Both of them notoriously hated 1987 for years, why are you surprised?
1987bros...
I mean... If you didn't watch it religiously when you were like five years old, what reason could you possibly have for liking the first Ninja Turtles show? It's basically the same 80's/90's trash you had already seen a million times before that prioritised making enough episodes to get a syndication deal and cutting corners on the toy company's shoestring budget, even if that lead to hilariously bad animation and bad writing.
Admittedly the creators of the series were probably annoyed more with the lack of respect from the showrunners and the completely pointless lack of faithfulness in adapting their work for television, but quite frankly it's not even necessary to point out that it's a poor adaptation. The fact that anyone older than twelve and has a functioning brain can tell you that it is repetitive, poorly made, rushed out slop should tell that it probably wouldn't have been their prefered adaptation anyway.
N one cares about 80s TMNT except nostalgia blind mankids who refuse to live in the present. Just look at all the devs who refuse to use anything other than 80s TMNT only to fail.
I just like 2012’s choreography best
I would have loved a TMNT series more like Batman The Animated Series from the 80s-90s.
1987 is really only good for the first season. Both 2003 and 2012 are good for longer and frankly are just outright more interesting, it's just a fact. It's a shame that they both shit the bed in their own ways later on though.
I would have loved a TMNT series more like Batman The Animated Series from the 80s-90s.
That's what they tried to do with season 8-10
Live action movie mogs all of em.
Any word on their opinions of Archie?
Laird's favorite is 2003
Eastman's favorite is 2012
So, what would a composite universe look like? I'd imagine it'd go the IDW route to split the difference with Splinter and Shredder's backstory. I dunno, as long as Donnie's not a goddamn simp.
Keep in mind Fred-Wolf studios also sued them,
so I'm sure that puts a lot of bad blood between them. They almost lost the franchise and the settlement details are still not public.
Would Slash be Hun or Spike?
Yeah, I really can't blame Laird for being bitter
Unrelated, but I also can't blame him for being harsh with the 2003 writers, his notes for the scrips were really needed

Shut the fuck up, you low effort posting cunt.
I like 1987 in concept more than in execution, if that makes sense.
They loved Archie, so long as them or their comic friends were writing or drawing for it.
I love when people say that the 87 cartoon gave the Turtles personalities cause just looking at Raph proves that that's very much not true for at least one Turtle
personalities
Not personalities, just distinction. Moreso than just what kind of weapon they were using.
The Turtles were distinct in Mirage
I love 2003 turtles so much
I mean I grew up with it but still
The Usagi episodes of 2003 used Usagi (duh), Gen, Tomoe, Noriyuki, Chizu and Hebi
They never used the most evil character in UY
They didn't use Jei either
The one-shot series that came out in 85/86 established their personalities
David Wise was a world class bullshitter. He also claimed he came up with the yellow jumpsuit for April based off Fujiko in Lupin..which again, comes from this art from 1985. Peter chung just changed the color to yellow.
Have there ever been any Tortoise Mutants in the franchise?
non sequiter but i loved the miyamoto usagi episodes
dude was such a bro.
I think the moment that cemented that he was intentionally lying for me was his claim about how he came up with Krang.
It was this video interview in which the events as he recalled them went something like this:
Shredder needed robotic minions so the Turtles wouldn't be killing humans
The reason for this became an alien
Shredder needed a reason to work with an alien
The reason for this became that the alien needed a new body after being turned into just a brain
The new body was then going to be a robot
And then the interviewer just pointed out how that just described the Utroms, which already existed. Then just can just see the hasty way in which he tried to backpedal while still trying to claim most of the creative credit by saying only the position of the cockpit was inspired by the Utroms, and that he still came up with everything else on his own, including the alien brain thing.
I can't really find the interview but it really did confirm what a weasel he was. The occam's razor explanation is just that he saw the Utroms and just made an Utrom character. And had he claimed that, then his lying ass probably wouldn't have been nearly as scrutinised.
Kevin doesn't hate anything. Except the Bay movies.
I could forgive some of Wise's claims if it was just faulty memory..but he seemed to double down on things and have a chip on his shoulder about Eastman and Laird and the franchise in general.
I get that he didn't get much from the franchises success, and that sucks, but trying to make a stake in things you didn't create and then trying to claim it as truth isn't endearing. It's sad that his legacy is that of a liar.
You've sure got a shit take there. Keep it to yourself.
too late, he cant un-say it!
how is the current show
Not surprised Eastman has shit taste, considering.
2012 is awful and has literally zero redeeming qualities. All the worst aspects of 1987 and 2003 series rolled into one show.
IDW always come up with interesting ideas that turn out to be the worst. They can’t even stick with their ideas for long enough or make really big changes. Who the fuck care that they wasted 40+ issues and a miniseries writing Shredder's redemption arc? Now IDW is like "fuck it! Shredder is going to be evil again anyway" because IDW need this character to milking more money out of these fans instead of giving other villains like Stockman or Karai more chance to shine in the new story.
instead of giving... Karai more chance to shine
wtf I love IDW now.
