Watching the My adventures with Superman series, it made me wonder something...

Does Superman have fans in Japan? Even if it's a small group. I mean, I know that there are currently DC comics that are translated into Japanese and distributed there, but do you think that before there were Japanese fans who translated the comics in some a forum or blog to be able to read them?

All Might suggests that he has some fans over there.

of course there are

There's a niche following for cape comics in Japan, especially amongst illustrators and such. Stan Lee had a short stint trying to get some cape related projects going like Heroman and Ultimo.

Japan just vastly prefers their own stuff, so the references to cape comics are more sparse.

Historically yes, though the peak seems to have been the 50'sand his popularity is more in a pop culture context than the month-to-month comics.
The 50's TV show in Japan made a huge splash there and is the reason "super" got affixed to so many things at the time and their own superhero boom. The comic was a bit of an influence on some creators, like GeGeGe No Kitaro creator Shigeru Mizuki, who's early work was a straight up Superman clone named Rocketman.
There was a doujin circle that was into DC comics in the 2000's I own some doujins of,they translated comics and made gag comics based off specific issues, but it was mainly batfamily stuff and Titans/YJ. That died off around New 52.

No

Nah, he's more or less an American phenomenon. Ask anyone abroad to identify him, the suit, the big red S etc and they'd likely have no idea what you're talking about.

he didn't read the thread before responding

lol

he also didn't read the thread before responding and made up shit

lol

No

This

Shut up lying faggot

but it was mainly batfamily stuff and Titans/YJ.

that's an age thing, you see it even in fan fiction, it's all fucking batfam and even when they don't do superbat, they shove barry and hal, or diana or shove all of them in but all in the context of gotham and batwank
that said, they did do tankos of the JL plus Superman vs. Meshi recently. And MAWS was popular enough that they did fake porn knock-off figurines.

Supercuck

Japan probably has good taste, so it doesn't like capeshit.

why do you care what japan thinks

that's an age thing,

The Japanese lady who made the batfam doujins I bought is like 50 now, and was in her 20's/30's at her peak

japan

not liking capeshit

You don’t know nothing tranny

"Japan" and "good taste" are two words that cannot belong in the same sentence if the words "doesn't have" aren't in between.

They have at least 2

Very few of them really and I don't blame them since they have their own stuff.

changing your phone IP to "this" your own post

lol

The U.S. has loads of influence on other countries when it comes to the media it produces, so I'm sure Superman has at least somewhat of a following over in Japan. MAWS likely added to that already existing audience

omewhat of a following over in Japan

A very small one. Japanese barely buy any western comics. Even less than westerners themselves and you see how little they buy them nowadays.

America has almost zero influence on other countries anymore. It's not the 1980's.

Suppaman Meshi!

He's no Spider-Man but he has his fans in japan

The U.S. has loads of influence on other countries when it comes to the media it produces

Lol, someone's still stuck in 1986.

Like 90% of Japanese interested in western capeshit specifically follow the MCU (and the actors). I have occasionally spoken to a few hardcore enthusiasts who know characters like Crimson Avenger but those are quite rare obviously. And to be honest who can blame them, their superhero industry is arguably more lively than America's at this point.

MAWS likely added to that already existing audience

Unlikely. MAWS doesn't have the viewership or cultural relevancy that a lot of other Superman media had so the impact is probably negligible.

Japan has almost zero influence on other countries anymore. It's not the 1990's.

Tatsuo Yoshida did his own Superman manga in the 1960s, and there were cases of other questionable unlicensed adaptations and those inspired by him.

Nekomiso?

So, what was it about the show that made you wonder if Supes has fans in Japan?
The show comes off as written by a woman for tumblr/twitter. Clark is such a pussy in this slop.

Why would you need a different IP to (you) your own post?

The autor of Total M.U.S.C.L.E. was a fan of Superman.

Anon Babblecksuckers mad

MAWS doesn't have the viewership

seems good enough that they're doing both a season 3 and a spin-off.

Honduran here, we know who Superman, who the fuck doesn't know Superman?
