I think this guy was from Saudi Arabia and did a house exchange thing with Hank and Peggy. Hank was sort of the glue that held everyone together, whether he realized it or not, so his friends ended up going their own way when he was gone. I'm not sure why Bobby is back in Arlen, since it sounds like he has a successful career and lives in Dallas.
Maybe the Hills will contact this guy and ask him what happened while they were away.

It's being used mainly as the reason why Hank comes back to a world completely different than he expects, because those aramco towns are very much idyllic white picket fence type towns that you would see in like leave it to Beaver