Sued the creators of the property
Lolwut
Peter Laird
Turn 2003 Leo into a beta simp loser for Karai.
Living drawing April in Mirage v4 comic
First season is overrated. It's when they introduced those Neutrino faggots whom I hated even as a kid.
2012 is not even remotely better.
Leo is still a simp for Karai with Karai being an innocent dindu
April is some human-alien hybrid Jean Grey
I haven't read IDW and I don't really like what I've read about IDW Karai, but her design is by far my favorite Karai design
2003 series is grossly overrated because the turtles are presented as imitating Mirage but because its a stupid family friendly cartoon they're not allowed. The turtles failed to defeat every single villain in this series unless they reformed like Bishop. But the turtles were a bunch of wannabe edgy wusses. Could not stand this show. Either do edgy or don't, in that regard Batman Beyond was much better.
The worst arc in this whole show is the Angst Leonardo arc because the show frames Leonardo's anger at always losing against the villains as he being in the wrong. Fuck this show. Leo was right when he said "Our enemies are always two steps ahead of us! How many times do we need to LOSE before you idiots see this is not a game!" And fuck the whole Leonardo simps for Karai bullshit this series brought to the cartoons.
The only good Karai was from the Shredder's Revenge game where they leaned into her being a bit of a combat-geek who tries to act above it all but occasionally slips out of character.
Corporate America (Anywhere, really) is ruthless with regards to ownership. Think about your favorite creation or creator, now think about the amount of corporate parasites they had to fight off after selling the rights to a big corporation, or think about the big fights they had to take back ownership of those rights.
IDW Karai like all Karais is a Villain Mary Sue who always gets away with her crimes.
Any TMNT media that pretends that Karai is heroic is shit by default. I will forever curse Laird and Eastman for inventing this shitty Mary Sue. Would not have so much of a problem with Karai if the characters saw her exactly for what she is, a criminal pile of shit. It's the Harley bullshit "Oh wait she's a criminal vagina so she's innocent!" Fuck this simping feminist shit.
The worst arc in this whole show is the Angst Leonardo arc because the show frames Leonardo's anger at always losing against the villains as he being in the wrong. Fuck this show.
never thought id see someone say self-destructive ptsd is based, but okay
Yep. Never liked that character.
2003 may have been the worst because in addition to shitty personality she also had a very annoying screechy voice.
Don't forget other stupid ideas like Laird having Donatello mysteriously shrunk to the size of an action figure forcing Donatello to pilot a mech to pretend to be normal size. And then you have other stupid ideas like by him like Michelangelo having sex with that dinosaur bitch who sperm jacks him and Michelangelo is forbidden from getting revenge on that cunt, he left the story at an intentional cliffhanger because he's a lazy ass with no intention of finishing. The same way Donatello is never getting cured of being shrunken down. Laird is a hack.
There are good elements to the TMNT franchise but each of them were contributed and sprinkled by DIFFERENT writers. Laird and Eastman alone aren't worth a damn. You need every single good idea combined into the whole of the franchise so that its good.
Karai’s character is always forced to have a connection to either Shredder or Splinter. Mirage Karai is only one who doesn't has this problem. She is just another leader of foot clan, and she despise Oroku Saki.
Leonardo's anger makes sense. Unless you're a mascohist you are going to get tired of criminals always humiliating you. The turtlesn ever beat Chrell, they didn't beat Bishop, they didn't beat Stockman, they didn't beat not even an idiot like Hun. These are incompetent losers despite insisting on being edgy like Mirage.
Ah, Deletefag in rare form tonight I see.
I'd say there are decent episodes here and there after season 1 but they're drowned in a sea of shit.
Anything with Casey Jones in the original show is golden and I will die on that hill.
But she's still a piece of shit. The Foot Clan in Mirage still engages into shady illegal activities like killing people. They are still very much criminals. Karai in Mirage being a more organized and tamer criminal doesn't stop her from still being one.
And another thing, fuck the whole idea of Mirage about how the turtles were the ones who used time travel to inspire the creation of the Foot Clan that is garbage.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987 TV series): 10 seasons 193 episodes.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003 TV series): 7 seasons 155 episodes.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012 TV series): 5 seasons 124 episodes.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018 TV series): 2 seasons 39 episodes.
2012 is not even remotely better.
>Leo is still a simp for Karai with Karai being an innocent dindu
2012 Karai is honestly the shittiest Karai. She spat on the grave of her blood mother and blood father for the sake of continuing to work for a criminal syndicate like the Foot Clan who were the ones who KILLED her family in the first place. The whole Karai is loyal to the criminals who left her an orphan angle is putrid shit. And the shitty writers of course are so stupid they didn't notice they made Karai so shitty.
The fact that Splinter didn't tell Karai before he died "You want to stay with the bastards who killed my wife aka your mother! I forbid that!" will always piss me off.
it's good. the teenage aspect of it is real authentic
what, do they jerk off five times a week?
I like all of them!
