Why haven't they produced any hits as of late? Sure invincible is popular and all but no one is hyped about any of their latest titles.
Why haven't they produced any hits as of late...
Be quiet they're working on a new Spawn movie.
Not counting Kirkman books, the last hit they had was DWJ's Transformers.
its creator owned. you bring an idea with a business plan to Image. They green light it. Its on you not them. where are all the talented creators?
They aren't willing to take the risk on creating a real series, financially. That's why its all miniseries "to see if it takes off". The reality is that DC or Marvel could kill Image in a second if they offered a good deal for rights creation and retention and a pipeline into movies/tv/games/etc. There is no point waxing lyrical about muh creator owned rights if it doesn't get you anywhere. Both Invincible and TWD sold decent enough in their days before adaptations but you need to have the confidence to carry on in the first place
Depends on what level of success you're asking for
The Department of Truth and Ghost Machine are the closest book they got to doing Saga numbers outside of the Hasbro stuff Skybound does now
all miniseries
That's entirely on the creative team
People are hesitant to do ongoings because they actually want the chance to finish their story
Also
Invincible
Sold decent
It was nowhere near the best seller people make it out to be
It sold a modest amount to keep going a month but it wasn't the juggernaut The Walking Dead was even before both had adaptations
There's nothing of note, but Saga wasn't particularly great either.
Problem is there's no pipeline for comics to get even artificial hype anymore. The major websites are running on fumes, there's no Wizard or anything to tell less picky readers what to read.
All major comic talk these days revolves around grifting and getting you to watch EVS smoke crack(not sell comics, because making comics is hard work)
Nights got an animated adaption announced
The major websites are running on fumes,
LOCG's been seeing increased use and popularity in recent years
That's entirely on the creative team
Yeah because they have to cover distribution costs.
skybound
Technically a Kirkman book lol
Are you implying image should pick up those costs without recouping anything?
hi
You mean like a normal publisher does?
I've seen one guy who edits an Image book say it's basically high risk/high reward and as a system, it's more beneficial for creators who already have a pre-established following
The fact that the Ghost machine stuff is getting no real attention shows how dead comics are.
It's a murderer's row of the best 2000's DC guys and NO ONE cares.
Image has been carried by Kirkman so hard for over a decade. First TWD and all its adaptations boosting comic sales and now Invincible is doing the same thing. Still it's a distant third publisher.
the best 2000's DC guys
Nope.
getting no real attention
Anon Babble shouldn't be used as any metric of attention
Invincible didn't boost the sales/attention for comics as a whole
Otherwise we'd see people get into characters solely for having a cameo in Invincible War
Because it's mediocre crap.
It's not all of the best, but who would you say is missing? Morrison is who knows where, Jim Lee is an exec so he's not leaving, JH Williams III is doing a comic no one cares about, but who else then?
I can't see it getting much attention anywhere.
In their defense, neither has DC or Marvel...Or any American comic book company for that matter. It's no wonder the genre is dying.
Ultimate Spider-Man?
Invincible didn't boost the sales/attention for comics as a whole
So? TWD was the same thing. The comics were the best selling for Image when the live action show first came out. Same thing happened with the Invincible show boosting sales for the trades. We've seen single series carrying entire publishers. Same thing happened not that long ago with IDW and Last Ronin being a sales juggernaut for them.
Don't reply to the literal shitposter.
We've seen single series carrying entire publishers.
That's not how Image works
It's technically multiple publishers under one umbrella
Image Central doesn't do things the same way Skybound does
I'm not counting rehashes like Batman: White Knight and The Last Ronin. Same thing with the Absolute Universe. Sure, it helps the industry but this kind of cannibalism ain't healthy in the long term.
At least Eric July is doing all original stuff.
Eric July is doing all original stuff.
its mediocre & boring though
Image is still getting a cut from everything it sells. It's not slapping its name on comics for fun.
Same thing is said about DC & Marvel ad Infinium. And not without good reason. Either they rehash something old (Hush 2) or they make semi-new things that flop (Sandman Universe Hellblazer).
Morrison (DC, Vertigo), Moore (ABC), Cooke (DC), Casey (DC, WS)
I acknowledged Morrison, Moore would hex you for considering his 2000's work to be DC considering the loops he jumped to avoid being officially paid by DC, Cooke is currently decomposing and not working for anyone, Casey is a good choice but his name doesn't really sell comics.
Is fucking garbage.
Normal publishers pay page rates and either own the IP or acquire it.
Are you retarded? Creator owned means assuming financial risk.
murderers row
Nah that was dark horse in the early 90s. And look how that went.
This is more like the baby bomber Yankees of the middle twenty-tens lol
some anons made storytimes of that.
A lot of Image comics exist as IP Pitches, jumping points for tv and film adaptations. People who actually want to make comics go elsewhere now.
I really didn't know that. I was just thinking of writers.
Saga animated series when?
Never, the creator wants Saga to only be a comic book.
