looney tunes stuff

The original Looney Tunes were never intended specifically for children, at least not until theatrical shorts died.

The Big Bang Theory is considered one of the worst sitcoms ever made, yet it lasted 12 years and outlived huge cartoons such as Phineas and Ferb, Adventure Time, MLP, Gumball, BoJack Horseman and Regular Show.

people

normalfags are barley human, even if they contribute to society

Confirmed live action remakes coming soon

Moana

Moana 2

Hercules

Tangled (got cancelled but it may get uncancelled because of stitch's success)

Lion King 2019 remake

Pocahontas

barely*

The original came out 23 years later.

How much did the world population increase since then?

If somebody told me I only had an hour to love, I'd spend it choking a Disney exec. I'd do it nice and slow.

I know, it's just that normalfags think caroony/exaggerated animation and designs must automatically make something for kids. They can't actually judge the content of the work since aren't able to see beyond the presentation

They'll end up having Dipper stay in Gravity Falls because "follow your dreams" or some other dumb shit

It's too late. Your curse has already been cast. Normalfags around the planet are all mysteriously transforming into lumps of grains.

It's odd to say it earned more than the original movie when the original movies made billions of dollars in merchandise.

Without, but you have to also factor in all the hollywood accounting they're doing with the CGI. When they inevitably pretend like they only made five bucks from the movie after the CGI and "marketing" bills are paid they'll have squirrelled away several tens of millions, which they could never have done by paying animators in America or Japan to draw stuff. So in the end the suits with the offshore accounts will have made many more taxfree millions than they did with original, which is the real reason why CGI slop will continue.

normal fags turn into barley humanoid monsters and all the autists of the world have to fight them off

Would we win?

cope lmao

The reality is that Lilo and Stitch was always a very mid movie with questionable morals.
The sister being able to get a college degree rather than being forced to take care of Lilo is a much happier ending than the government-phobic original that hated child protective services for no good reason.

Bad bait try again

I don't even think this is the case, it's recency bias + social media bias + inflation + international markets

compare lilo and stitch original run:

brand new IP

2d animation

released 2002

no social media: only word of mouth, a couple commercials, some interview on some morning show perhaps

Budget 80 mill, Box Offce: 273 mill (inflation adjust: ~$143mil, ~$489mil)

over half of box office is domestic

today:

old IP that disney has been sitting on that has been gathering dust who people are nostalgic for

live action to save money

released 2025

media everywhere, can't go a second without seeing something

Budget: 100 mill, Box Office (current): 341.7mill

already, approaching 2/3 of the box office being international

And again, Disney is a bigger more rich company than it's ever been. It's actually very embarrassing they can only manage this kind of pull. Then the media going all, "OMG, THE REMAKES MAKE MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL! YOOOOOO" is so fucking retarded every single time.

Acting like the new movie exists in a vacuum— like the people going to see it aren't kids who watched the first version on VHS 6568925 times in a row because that's all they had in their house, and are now taking their own kids to see it in hopes it can possibly re-create that feeling again.

And lets not even get into fucking international markets, who have absolutely zero taste in moves (cough cough cough china, india) which contributes even harder to movies being fucking shit

Neurotypicals like to pick up on microexpressions in live action acting whereas austistics don't care for microexpressions and can appreciate the art for what it is.

it just looks dystopian to me

How is this shit more popular than the Sonic live action films already?

So it lost money.

That would be better that the shit we got

Did the original film do bad? I heard it made a fuckzillion in merchandise. Plus I watched it in a packed theater back in the day.

Might be a gap in the empathy felt for the characters. That’s usually where the “if it’s a regular story, just use real actors” thing comes from when something’s not a comedy.

Normalfags love to eat mediocrity as long as they are made to feel comfortable.

Animation is just for kids

I've seen a bunch of retarded niggers who claim this movie is doing well because it's "not woke" (how?) and therefore worth paying. Current film discourse is fucked.

That would be an improvement, over Mabel railroading him because of "muh inability to grow up"

I'll always have Japanese Animated films but if you're some sort of retard who only wants western animation, yeah you are fucked.

it won't beat Ne Zha 2 though

They have to claim it's not woke because it's performing better than Mission: Impossible, and the narrative is that Disney's "woke" films fail while their "non-woke" films succeed.
It's why none of those channels covered Sinners, an explicitly black and message heavy movie that's breaking box office records.

this post is normiecore. stop pretending to be autistic you faggot

Yeah but those movies constantly shit on themselves for having a plot and shit on the audience for caring, so it's "mature"

You see this exact same routine play out with videogames too. Call an upcoming game woke, then continue to do so if it doesn't sell well, and change to calling it non-woke if it succeeds.
It's all so tiresome

Hollywood has lots of money and could afford do spectacles with real people that are also mature. Since the film market shifts towards real people, there’s less expectation for animation fufill the more adult aspects of sci fi, fantasy, or horror. That’s why live action has something comparable to Ghost in the shell and western animation doesn’t.

IMG_2527.png - 251x380, 187.34K

Whenever I watch an animated movie with a normal fag, particularly anything none Disney or try’s to have serious moments, I always get the feeling they feel embarrassed by watching it. Like no matter thr style of animation, it’s not “real” so it’s quality is lesser as well

gonna add because now i'm just thinking about this crapolo in general:

when you do finally see 2D, it's some random fuckass very specific, serious toned artsy film that makes an entire $3.50 because they already had no budget, spent zero on marketing, and it was already niche— so now that gets pointed at as proof that "people hate 2d now!" even though that was a them problem, and not a 2D problem. 3D and live actions fail all the time but no one gives up on them. If Disney did 2D they wouldn't have those same issues.

but then you realize the worst part— Disney no long has any writing talent of any kind. So even if they did finally make a 2D film, it would suck SO MUCH ASS, do poorly, and they'd use that as proof the audience "hates 2d", and proceed to promote the lead writer

Political grifters (right and left) are so fucking dumb

bro... If I don't label movie x or y, how else will I collect ad reven- I mean... I-inform my viewers!!??!

waiting for international numbers.

There is still hope...

Elio.jpg - 4050x6000, 2.62M

retard anons ignore how animation is little more than a crapshoot nowadays because animation and advertisement are more expensive than before while workers get laid off to cut out excess spending because companies have to give in to union demands for crap work

Blame The Animation Guild/T.A.G. For ruining animation.

Genndy Tartakovsky pretty much said that offers to direct live-action films after his boarding work on Iron Man 2 came with a "Do you want to graduate from animation now?" line.

this looks like absolute shit

Bean mouth slop

Rather watch animators get trapped in a burning building

This is like picking the retarded kid to play when you’re losing a football game

people aren't tired of endless demakes

they really did just hate the Snow White abomination

Plot already leaked. Big bad is being mind controlled by the red pyramid on his head once it's off they all become friends and he becomes an honorary ambassador of peace. It's like speedrunning Steven Universe.

Because animation is for babies and live action remakes means they can watch their favs without the embarrassment factor. Not that many people have kids they can drag to the movie theaters as an excuse for watching babyshit.

The "cartoons are for kids" stigma

When are they going to start making live action versions of the shitty movies?

kys birchy

They're too round and soft looking, I hate it

because you suck
