The real reason kids swapped to watching Youtube slop over cartoons has more to do with how lame and gay cartoons are now than anything else. Think about it, imagine if all you had was shitty CalArts cartoons aimed at girls and fags growing up in the 90's. None of us would have touched that shit and wrestling would be even bigger than it already was as a result. No wonder retarded toilet mechs became popular, boys have nothing else cool to watch.
The real reason kids swapped to watching Youtube slop over cartoons has more to do with how lame and gay cartoons...
Boys watch cartoons still.
We're already talking about that in here
Tapping the sign.
There's also the problem of parents not being pearl clutchers anymore, so the second kids age out of Paw Patrol they're moving on to Family Guy and South Park. It's hard to compete with that.
You're to blame. You're the whiny fagget that let it happen instead of fighting back.
Tapping the sign.
only females are allowed in the female toilets, not men with long hair?
capping your own post
Let it happen
Negro what was I supposed to do? I didn’t get asked to be a Nielsen household and everyone called me a nostalgiafag for saying anything. I’ve been on this since ‘08.
its a reddit thing anon, you wouldnt understand.
Hey kids why watch retarded kid + John DiMaggio when you could watch retarded manchild + John DiMaggio?
Not really an issue when cartoons are good. I watched Family Guy, Simpsons, and kids cartoons growing up.
404: argument not found
oh you made a le ebin reference, you cant be a twiiter tourist or reddit fag!
Old shit still exist and kids don't even want that garbage.
If I say reddit enough maybe it’ll go away
yeah, i am hoping you and your type will eventually fuck off and go away. no luck yet.
That's not true. They watch all kind of old stuff like Naruto, Dragon Ball, Death Note
Your type
The core enthusiast demographic? Good luck.
you reddit joke about 404 is "The core enthusiast demographic"
have you read your own comments, you absolute specimen.
Still refusing to engage with the post lol all you have is character attacks on an anonymous imageboard.
Get a room
making stuff up doesnt mean its true anon, cmon man.
Wat
So basically Darwyn Cooke was right? Stop trying to write for adults, start trying to entertain kids?
As a rule of thumb, if you write about stuff that a kid would think is sick, it’ll probably be sick. You can tailor the reading level after that to taste.
Less realistic panic attacks, learning about healthy boundaries in the friend zone, and whatever culture war point is bothering you today, and more samurais fighting dinosaurs.
This is true. I just saw a few TikToks today of people complaining about wanting to watch cartoons but thinking all the artstyles were "ugly." It doesn't help that the premises aren't all they're cracked up to be, either. Even people working in the industry seem to be frustrated with what they have to work on.
This is really the crux of the issue, desu. Part of the problem is we need more defined age demographics like with Anime so you can have the shows that are more middle-grade/aimed at a Junior High to High School audience that does that kind of stuff if you really want and then also have stuff that's aimed at just drawing in kids because it's cool. From there you can just put in the work to try to make it well-written enough that it can appeal to periphery demographics.
Otherwise you're stuck with what we've got now which is: Preschool shows, shows for "kids" that are made with the adult Tumblr audience in mind, and "adult" cartoons that are just Family Guy/Rick and Morty knock offs.
Yep. The issue is everyone is dead set on making things mature because more adult = more better but I don’t think so. We have a huge gap where the 12-15 year old stuff should go and that’s really what carries anime. Cool shit that doesn’t need to be anything more than enjoyable. I *can* like more mature content as well but this adult tumblr/family guy death spiral is the worst. Most of the time it’s best to be cool first and then if you can elevate it a bit even better.
The person who wrote this has never read a real book.
As I said in the other thread:
Cartoons are full of stupid faggot nonsense and barely anything happens in it. Kids want action and you get far more of that from videogames and mindless action scene clips on youtube.
Cartoons were better when they were created by people who kept in touch with their based kid self
They were better when they weren't made by sad, childless, middle-aged people.
Horribly worded, but not wrong.
If you want to read books go ahead and do that. If you want to write novels go ahead and do that. Your banal calart loretoon isn’t literature, let’s be real.
Young 20-something guys made good cartoons too but sure I can see how having actual experience with kids could help.
Cartoons have had political messaging in them damn near since their creation. Not that I like that but it's incorrect to think there was a time where cartoons never had messaging in them
Be more specific, depending on what you mean that can suck too. This isn’t a purely modern or even leftist phenomenon, merely more prevalent now than, say, the 90s.
No they don't.
Maybe downstream of the fact that 9-14 year olds are basically an ignored demographic at this point. Nobody cares about their psychological development other than trying to convince them that they are definitely trans and born in the wrong body.
What's more, we've lost our sense of "metaphor" in media. It's possible to have a more adult message, since preteens don't like being talked down to. At that age I loved watching edgy stuff and things I "wasn't supposed to watch". But at the same time you miss out on the type of stories where there are, instead of these endless conversations and hand-wringing about real-life topics, instead metaphors and allegories for serious or political/culture war topics like rape, pregnancy, abortion, war, genocide, etc. Sci-fi can go into these via metaphors based on robots, cyborgs, the nature of humanity, Star Trek type things. It helps get the points across in a way that an older kid or preteen could understand without mentally scarring them badly. Think The Twilight Zone. We all read Ender's Game and shit in school, so we know. Star Wars did it. Samurai Jack did it. Full Metal Alchemist did it. And countless more great series and films throughout the 90s and 00s. I think more young people would be able to handle these topics and consider them in a thoughtful way if they were presented in media with a bit more thought and less overt violence/sexuality, and at the same time I definitely don't agree with censorship. (1/2)
We used to as an audience be able to understand these messages at a higher level. It was actually closer to arthouse/auteur film where the metaphor is the point. Using dark or disturbing imagery is scary enough, you don't need to have a plot centered entirely on racism and explaining -isms in therapy speak as one character lectures another on the use of proper pronouns. Now what I would personally like to see is a series aimed at 13-16 year olds as a metaphor/conversation on the hypocrisy of gender transition and why being yourself isn't always as simplified as the adults in your life might make it appear. They clearly have their own problems/issues from their past, and the time that they grew up in. And that those things shouldn't affect the youth and we need to communicate that to younger people so that they can critically think and come to their own conclusions about how they want to interact with culture, because that's what art is for. It's not to prescribe a certain view, it's hopefully to inoculate against groupthink. But at core I think media should just either be free of these messages and keep it simple for the preschool set (i.e. share, make new friends, learn to solve simple problems), or if you're going to get into the weeds, actually show, don't tell, in a tasteful, artistic manner while making use of metaphor in an interesting or creative way, as creators did in the past when getting around the censors to share a specific vision. It's not hard if you are actually creative.
Go to Anon Babble if you want to bitch about how Conan and Lord of The Rings will never ever be mature art no matter how hard it's shilled as classic literature.
That's barely 33% of the problem, let's be honest , did you faggots really change the TV channel to something else when those shitty UPA cartoons started airing on your TV? Only when you already saw the cartoon or had nothing else on. You stayed through it and watched it when it was new. Personally I watched HBO like a cool kid, but I had options. I always watched FoxKids on reruns over CN, CN was the garbage trashy channel for me. I had a very diverse amount of cartoons to watch from and even the toddler channel called Minimax which fucking aired goddamn anime to a bunch of toddler after 7PM or 10PM , never ever treated its audience as mentally retarded, there was never Teletubbies on that channel instead you had Tales from the Crypt and even some live action horror shows for children.
Back then you didn't have options for what you got on TV; what you saw is what you got.
Nowadays with access to the internet you have access to so much content that TV has becom obsolete
Radio -> TV -> The internet
The jews are trying and failing at deleting internet archives en masse.
They also kicked themselves in the nuts by destroying CN, Nick, Disney channels' lineup in an attempt to sell shittier shows to their audience.
They deleted Foxkids & Jetix. They tried subscription channels such as The Hub and
Discovery Family and other channels and especially paid streaming channels like AppleTV are kicking their own shows in the ass because nobody is subscribed to AppleTV to watch some silly kids' show such as fucking Harriet The Spy.
Except those middle-aged adults are just boring people in general who nobody hangs out with other than equally minded sheeple like themselves.
The shit they're making nowadays is made by californian nepobabies who never read a book in their lives and talk like entitled richkids who their parents never told them to shut the fuck up and get a real education.
Excuses excuses
You're right. My nephew is 6, the only show he watches that is shown on TV is Smiling Friends. Everything else is YouTube.
Ironically cooke( and all the DCAU guys) hated the Marvel shows which were more successful with kids
who never read a book in their lives
Only books i "finished" were Percy Jackson. Anything else, I doze off after a couple of paragraphs.
Mao Mao once again literally being the perfect cartoon for cartoon network because it had adventure, swords, fighting, villains that didn't give a shit and heros that were technically flawed. All the things necessary to draw in the boy audience but they canceled it before it could thrive because they wanted to make room for more We Baby Bears
The message never came first, the story and characters did. That's the difference.
There has to be a reason why the big great shows everyone remembers from the 80s typically consisted of cars that transform into tanks and airplanes, or robots, superpowered fantasy creatures with magic swords that fight monsters, cyborgs in space that fight aliens in spaceships etc. Or talking horses, magic princesses that ride on talking horses, magic princesses that defend kingdoms, magical princesses that defend colors, etc. They know goddamn well what kids liked 40 years ago.
YouTube slop and ipads are also designed to be more addictive but you still have a point.
No, kids are retarded and dooming society.
I wish we'd stop breeding. NOFX was right.
